Photostory from the streets of New York City (USA) and Sighnaghi (Georgia).
Actually, these photos are self-made and my only contribution is my carelessness.
Last year I took a two-week vacation in New York City. When I was in a hurry to pack my suitcase (I had to be at the airport at 4am and it was 12am when started to get ready), I confused one undeveloped film with the new ones. Only when I arrived back to Georgia, I realized I had shot the same film twice – in Georgia, small town of Sighnaghy and in the USA, NYC, with two weeks interval.
This is the story behind these mixed and confused images. But the whole fun for me is this imaginary bridge between two absolutely different locations/people with almost nothing in common, e.g. a portrait of a woman in Sighnaghy, who was talking to me about her son who emigrated abroad long time ago and she hadn’t heard a single word from him since then, is mixed with the image of a young man sleeping in a Battery Park on Manhatten at around 7am. Another portrait of a young afro-american homeless guy wandering around Wall Street mixed with the the young woman with Down Syndrome in Sighnaghy. When I talked to them they both were so cynical and yet positive towards their life and fate – both realists and both optimists. Two little shy girls with the Japanese man honoring them (actually he was busy with his morning gymnastics) and so on.
Maybe this is just another reflection of how we all throughout the world are connected and interrelated.
And just another hint for starting my life-long project – connecting different locations and people.
