My name is Rich McLean and this is the first time I have shared a bit about myself and my art on Bored Panda.

I am a gay artist who is also an illustrator, author, advocate, and also in my third year of my PhD doctoral Studies at Victoria University, Melbourne. I have also been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Recovery from schizophrenia, or as I prefer to call it, ‘a psycho spiritual (sexual in my case), crisis’, it is likely and possible.

In indigenous cultures around the world a mentally ill person was seen as a gift to the community, the birth of a healer – and I hope you enjoy my art in the same light.

I also wrote an autobiography on my experiences of having experienced and recovering from ‘schizophrenia’, titled: ‘Recovered, Not Cured, a journey through schizophrenia’, and it is available at

If you would like to know more about me, please head to my website where you can also purchase my art as greeting cards, prints, framed prints and more!

You would be helping a marginalised student gain some prosperity in order to finish his PhD!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you find a card or print you love from my RedBubble store, love and share my work!

Blessings, Rich
