It Looks Like The Queen Just Trolled The UK Prime-Minister About Brexit In The Most Brilliant Way
When The Queen of England delivers her yearly speech, she usually does so while dressed in a plethora of typically royal regalia. Jewels. Furry robes. And, of course, a crown.
But this year Queen Elizabeth II raised eyebrows by ditching the traditional regal attire and opting instead for a simpler outfit. But it wasn’t so much the style of the outfit as the colors she chose to wear, because as you can see from the pictures below, which were recently uploaded by somebody named WelshArtist, the blue fabric and yellow flowers on her hat bear more than a striking resemblance to the colors of the EU flag. The fact that her speech focused heavily on Brexit only added to the rumors. Was The Queen sending a secret message about her thoughts on leaving the EU? Was she subtly trying to troll UK Prime Minister Theresa May? Or did she simply like the colors and decide to wear them because she’s the Queen of England and can do whatever she damn well pleases? Nobody knows for sure. What do you think?

Is it just us or does the queen’s hat look like the EU flag?

Actually, no. It had already been decided to be a dress-down when the election was called. The real reason was that because it was a snap election, it hadn't been put in the diary. The normal procession and occasion takes a huge amount of rehearsal, and it was too close to the trooping of the colours. It simply wasn't possible to schedule it in. A similar thing happened in 1974 at the snap election then.

Everyone stop being so, "matter of fact", on the matter! Whether she was making a statement or not it is fun to imagine she might have been. I personally think it is a mix of the two reasons: first yes it was for all of the logistical reasons below, and second maybe the colors were for a statement. Everything I have ever read on the queen is that she is VERY meticulous in EVERYTHING she does!
Or it could just be because she was hurrying off to Royal Ascot immediately afterwards and this was the outfit she wanted to wear at the races. According to BBC News, all the usual pomp and circumstance - not just the Queen's outfit - was curtailed this year because the snap election screwed with the rehearsals.
But she changed for Ascot, which adds a little to the theory that what she wore for Parliament was chosen just for Parliament.
Load More Replies...It was announced well in advance that this year Queen's speech was going to be a "dress down " affair due to several reasons (snap elections, logistics, etc.) so all the rest is a muted point. Now, the choice of outfit could certainly had been a very clever and coincidental statement! Hats off, ma'am God bless you!
The main reason she didn't wear ceremonial garb was simply because it was postponed from it's official date and they had to fit it into her existing schedule. the choice of outfit however does look like two fingers up to May
Apparently that crown is very heavy and she's an old lady now, so I suspect that had more to do with her changing to more comfortable clothes. Though from what I read of her I wouldn't put it passed her to pick the colors for a reason.
No. You underestimate her. People have been doing that all her life.
Load More Replies...The Queen does not give an "annual speech" (aside from her Christmas Day Address). This was a "Speech from the Throne". It is written by whichever party wins a national election, as the Tories did recently, and forms the government. None of the promises are hers. They are made by the ruling party (and have no legal effect). In Commonwealth countries such as Canada and Australia, Throne Speeches are delivered by the Queen's representative, known as the Governor-General. Again, those speeches are written by the governing party, and have no legal force or effect.
Let's be honest...she basically is. Anywhere outside England she's just another celebrity.

Oh please. No one is allowed to do anything nowadays without it having some "secret meaning" behind it. This is getting ridiculous.
It's different when it's the queen or other powerful political figures.
Load More Replies...This article lost credibility when the photos depicting the queen making her speech in the years 2014, 2015, and 2016 while she seems to have the same dress on. She clearly is wearing the same shoes in the 2014 and 2015 photos. Her dressers would certainly not allow that to happen.
The "dress" the queen wears is part of the ceremonial robes made and kept solely for the annual state opening of parliament. So long as she can fit into it and it remains undamaged the queen will continue to wear the "same dress" for the opening several years running. As to her shoes, to begin with, all of the queen's shoes are made by the same designer and their style is very similar and tailored for comfort and easy walking. It is not inconceivable that she would have more than one pair of shoes made in the same style and colour. Aside from that, the queen wears most of her outfits, including shoes, more than once. I am puzzled as to why so many people are suggesting that the colours of the queen's outfit are some kind of negative message to Theresa May about Brexit. May is a Conservative and it was always the Conservative party who wanted to remain in the EU, so it would be pointless for the queen to wear EU colours to annoy a woman who would prefer that we did not leave.

No, This is the Queen's Speech. It is one of her main primary functions and one of very few that require her, by protocol long established to wear the full garb of Majesty. She would never put self above duty. I believe she saw it as her duty to register her protest on this occasion

In simple terms, these events need much rehearsing in order to run smoothly and the multitude of events happening in close proximity of each other made rehearsals too difficult ...!
she didn't wear the robes or travel in the horse drawn state coach because there was a last minute decision to put back the opening by two days from Monday to Wednesday. She already had other engagements scheduled on Wednesday and therefore dashed from parliament to host lunch for guests staying at Windsor Castle, then arrive at Royal Ascot in time for the first race on day two of the meeting at 2.30 pm. She didn't change clothes and travelled by car to both events (she would normally also arrive at Ascot by coach) to save time.
Utterly ABSURD. Why on earth would the Queen -- who enjoys personal sovereignty as the monarch -- want to be part of the EU, where her sovereignty would be curtailed? Anyone who thinks that there's any subtext to what she wore, understands NOTHING about the situation with the British Royal Family and the EU. They are antithetical to each other.
Absolutely on purpose there. Very British, very subtle, very non-pervasive, very political. She may not have a say in these things, but her opinion carries heaps of weight. She just made that opinion loud and clear.
She may just have finally reached an age where all the trappings of her royal clothing and crown are too heavy for her to move around in comfortably. Could be those bead encrusted gowns, 10' long fur capes and that enormous jeweled crown just weigh far too much for a 91 year old to haul around.
I think it was more traditional when she wore the crown and all. But it's her speech and she should wear what she wants. I have a great deal of respect for the Queen. A few years ago I heard her Christmas message and she actually said Christmas. That same year our president wouldn't even say it and had a "holiday message."
Queen elizabeth is so Awesome!!!! i want her as an extra grandma
Heck, maybe she just got tired of wearing cream and a damn heavy crown.
That was subtle by the queen. moreover there was a heatwave across UK...with all the accessories and the heavy crown with the kohinoor diamond on top would have been quite difficult for the 91 year old!
I) it was a very hot day ... too hot for ermine, and heavy robes and for a 91 year old lady. 2 the Queen's Speech had been scheduled for another date but had been changed and the new date fell on Royal Ascot week . So understandably I reckon having a more simple outfit made it easier for a 91 year old lady to cope with the heat plus allow her to get over to attend Royal Ascot in time. Royal Ascot is one of the few days she has off from attending public events each year.
I do not buy it. The Queen's Speech is more important than any of those other things and is totally dripping with official and solemn protocol long established. She can be pissed off about the EU, or it being hot, or missing Ascot, but she doesnt allow herself to put self before such a solemn duty. This was a protest, there is no doubt. Blue. with what looks like a circle of yellow stars and the brooch echoing the hat.. Its a compromise, not a coincidence

IDIOTIC. Why would the Queen -- who has personal sovereignty (to a degree) -- want to promote relinquishing some of that to be part of the EU? It would do her no good at all; indeed, it might impair her successor's chances of enjoying the same sovereignty that she enjoyed.
I'm not sure. I just know I didn't like seeing Camilla up there in one of the photos.
The dress would have been a pure coincidence. The UK monarch is not allowed to make any political statements, subtle or otherwise, about current government business - that is how the system works and the current monarch sticks to it to the letter. Really, this was a slip, probably made by those in charge of her wardrobe, that she may well be regretting. Elizabeth 2 prides herself on keeping her real opinions to herself and this would be completely out of character.
The last Queen of England was Anne, 8 March 1702 – 1 May 1707, who was subsequently Queen of Great Britain, 1 May 1707 – 1 August 1714. The two are different legal entities. The Kingdom of Great Britain became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, again a new legal entity, on 1 January 1801 and that remains, albeit with the name changed 12 April 1927 to the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Oh, and I liked the hat.
Definitely HM expressing her displeasure. I think we know enough about the lady to know she wouldn't shirk her duty in wearing the required regalia of majesty to endorse her governments actions if she approved them. She refuses to display frailty of any kind in public, this IS a big deal and anyone who is shrugging it off as nothing has no understanding of protocol. All factors taken together I would say HM hates this government more than any other of her reign
Actually nothing of the sort. The opening was put back by two days at the last minute. The Queen was already scheduled to attend the Royal Ascot race meeting that afternoon. She therefore dressed in her Ascot outfit and travelled by car instead of state horse drawn coach. This enabled her to do the opening in the morning, have lunch with visitors at Windsor Castle and arrive in time for the first race at Ascot at 2.30pm.

Why have you called her the "Queen of England" ? That is an erroneous title usually used by USAmerucans. There hasn't been a 'Queen of England's since 1603.
Great, you immediately offended 15% of the UK population with your first sentence. There is no such thing at the Queen of England. An obsolete title for the last 300 years. If anything she is Queen of Scots as that country took over England.
Well, now I MUST comment! AND, Im QUITE sure my comment will be hidden by the way things are OBVIOUSLY run on this site! After ALL of the terrorists activities that have been carried out in England of late, I can scarcely believe that ANYONE would be pro-Brexit! These attacks ILLUSTRATE the NEED for border protection at this time in history! I believe the queens statement, if that IS indeed what she is making, shows how out of touch she is! She has lived her ENTIRE life in a protected bubble! No harm can come to HER! The good people of England however, that must live out in public amongst these terrorists are in fear for their and their childrens very lives! Unfortunately, you CANNOT look at a person and tell if they are a terrorist! As such, it is IMPERATIVE that ALL countries be able to vet incoming immigrants VERY carefully! AT LEAST until we can get this situation under more control!
For the record, the terrorist attacks in Britain has nothing to do with immigrants and were all perpetrated by born and bred British citizens. Even were that not the case, Britain and the USA have both had an extensive, stringent and long drawn out immigration vetting process in place for several yeas now. It utilises the combined intelligence resources of several countries world wide and checks every aspect of an applicant's family, history, travel, criminal record, family and possible terrorist connections. In Britain there is a double safety check in that immigrants are first vetted at the outer border of the EU, which, just as it always has been, is firmly closed to the people of any third country. It is only the inner borders between the EU member states that are open. Then, when the migrants arrive in Britain they are vetted a second time by UK authorities before being given leave to stay, IF they are allowed to stay.
