We should at least agree on nobody being fair game at all, for a start with firm and proven principles that weren't developed elsewhere, maybe for a reason. They are right, which, generally, is not a matter of place or time of their conception, but if they originate here, that's a reason for conditional patriotism on the level the origination has taken place - likely, western europe, the entire west, whatever -. As cultures, generally, aren't national anymore, to Europeans, this should spark or reinforce the idea of integration beyond nations, and the desire to do it better. For a start - by insisting on principles that have been developed for being reasonable and deserved, and have been fought for. Islam, or rather a variety of its many sorts, does play a role in suppression, regardless of it being meant to, or having been meant to originally, or not. It isn't exactly a force of progressive ideas, to put it very gently and rid of a need to debate further. Or do we? Anyway, as supernatural belief in and of itself is not a source of any sort of reliable knowledge or advise that could prove being right, useful or both in any way, there is not a trace of reason to accept ANY religious demands that brake any sort of personal autonomy, cause any harm, prevent any knowledge or acces thereto. Whereas I as a European woman would like to point out that freedom of religion is a value and a right that people fought for, and it includes the positive freedom to live according to one´s religion in public. Further, it´s striking how men have this tendency to discover the women´s rights activist in themselves when it means they can tell women what to wear and especially, what NOT to wear, and when they get to blame "evil foreigners" for crimes and injustice against women. Islam is not the problem. Sexism is the problem.

Mari, a person can’t “choose themselves “ to do something if they have been brainwashed since childhood that they should do it. Especially if there are so many negative consequences on one side of the choice. This is not choice. It is bending to coercion because they have no better options.
