Born in 1952, neo-expressionist painter Jean-Jacques Piezanowski lives and works in France. After he initially devoted himself to classical painting and – parallel to his activity as an engineer/scientist in the steel industry – exhibited at the Société Internationale d’Art Figuratif in France, Japan, and Germany, his artistic working method went through a fundamental change over the years.

The perfection of technique and composition of colors enabled him to use a more “contemporary” expression, which gradually led him to the unmistakable way in which he interprets Neo-Expressionism today. In the context of this development, Piezanowski finally dedicated himself to contemporary art and made it his passion.

His fascination is the portrait, or face as a mirror of the human soul.

He examined forms of expression, in particular to their aspects of revealing individual destinies. Correspondingly, there are fractures, scars, and other witnesses of transience in his depictions, which, in contrast to the aesthetics of his pictures, stand for the unadorned and at times brutal reality – and thus emphasize the character of the beautiful. Another special feature of his painting is the painting ground he uses, for which he preferably uses paper, which is then laminated onto a canvas and thus enables him to paint even more spontaneously.
