30 Of The Freshest Jokes About The Pandemic And New Covid-19 Variant “Omicron” To Make You Laugh Or Cry
On the 26th of November, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 named Omicron. It was first discovered in southern Africa and was labeled as highly transmissible. Though there’s not much knowledge about the actual risks and effects of the new strain, it’s considered to be the next big thing in the COVID-19 pandemic story.
Yet again, this has left the world in shock and some countries have already started tightening travel rules with a few already announcing lockdowns. However, even in the most difficult situations, people still find a way to carry on laughing. A new wave of Omicron variant memes has taken over social media in order to ease up the anxiety with a light dose of humor.
Bored Panda has collected some of the funniest memes and jokes that are floating around the Internet. Make sure to check them out below and upvote the most hilarious ones!

Of all the STUPID conspiracy theories (and dear god there are so many), the ones based on rearranged letters, and meanings of numbers, are the absolute stupidest. It requires us to believe that JUST BECAUSE, plotting overlords decide to leave little breadcrumb clues in things, taking extra time and effort for literally no reason. Believing conspiracy theories requires people to ignore how humans actually behave.
Do you mean the Greeks didn't design their alphabet 3000 years ago to specifically be rearranged by only English speakers after a pandemic? If you rearrange it further, you get Donalm Crotie, I suppose that doesn't mean anything either?
Load More Replies...While this new Omicron threat opens up the mental trauma we only started to let go of with the help of vaccination, internauts decided to deal with it straight away. And the method they chose is definitely closest to our hearts—by creating countless hilarious memes and jokes in reaction to it. This time, mainly about the fact that many of us already have big plans for the future and the fear that we might need to cancel them once again.
Throughout the whole pandemic, we’ve had plenty of stuff to laugh at: from toilet paper hoarding memes and funny Zoom fails to the never-ending jokes about life in lockdown. All of this really helped because instead of just sitting around and feeling the anxiety creeping in, people were able to break into a smile. In fact, Mayo Clinic Staff states that laughter is a great form of stress relief, and that’s no joke.
My brain went straight to “Please let this be a normal field trip!” “With the Friz! No way!” And now it won’t get out.

Load More Replies...If only Covid had been strong enough, even with stupidity on its side, to take out 97% of the human population....We could have had a complete reset of humanity to a population of circa 800 AD (approximately 250,000,000 world wide) in which Earth and humanity could have had a second chance. As it is now we've got nothing more than the continuation of the Internet of Stupidity and the ramifications which will come from it for the next 50-100 years. As much as it seems to be and sounds like conspiracy bullshite, the movies Idiocracy and WALL-E show very well how humans will end up. Look at what is accepted now. Simple extrapolation easily gets you to the outcome of the representations in both movies. Humanity needs, desperately, a reset to a time in which people HAD to spend more its collective time actually staying alive. Afterall...the fact that Bruce became Caitlyn has absolutely no bearing on the survival of human kind.
There’s plenty of short-term benefits: a good laugh can enhance your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulate your heart and other vital organs. It also activates and then cools down your stress response which leaves you feeling relaxed. Lastly, "Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress."
Thinking about long-term effects, laughter is known for strengthening your immune system. Plus, it’s a great way to relieve pain, since it makes the body produce natural painkillers. Not to mention that it significantly improves your mood: "Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your stress, depression, and anxiety and may make you feel happier. It can also improve your self-esteem."
*So my good ol' friend 2020 took off the place and started all the things-
I saw this some template for 2020 showing 2021 around the workplace.
Faces look like: Joker-"So this is what I've done so far" Pennywise-"You sick bas****! What were you thinking?!"
Though Bobby knew he shouldn't, instincts kicked in. He knew his best friend would understand. The tennis ball is is favorite catch toy after all.
Having a good chuckle helps you to cope with sometimes hard and difficult situations. If you’re scared that you’re missing out on all of these benefits because you have no sense of humor, don’t worry, humor can be learned. You can start by watching funny movies or TV shows and hanging out with friends that make you laugh. Looking at funny images and reading jokes can also help you improve, and if you’re scrolling through this post, you know you’re in the right place.
Maybe they're saving the silhouette of the queen xenomorph from Alien Resurrection for 2023, just in case.
Load More Replies...Omikron is the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet. It's literally means little o. The last 24th letter is Omega meaning big O.
The alphabet is going to finish in few time. There're been also all letters from d to o. That's why after greek letters we'll start transformers names.
Load More Replies...O I looooved this game! And the only way to win was creating an airborne virus that spreads via droplets, with a couple of days incubation time and always keep the mutations and virulence updated

Covidiots are the fedora men on mic who tell you your voice sounds hot and then gets mad when you're not into men :/
A study published in the Psychology of Popular Media journal found that memes helped people cope with life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers with Pennsylvania State University and the University of California Santa Barbara found that those who looked at memes during the pandemic reported having "higher levels of humor" and feeling calmer and more content.
It's always been a mistake to frame the virus around one's personal risk of death. Yes, it's relatively low for most of us. Not the point. The major risk is to our healthcare systems; in the US, more than 25% of healthcare workers have left the profession. Many of those are the older ones close to retirement anyway; they had the most experience. That makes everything more dangerous, from getting a timely cancer diagnosis to being saved if you come in with cardiac arrest or a gunshot wound or from falling off a ladder. EVERYTHING about this virus should be talked about in terms of the damage to our community, which is profound.
Already shown to be very contagious, but only mild symptoms so...
...so the sooner it becomes the dominant strain, the better.
Load More Replies...Greek alphabet is not endless, soon it won't be enough to name all mutations.
Give up the fight against COVID and the mutations will happen faster and harder ending up with one that could be very deadly. But at least you would have your “freedom”.
I am not there! I'm way over on the other side, almost thru it! No, wait, I am back there now. Damn!
Tbh I think we've got to stop with the whole "Wuhan lab" thing. There's no proof that it came from a lab, and scientists have deemed the theory highly unlikely. All the continued tinfoil-hatting does is increase tensions and prevent reasonable discourse.
On one hand i agree but on the other hand it's not a good sign that they don't let the WHO investigate! The world has a right to know what happened and no country should keep that a secret
Load More Replies...No one ever claimed it came from a "fish market".... There's a HUGE difference between fish market and wet market.
Load More Replies...They conducted an online experiment with more than 748 participants to see how looking at funny pictures will affect them and influence the way they're coping with the pandemic stress. These people reviewed a variety of memes and were asked to rate the cuteness, humor, and emotional responses prompted by the materials. Also, report if they made them think about COVID-19.
Especially when it happens in months rather then centuries.
Load More Replies...The mutations will get mutations that will mutate into even more mutations and so on and so on.
and so on and so forth and yada yada yada 😂 😭 😮💨
Load More Replies...and it will for ever be known as "the groundhog epidemic"...maybe we need understand the true meaning of covid to break the spell
Maybe we just need to accept it and get on with it as all anyone has done so far is bankrupt their country and destroy the health service..
Load More Replies..."Compared with viewing other media content, viewing memes resulted in Internet users experiencing greater humor and positive emotions. When Internet users viewed memes with captions focused on COVID-19, they reported lower COVID-19-related stress levels than if they viewed memes focused on other topics, suggesting that tackling a stressor directly with humorous popular media content can benefit our emotional state and stress levels."
The omicron variant is NOT 100x more dangerous, that's just fearmongering. It may be more transmissible (similar to Delta) but it's not more deadly, according to current research. Remember, viruses want to spread and infect more host cells, not kill off their hosts. This is why concerning mutations usually involve higher transmissibility, not more deadly illness.
So far studies are showing it's less deadly. It's more contagious but less severe according to actual cases in So. Africa.
Load More Replies...Nobody is saying it's more dangerous, just more transmissible. The who actually made a point that nobody has yet died from the Omicron variant or even been hospitalised.
I've heard it's pretty mild but has potential to evade the vaccine. That seems to be what health officials are gathering at this point in time.
Load More Replies...I've never tested positive, I'm vaccinated and I'm an essential worker who meets hundreds of strangers daily. If Covid wanted me, it would get me already. I don't care anymore.
Yeah it's kinda unfortunate they chose the Greek alphabet because "The Omega Variant" sounds like it's gonna be a zombie horror movie
If it's any consolation, 2022 is the year of Soylent Green
Load More Replies...The lead author of this research, Jessica Gall Myrick, Ph.D., said that "as the pandemic kept dragging on, it became more and more interesting to me how people were using social media and memes in particular, as a way to think about the pandemic." They found that viewing just three memes can already help you cope with the stress that a global pandemic causes you.
This is what I add silently in my head every time I hear the word Omicron!

Good thing you don't live in France where Macron is the president! :)
Load More Replies...Yeah within the first few hours of the new variant it had only been found in the southern African countries of Israel Belgium Austria Australia Italy etc.
History repeating itself. After all, the "Spanish Flu" did not come from Spain. It's just that the comparatively free media there did excessively write about it, while the other countries were to busy being at war and censoring their press. So it was percepted as coming from Spain, because that's where the news started.
Load More Replies...South Africa has phenomenal sequencing and analysis capability, in large part due to coping with the AIDS virus. So yes, we're all stupid if we think "it was discovered there" = "it originated there".
So strange that variants are discovered in places that use the best sequencing analysis. Who knew?
Load More Replies...It angers me to no end. The breeding grounds for new variants were there, for all to see, in the tens of thousands of cases daily in Europe and the US in the beginning of autumn. No masks, not enough people vaxxed, but with the financial power and freedom to travel the world. Such hypocrisy on the part of the "developed" world! 😠💢
The same blame game pertained to the "Kent" variant - fact was U.K. has exceedingly good lab facilities for detecting variation and were simply the first ones to tag it. Personally I find the geographical names that are being attached to variants to be offensive, misleading and unfair.
“This suggests that not all media are uniformly bad for mental health and people should stop and take stock of what type of media they are consuming. If we are all more conscious of how our behaviors, including time spent scrolling, affect our emotional states, then we will better be able to use social media to help us when we need it and to take a break from it when we need that instead,” the professor at Pennsylvania State University explained.
“I am Lrrr ruler of the planet Omicron Persei 8” I can’t stop thinking this every time omicron is mentioned on the news.

As a Greek person i can not understand why it is so difficult. . Ooooooo miiiii kkkkkk rooon. Just make the sound of each letter as in the alphabet. So easy
I’ve been wondering about this thank you. Is the first O pronounced like Opa or like Oscar?
Load More Replies...One of my "friends" on fb told me, that there is not a letter omicron in Greek alphabet... And that they named it after some guy (forgot the name, sorry) who produces Graphene, which is in vaccine and which cause infertility :D
I am Greek and l can tell you for a fact Omicron is the 16th letter in yhe Greek alphabet
Load More Replies...Yeah, it's really simple to pronounce...maybe it's just some inside joke we don't know about?
Load More Replies...I do not want my friend to learn the Greek alphabet like this

Serious question: how come the main character changes hair color in the poster? Did the series switch main characters? Is it magic? I'm sorry, I don't know anything about anime.
In short, the main character changes appearance each time he reaches a new power level. Many of these changes include hair color/style.

Load More Replies...That's great. Hopefully you are still taking measures to protect your more vulnerable neighbors and to ensure the medical system in your vicinity doesn't completely collapse. And if you choose not to take those protective measures, I hope you don't expect one minute of medical care when you get sick.
Load More Replies...Same. I got the vaccine, I wear a mask in public. I go out in public only when absolutely necessary. What else can I do? Wait for the inevitable blast wave?
seriously. it's not like we were getting a handle on delta yet.

Due to the new variant I can’t get two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda
My mother was a fast-food worker about 2 years ago. She had people order that all the time, and she had to constantly explain that there are no number 45s on a Whataburger menu.
Load More Replies...No, the vaccine decreases the probablility of spreading/getting/dying by about tenfold. It's like a seatbelt. A seatbelt doesn't 100% prevent you from ever getting hurt in a car crash, but highly decreases the likelihood of getting killed/severely injured.
Load More Replies...Nu - soud a lot like a NEW, so WHO skipped it, because it migth cause panic. Xi - skipped because what is a name of General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and the President of the People's Republic of China?
Xi was skipped because, surprise surprise, lots of people in Asian countries have Xi as a surname. It's a fairly common family name. It doesn't have to do with Xi Jinping, it has everything to do with the Asian people across the world who, had they named the variant Xi, would have to deal with an insane upsurge of racist and xenophobic attacks. As an Asian person, I experienced it at the start and throughout the pandemic, just because the virus happened to originate in China. It's horrible. Good on the WHO for making the choice they did.

I swear if I have to go back to virtual learning and not be able to be there this year I will probably actually die. My mental health was almost completely destroyed last time I had to, and if I do it again it will be destroyed and that would be so bad. I can't do that again.
I just read your bio- you have so much in common with my daughter. I feel so bad for you kids, this cannot be an easy time to try and learn, go to school/school from home, deal with being a teenager, deal with the crappy times we are living in. You kids are stronger than you know and will come out of this wiser than all the rest of us. Hang in there kiddo, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS reach out to someone if you need it. The world needs you, even if you don't know it yet
Load More Replies...Funny how if everyone got the vaccine when it first came out, wore masks and socially distanced than we wouldn’t be at this stage. But hey! Freedom over life right?
Even if everyone was willing to get vacinated, vaccine hourding by rich countries would have gotten us here.

The Covid virus will run its course. If you study every epidemic there has ever been, the susceptible always die off. Then the plague ends. The people with sturdy genes and bloodlines survive. Sorry folks, but even with new vaccines and the latest antiviral drugs, this will be the case with Covid also. Yes, take the vaccines, always a good thing. Yes, wear masks, socially distance, isolate, wash hands, and do all the other things the experts recommend. But the virus will mutate 100 times over before they develop the next version of vaccine or drug. Sorry folks, but those with a susceptible weakness in the genes somewhere will eventually die. That's how viruses work. The virus finds an exploitable weakness, and then it makes the most of it. The flu virus can be caught, exchanged, and transmitted by pigs, ducks, and humans. Whenever these are in close proximity like on a pig farm, mutations happen. It becomes much more complicated with bats thrown in the mix. Zoo veterinarians tell us that even lions can catch it. Does that mean your house cat can spread it? Count yourself lucky & blessed if you have survived this long. Before it is all over, the final count numbers of deaths and crippling cases may be several times the current count. So stay safe & well!
