Doing anything and putting your self on the news or social media. Any time you saw people asking for donations to fill a trailer to bring to a natural disaster thats affecting a town; forest fires or floods. A bunch of idiots trying to look good but have no skills in what needs to be done. RED CROSS and Military Reserves in Canada do that just fine with out glory seekers. I know this because I work with people who Volunteer with Red Cross. If you do something for someone else you do it so most the time that person doesnt even know their life is better because of it. Like magical Elves helped them, you arent doing it for Glory; youre doing it because its the right thing to do

Pranks can be funny but most of them aren't. If the joke amounts to "It's funny because they're really mad" then that's not funny. That's just being an a-hole, a boring a-hole. Most of the pranks posted on social media are basically just this. Licking containers of ice cream: just being an a-hole. I don't get why anyone would make a video of that, or watch it. Even if you don't care about the people who are being targeted, it's boring.

You are a football fan. My dad isn't particularly affiliated with a single team (although he will cheer for the local teams ahead of the opposition because they're the ones he's likely to actually go and see - given the different leagues, that gives him a choice of at least 3). My hubby supports all the Home Country teams in the Euros and World Cup (so yes, he was cheering Wales, and Scotland - at least until Scotland play England). They are football fans - they just enjoy the game.

When talking to people about gatekeeping, most established fans don't do this. But there are a lot of people who go into a long established fandom and going "I don't like [fundamental thing that is in the canon] so if you don't follow [headcanon that goes against canon and character] then you're not a real fan." which is a massive gatekeeping issue.

If you do something nice for someone then it should be done from the heart and you want to do it. Not to claim fame and glory! Besides, It give's a great sense of wellbeing knowing that you helped someone. That is rewarding in it self.

Doing this simply illustrates the insincerity of the action. Why do you ONLY do/say nice things **when you have witnesses**? It makes everything look like this: You don't care about the other person. You're not being generous or mature. This is all about you 'looking good'. It's like empty apologies - that are only made when you have a whole load of witnesses to SEE it. You don't actually feel remorse, you're just trying to 'look good' for others. What's worse is that now you think that's a ticket/all-access pass to continue being a jerk in every other way.

Break up with them. You should be with someone who respects your opinions and what you say, and doesn’t put you down. It’s going to be okay, but you need someone to talk to and that someone clearly isn’t your current partner. I hope you’re okay.

Exactly! A good prank is the one that leaves everyone laughing. At worst, the victim should be mildly embarrassed. Example: I decided to prank my Mum at Christmas, so I prepared a prank gift (a really tacky stuffed cane toad I was sure she'd hate) and also bought and wrapped a real gift. The plan was that she would unwrap the toad and say "it's awful! :( " and then I would say "Psych!" and give her the real gift. On Christmas day she unwrapped the toad and said "It's awful! ...I LOVE IT!" She got double gifts from me that year, we all had a good laugh, and the toad is still on display in her loungeroom.

Also the line between freedom of speech and bullying. Some people on social networks believe it's the same, and them saying things like the LGBT community makes them want to puke think it's freedom of speech. No it's not, that is insulting.

Another reminder that a large percentage of call-outs fall into this category, too. It's turned into a massive performance with the assumption that you can't possibly be wrong, not to mention the fact that the whole "call out" thing is wildly ineffective in manifesting any real change anyway.

    Dynein

Reminder that "I didn't think it could hurt you" and "I thought it would not hurt you" are NOT quite the same. It's the difference between "not intending harm" and "intending no harm". The former doesn't mean that you are safe and trustworthy - there's tons of harm you can cause by just being thoughtless. E.g. well-meaning kids can do a lot of damage! People who truly care try to AVOID causing harm by refraining from actions where hurt is predictable. The assessment might not always be correct ("I thought it wouldn't hurt you"), but they'll TRY. If you can't be bothered to do that, you don't care nearly as much about people as you think you do.

Someone I know did something similar. A person was yakking on their phone on the bus, discussing a doctor's appointment and medical issues in a loud voice. My friend finally leaned forward, resting her folded arms on the seat, to listen with interest. "Do you mind?!" the lady yakking snapped. "This is a private conversation!" The second it's revealed that, hey, like literally every single human being in the world, she's done questionable, hurtful, or just-plain-wrong s**t, the same media turns on her with violence and vitriol. Even "joking around" can go too far or get tiresome. Even when part of our brains know something's intended as a joke, mean comments can be hard to forget. How about we normalize kindness and compliments?

No, they're not. The vast majority of people are boringly average, with literally nothing outstanding about them. That's why some (few) people are considered "weird" - they're not boringly average, hence they're different. I was bullied relentlessly as a youth for being "weird". Years later, I went to my HS reunion. The majority of people I hated back then still lived within a 100 mile radius, worked at utterly boring jobs (most factory workers, etc.), the hot girl from HS still wasn't married (she ended up becoming a single mom at age 39 because she was "tired of waiting"), and I...well, that's not important, but let's just say that I consider myself far more successful than any of them had been.

As a substitute, I shut this down QUICK! I question what it is that is so fascinating for the kid to have to be giving the "weird kid" so much attention? Usually speechless, being caught that it's on them for giving their attention in 1st place, with a "what's it to ya" kinda 'tude. I just stand up for the weird kid every time, respectfully of course. They're children still learning.

Testing is often a really stupid way to check knowledge and ability. Sometimes a lack of knowledge and ability is definitely due to bad teaching. But it's also sometimes down to a lack of interest in learning. Don't blame teachers for everything; they're not miracle workers.

As a teacher, I can tell you that if I get an assignment back and the majority of my students didn't do well, that's a fail on my part. We are going over everything again and I am going to put the time in to make sure that everyone is understanding the content. Teachers who get kicks from failing students are scum in my mind and should probably find a new job, preferably not working with other humans.

Some teachers are just elitist bastards. They think their job is not about giving every student something valuable to learn even if they don't succeed in the end ; they think it's all about competition, selection, elimination of the "weak", they actively contribute to it and are proud of it.

Gosh in the UK the teachers will do anything possible to have their students do well, shows badly on them if they don't. I was looked down upon because my class's average mark at the end of the year was 85%, they were special needs also, I thought they had worked very hard to gain that.

If a teacher is proud of his record of failed students, it just shows that that person shouldn't be teaching. It's also wrong to judge all teachers on the few bad apples in the basket.

Can we also stop making "being a virgin" such a BFD as some kind of negative. Having sex is a life-changing experience, yes, but mostly in that it tends to make life a lot more complicated (both emotionally (relationship-wise) and physically (bringing with it risks of STDs and pregnancy)) but it DOESN'T imbue people with instant adulthood or sophistication.

No smoking zones are there so people can go places without having to breathe in your smoke. And people with lung issues like me REALLY don't appreciate it. And don't get mad when we glare at you, you're the one smoking where you're not supposed to.

In the days when you could still smoke in airplanes, my mother, who is a non smoker, had to take a seat in the smoking section of a 12 hours transatlantic flight because all the non smoking seats were taken. Somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic a woman from the non-smoking section asked her is she could swap seats so that she could smoke a cigarette!

On the other hand - I hate it when I'm smoking within an explicitely declared "smoking zone" and someone (mostly parents with small children) is placing themself next to me / nearby and loudly complain about me smoking next to their child/ren -- It's a _smoking zone_! It's marked as one! Don't approach me (especially with your child) and complain to me for taking a smoke where I'm allowed to!

It's really not that hard to be a courteous smoker...try to stay in a well ventilated area outside away from other people, clean up your cigarette butts, and ffs don't blow your smoke directly at people o_O

I've (unfortunately) been a smoker for years, and most of my jobs I've had you didn't even know it unless I told someone or they saw me outside doing it. Cigarette smoke and pot smoke are obtrusive odors for people who don't partake, so it's just common courtesy in my opinion to do your best to NOT smell like smoke (especially if it ISN'T cigarette smoke)

One time my work team went for a Friday drink after work. I lit up a cigarette and walked away from the crowd. A colleague asked me why i walked away. Then i explained that it is inconsiderate to those that don't smoke. She being a smoker her self never considered that.

There was a story in the paper - The murder of Sophie Lancaster occurred in England in August 2007. The victim and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, were attacked by a group of teenage boys while walking through Stubbylee Park in Bacup, Rossendale, Lancashire, on 11 August 2007.[1] As a result of the severe head injuries Lancaster sustained in the attack, she went into a coma from which she never regained consciousness, and died of her injuries thirteen days later. The police said the attack may have been linked to the couple wearing gothic fashion and being members of the goth subculture.[2] Five teenage boys were later arrested and charged with murder. Two of them were convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. The other three were convicted and jailed for grievous bodily harm. A memorial fund was established in Lancaster's name, and numerous events have paid tribute to her locally, nationally and internationally.

When I was in college (and still wore all my punk/goth gear) I had a 12-13 year old boy kid the size of a tic tac (and lets just clarify, im not tall myself, only about an inch above average in my country at 5'4) come up to me and yell "I'LL F****N KILL YA, YA MOSHER, I'M SCOTTISH" and I just about died laughing tbh. But yea, you won't always get someone who will laugh it off, you could hurt someone deeply, it's easy not to be an asshole and not to judge someone just for how they appear. Judge people for how they act more than anything.

You can judge people all you want, as long as you know your judgment is meaningless and can likely be wrong. As a people watcher, judgment is part of the fun. Judge, don't discriminate or put down.

They are the ones with oppressed minds. Your right to chose is exactly that, your right ❤ supporting the rights of women, and people in general, is about their right to these basic autonomies. So many seem to think modest dressing and the covering of hair with different wrap styles is a form of oppression. I hope we can slowly unlearn this misconception

Or having a boss like that! I'm a professional bookkeeper with 25 years of experience, and am certified in 13 different accounting systems. Had a request to create a certain report, which the system parameters didn't support. I explained I could do it, but it would involve exporting the information into Excel and creating it that way and it would take a few hours. He insisted that it could be done. He kept arguing with me about it, even after explaining AGAIN that NO, it couldn't. I finally just shoved myself away from my desk, pointed to my chair and said, "Okay - show me how it's done". Well, you're the bookkeeper - you should know. Yeah, that's exactly my point. I AM the bookkeeper and I know more about this system & its capabilities than you do, so take my word for it when I tell you - THE SYSTEM WILL NOT DO IT. He finally shut up, but acted like I was just trying to get out of creating the report he wanted. Asshole.

He backs it out of the garage, then sits in the driveway revving it for 5-10 minutes before he finally leaves. Then he does the same exact routine when he comes back home. And never at regular times, but usually late at night. I. Hate. That. Car.

There was a website set up through a student group at my old University in which students would "confess" doing bad things. Two guys were constantly listing how they banged this drunk girl or that drunk girl. I told them to keep posting because it would take the police no time to figure out who was committing all of the campus rapes. They said "we don't rape girls. Besides..this is an anonymous website." I said "if their drunk, they can't give consent. If they can't give consent, then you've just committed rape. And if you do it enough times, anonymity goes away and they can get a warrant to search the IP addresses of every person posting here. All it takes is one parent with a pregnant daughter to get the ball rolling. Do you want to have the police knocking on your door with an arrest warrant and to serve you papers for child support?" They stopped posting.

You can actually take someone's life with gossip. Either it's so bad the person commits suicide, or if someone believes something seriously enough they may choose to actually kill them. Both have happened. Dont do it! You don't know what may be the consequences of the "telephone effect".

I have a coworker who has the "gift of gab" and is very proud of his ability to give people false assurances while being extremely vague, essentially just bombarding them with words until they're satisfied. It's a useful trick, I suppose, but when you hear him do it in real time, you realize he's just a very good liar.

Endlessly talking and bragging about their "private lives". Example I had a real d*** of a boss who once said "man it wasn't yesterday i got laid with that woman" after a customer left, which made me and my colleagues somewhat uncomfortable, he also talked about how his wife better show those "TTs" for everything he does. I'm not interested and I think it is super trashy to talk like that.

I smoked cigarettes for over 25 years. Vaping was the only thing I ever tried that actually helped me quit smoking. I'm not a teenager who just started because I thought it was cool. Now is vaping good for you? No, it's not. But it's a hell of a lot better than the 7,000 (actual number) different kinds of chemicals and carcinogens that you ingest from smoking. I don't blow clouds around of bunch of strangers and I always make sure I'm considerate to everyone around me. Don't shame people for using something that helped them quit an absolutely horrible habit.

I vape because I like the flavor variety and it’s sometimes relaxing. Maybe once or twice a week I want to sit on my porch and make pineapple flavored smoke rings. I think the problem is more for the dog than for the humans. If it's really dense crowds, it's really stressful for the dog and the small ones can get injured by people stepping on their feet because they can't see them.

I work at a drive-through vaccination clinic and the number of people who bring their dogs. Even if they are friendly, they can easily make the safe administration of the vaccine impossible. If the dog can't be restrained to the vaccinator's satisfaction, the person must leave their car. If they won't, they don't get vaccinated. The idea of "We need to go get our shots" "Good idea, let's take the dog" escapes me.
