When you think of Gen Z, your mind might go to TikTok dances and fashion trends it seems like nobody over the age of 20 could pull off. This generation has minimal to no memory of life before smartphones, and they often use their online presences to discuss social issues and activism. When it comes to their role in the workforce, however, some older generations love to poke fun at Gen Z. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most blatant examples of older people having no faith in Gen Z, with a few posts sprinkled in of people praising the youth for their fresh mindset. Keep reading to also find an interview with Amanpreet Singh Gulati, who has experience working with young Zoomers. Enjoy seeing just how vast generational divides can be, and decide for yourself how you feel about this younger generation.
Then if you’re looking for more Gen Z content, we’ve got the perfect Bored Panda piece for you to check out next right here.

to be honest I'd totally do the same.. that "reward" feels like a punishment :/
That’s exactly why I quit my retail job. The harder I worked at my job, the more work I got… not more HOURS or PAY, mind you - just more tasks/work within my normal shift. Yay! (And I’m not even Gen Z - I’m Gen X!)
It's just not McDonald's but many companies are just the same. Whoever is slack no work is dumped on the slacker. Irrespective of salary
That's with any job really. Old school work ethic..work, work, work, and then work some more. If you have free time you should be working. Idk why we have to work our lives away and then get to "enjoy" life when we retire but then are too old. Sure squeeze stuff in between owrk and then your just going through life tired so are you really enjoying it?
How is this one "Older Generations Completely Lost Faith In The Gen Z Workforce" ? Its a person standing up for their own employment rights. I dont see how 1 person doing 2 peoples jobs is considered gen z its exploitation pure and simple
Gen Z does work. But Gen Z wants fair compensation. And also sees people who work less but have better con ections move up. No one is going to work their butt off fpr that would you?
How is this "older generations losing faith in Gen-Z workforce." I did the same thing when I was a teenager. Nola Smon is also an older generation. We both think she's wonderful for doing what she did. (By the way, the reward at the IRS for doing your job well was being laid off sooner. But that was a different job.)
Generational Wars is so stupid. It's just a distraction in the end, from getting angry at things that actually matter, like *why* we're bickering, not that we're bickering. Boomers killed it for us, gen Y is hiding from every conversation about it, and now gen Z is eating the crumbs left in the dirt. How about we focus on how cracked the country is?
People like to name generations because it gives them something or someone to blame things on. Every generation has made mistakes, and also done great things, but the next generation wants to just dump the blame for the bad stuff on the last one. The generation after that will do the same. For some reason I can't fathom we have all decided that being a cohesive group of humans is no longer desirable. We have to split, divide and become extremists at everything. It's very sad.

I think those days are gone forever, along with the elusive unicorn called a pension.
Load More Replies...We reached out to Amanpreet Singh Gulati, marketing head of the app GoSocial and one of the people featured on this list for defending Gen Z, to hear about his experiences working with the younger generation and what inspired him to tweet about them. "In the past and present, I have hired Gen Z, and we are also working with several Gen Zers. The young minds I see around me are bursting with vigor and creativity, so I decided to write down my ideas." We also asked him if he thinks Gen Z tends to be undervalued by their elders. "It does happen sometimes, but not always. Many in the industry admire Gen Z and make sure they have equal opportunities, regardless of their age," he told us.
Next, we wanted to know what he thought about people who make assumptions about Gen Z like that they "don't want to work". "No generation can be generalized in this way," Amanpreet says. "Every generation consists of individuals of all kinds. Generation Z is more creative and tends to look for smart work than hard work, which is not necessarily a bad thing. We just need to know how to harness that different energy." Lastly, he wanted to add that, "Young minds always bring new perspectives and help you innovate. Gen Z members on your team will help you keep up with trends and changing buying behaviors. It is always great to have them on your team."
Medical expenses is a BIG thing. It used to be that if you had a job, you likely had great medical insurance and a great pension. Both are rarer now. Yeah, the law requires you get medical insurance, but it's often TERRIBLE. And good luck finding a mental-health professional who accepts insurance. (My insurance is otherwise pretty good.)
Load More Replies...Gen X would like a word. A lot of us tried to enter the workforce in the '90's only to be told that "those types of jobs don't exist anymore"
Why are we so forgotten though?! We've been the latch key kids and been screwed in every direction! Our parents both worked and got divorced and we got shunted around and were lost and now we still don't get a mention.
Load More Replies...I honestly don't know who they're talking about. When I got my first job after university over 30 years ago, I was broke, and barely covered rent. When my parents got married, they lived in someone else's garage. When my grandparents got married, they lived with my Grandpa's family before finally getting a tiny apartment. So I don't know anyone who got that first job and bought a big house and a brand new car and had the American dream right away. That must have skipped my whole family for generations.
Nobody is talking about getting a house and a car right away - they're talking about getting it EVER.

The only part of the boomers' experience that everyone seem to conveniently refuse to acknowledge.
Load More Replies...I hate to break it to you, but GenX experienced this first. I know everyone forgets we exist, but there's a reason so many of us are nihilistic and suicidal. We didn't even have the internet then, and so we all felt alone, angry, and helpless to effect change. With my college degree, I got a job as...a secretary, then a typesetter, then a mail handler (heavy physical labor). There was no American Dream for GenX.
My friend has a factory job and I'm a teacher. He has his GED, I wasted my $ on a master's. Before you even add in his over time he's making 4 times as much as me. About 6x with the overtime. He's the only breadwinner with a wife and 5 kids and they have 4 cars that are all less than 4 years old that came new from the lot, and he just upgraded to a half million dollar home about 5 years ago. Factory jobs can pay very well.

Load More Replies...Gen Z, also known as Zoomers, iGen or Centennials, includes anyone born between the years 1997 and 2012. In the United States, they’re the most ethnically diverse and largest generation, making up 27% of the nation’s population. Politically, American Gen Zers tend to align themselves with millennials but with a more pessimistic mindset. 68% of them feel “the US is headed in the wrong direction”, which is more than any other older generation. These beliefs motivate many of them to be politically and socially active. While Gen Zers often get lumped into stereotypes about how fragile and sensitive they are, they also consider themselves to be the most accepting and open-minded generation.
Almost half of Gen Z in the US is made up of minorities, and many of these young people passionately support social movements like Black Lives Matter, transgender rights and feminism. While they have grown up with access to the internet and smartphones, Gen Zers much prefer getting their entertainment through social media and streaming services, rather than traditional cable. In fact, they spend as much time on their smartphones as older generations do watching television.
Again... why the generational warfare? I think we all recognize that sucks.
Unfortunately, the Boomers that did get in on the dream and were able to retire on it have no clue and less sympathy. As a Baby baby boomer (1965), I have at times talked myself blue trying to explain.
Load More Replies...This hits me personally as my mom was laid off from her job she worked for 22 years. Because of required yearly raises, she worked her way up to making $23/hr with no college education. This was 2016. It took her a year to find a job even though she applied to like 30+ places because she was asking for at least $18/hr. She lowered it to $16/hr and finally accepted a job making $14.50/hr. So it always makes me laugh when people say you need 'job experience' to make more money. My mom had 30+ years of working experience and half of that was for the specific job she was working. She makes the same as her 20-something coworkers....
GenX, all Boomers I worked with got their annual raises their whole career. Finished college just before 9/11 and early 2004s, then recession. Never ever got a raise in the 2000s. Always on freeze.

I think it's a good way to keep the job market a workers market instead of an employers market. This way a company has to pay more and have better benefits with attention to retention.
Load More Replies...It's NORMAL when you're young to change jobs a lot. It takes time to figure out what kind of work you like to do. When I first started out, I'd stay at a job anywhere from a few months to a year. Finally found a job I liked pretty well. Stayed there 5 years. Went to a better job, and have been there almost 18 years now. People should NEVER feel that they have to keep that first job forever. Try a bunch of stuff! It's great to be young and have that option.
Yeah! Like you'll never go anywhere if you stay at a grocery store forever
Load More Replies...No generation is exempt from the cull of the employment knife. Gen Z need to know we ALL are at risk.......
While this generation tends to get a bad rap from their elders, they have plenty of positive qualities that are often overlooked. Their open-minded and accepting attitudes are leading us towards a more progressive society. For example, about half of Gen Zers believe same-sex marriage is positive for society, compared to only 27% of boomers. Gen Z is also more inclusive when it comes to gender identity. 59% of Gen Z says that forms asking for someone’s gender should include more options than simply “man” and “woman”, and 35% of Gen Z say they know someone personally who prefers being referred to with gender-neutral pronouns.
We also cannot ignore the challenges Gen Z is now having to face by entering the workforce amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, this young generation of workers was particularly vulnerable to job loss due to their saturation in the high-risk service industry. With much of this generation being in college or right out of college when the pandemic hit, these kids deserve to be cut a little slack.
All generations are a 'mixed bag' and all should be treated fairly but when people are starting out in a career why wouldn't you want to encourage, train, mentor and do what you can to get the best out of them? Treat people well and most will reward you with their best endeavours.
This, and expecting someone under 25 to have the experience navigating workplace culture that a successful 55 has is unrealistic. When people complain about younger generations, I hear "we are unwilling to invest in training in our profession". It's the same philosophy as cutting R&D to increase profit: it's psychopathic and not in any way sustainable.

Ecxactly,, nothing wrong with leaving toxic workplaces behind. I wish I would have done that when I was younger.
There's some truth in that if your willing to take a risk in training someone. Some people make it worth it while others waste your time. I also trained people in construction and hauling too so I know it can be difficult to train people.

Yeah, that is not specific to people born after 1990. You just seem to have been denied contact with older types who had these 'qualities'. Also gen X here, though towards the early end of the scale.
Load More Replies...Gen Z is also more concerned about taking care of their health than older generations. 72% of them view healthy eating as “an integral part of both their physical and mental health”, and 60% of them believe the pandemic’s most important effect on society will be an increased emphasis on taking care of our health. In terms of how Zoomers prefer to eat, they are more inclined to reach for whole, organic and plant-based foods, with 79% of them considering processed foods unhealthy. And while they spend countless hours scrolling through social media, some of that time is used to find healthy recipe ideas. Over half of Gen Z reports using Instagram, TikTok and advice from friends to learn how to eat healthier.

Aren't most gen z people like teenagers? A generation is 25 years right? Most of us are still in high school
The American dream is actually an American night terror. The capitalists, employers, and politicians lied just to lure you in they're people. They do a song and dance about what a great opportunity this so called job is and when you're hired BOOM the night terror begins. America wishes we were as "great" as we boast about. It's not. It isn't now it wasn't then. America has never been great. And never will be. Working in America is modern slavery. Third world countries aren't alone anymore.
Not sure the American Dream was ever real. People geaduated HS, couldn't affrd college, lived with famil;y for years, paid small rent until they could get a house the size of a chicken coop. tHAT'S WHAT i REMEMBER.
I would create my own dream. So you don't have a house with a picket fence, a stay at home wife, and 2.5 kids. The American dream has been dead for at least 20 yrs. Make yourself happy, nobody can do it for you.
"Why the hell would you?" Uhm ... eating comes to mind almost immediately.
Because I am not going to pay for you. You still have to earn your own money regardless.
The tips my dad gave me are life lessons. Not a house though sad to say but my dad did his best for me and my sisters.
Load More Replies...Love that, "have dad pay off loans" right after saying they paid off $200k in student loan debt. If love to "do what you did". Lol
It would take 153 years to pay off $200K in loans by skipping a $5 coffee 5 days a week and putting that money on the loan instead... ONE HUNDRED FIFTY THREE YEARS! Thanks, but I'll keep my coffee habit you jackass!
OK... that's a funny "false flag." But there IS a good point: This may be the wrong moment to send this message, but the biggest mistake I ever made was waiting too long to buy a house. YOU DON'T NEED MASSIVE SAVINGS. When I was a kid, I was taught you needed 20% down; there's such a thing as "mortgage insurance" which is a rip-off, but much better than pouring your entire livelihood down the toilet every month for rent. You probably need about 6% for closing costs, etc., and a few extra percent for necessary repairs. PARENTS: MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS CAN AFFORD THAT SIX PERCENT IF IT IS AT ALL POSSIBLE. If 6% is a huge amount of money, MOVE. Seriously, folks. If you can't afford 6%, there is nothing about living in California, New York, Boston, etc., worth $2,000 a month lost in rent.
Depends on where you live. I pay a 23 yr old employee $60k per year. She tried buying a condo. I did with that salary at 27. Condos here cost $350k - $450k now. She can't qualify. Even if she could, people are paying $50k - $80k or more over asking and all in cash. It's impossible. I have another 24 yr old staff member who is moving away in 2 years. Not because she doesn't like our state or job, but because it's unattainable.
Load More Replies...Going plant-based is also much more popular among Gen-Z than older generations, with a staggering 79% of them opting to go meatless at least once or twice a week. Brands like Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods and Oatly have become popular among this generation, even for individuals who still include animal products in their diets. According to a study by the dairy company Arla, almost half of Gen Z even “feels shame around ordering dairy”. While that’s not what Arla wanted to hear, Zoomers are increasingly concerned about animal welfare and the environmental effects of our diets, so they’re shifting further away from animal products. It’s been proven that “ditching meat and dairy is the single biggest way to reduce a person’s environmental impact”, so it’s no surprise that this socially-conscious generation would rather order their coffee with oat milk than cow milk.
They talk about the invisible hand of capitalism when we are consumers, how we can choose with our money who succeeds. Praises to the ones who do this with their employment too!

Please explain how someone can afford to do this? I’d be living on the street if I quit a job I didn’t like.
Self-employment, freelancing, contracting. There's a lot of ways to make money without a "job". And maybe foodbanks and letting bills be overdue. It actually takes quite awhile to be put on the street.

Wait til you learn what GenX faced against Boomers post 9/11 and the great recession of the 2000s….they wouldnt retire because they lost too much in stocks. Too ethnocentric I guess to bridge the gap since you were watching cartoons while we made $4.25 -$5.15 for 10 years.

i AM 75. i STARTED TEACHING IN 1970 MAKING 8.5 k A YEAR. hWEVER, AT THE END OF EACH YEAR, i WAS INFORMED that I was being laid off because of enrollment drops. Tenure didn't matter. They laid off over 200 teachers 13 out of 14 years. I was lucky to be rehi red after the summer most of the time.
If people are productive and can work anywhere, why not? I think it's probably the crappiest of managers who fear this - they want to micro manage and control because they're not really up to the task of judging productivity and quality of work for itself. If they can see people at their desk with their heads down they assume they are working hard - hah! How many would be on Bored Panda having a sneaky break hmmm?? I'm self employed and part time btw so can please myself!
Bcz they paid for all the fancy buildings so they have to have people to fill them. It's not about being productive at all, just what they paid for.

Now f*****g stop taking jobs that make you class traitors!
Why would I want to return to an office and have to pay someone else to check in my pets, deal with annoying office talk and drama, listen to Glen mouthbreathing and Stacey's constant loud lip-smack snacking, and having my boss constantly on surveillance for productivity, just to go home in Earth polluting traffic all annoyed from my day? I can easily sit at home and take care of my pets myself, avoid the annoyance of others and let my boss watch my work ethic on my VPN without my knowledge, while being a lot more productive and relaxed in both my personal and work lives. Seems a no brainer to me...

Load More Replies...Certainly in the UK people are happy NOT to do the 2 hour each way commute. I am working from home now though I do periodically go into the office for a bit. Not the whole day as I have to pick my son up from school.
Same here in Germany. Our branch is fulfilling our quota from home, why should we be forced to go into office? Thankfully, our office was already meant for less than full employee capacity before the pandemic, due to a fixed work-from-home policy of a certain number of days per week, so they don't even want us all to go back every day. We're going in if we want to, if our situation at home warrants it (e.g. no internet, repair workers, appointments in the city after work) or for team days when most of or team shows up, has lunch together and socialises. It's perfect, since both my husband and I work there (different teams) and one of us can always pick up the children from daycare at a reasonable time - not after 10 hours, as it would have to be if we were both working in the city.

On the topic of the environment, Gen Zers are very concerned about climate change and protecting the planet. In fact, it’s their number one priority, according to a Deloitte survey. Young people want to work at green companies that align with their personal values, and when it comes to their purchases, 73% of Zoomers are “willing to pay more for sustainable products”. One 19-year-old, Trinity Gbla, told CNBC, “There’s such a huge climate crisis going on in the world that you just cannot ignore. Usually, when I’m shopping, I like to see what’s ethically sourced, or if it’s environmentally friendly. Price is definitely something that’s important to me, especially because I’m a college student, so it’s like, I’m broke. But I’m willing to pay for more expensive stuff when it’s ethically sourced.”

I'm a GenXer with a Millennial daughter, and she's eminently capable and competent, so leave me out of the blame game.
I literally only have to sign my name personally on checks. Checks are obsolete. Cursive is obsolete. Has this basically a boomer heard of e-signatures and PINs? My bank does this. My college did this. Heck, even the IRS does this for taxes. Knowing cursive affects 0.00000001% of a person's life. Not really a high priority need.
My millennial and Gen Z kids learned enough cursive to be able to forge my signature on school notes! You learn what you need to learn for the times you live in. Why fill up your brain with useless stuff that you can look up? In ancient times, I used to fill up 4 checkbook registers a year. Now I have had the same one since 2008. I wrote zero checks in 2000. I suspect most people from their mid 30's and older can remember their childhood phone number but none of us knows any current phone numbers except maybe our own.And that is fine. Save your short term memory for the hundreds of passwords you need to change all the time.

Each generation loses a little as technology grows... But guess who's setting up your Smart TVs and fixing your smartphones? We are 🤣
I know my signature and that’s it. In third grade, I was told that from 4th grade on, only cursive writing would be accepted for assignments. Looking back as a college dropout, f**k the entire American education system.

Is this someone who has gone back to a job then? The story before 'resumption' might be interesting - maybe they were persuaded back against their better judgement after being treated badly the last time so weren't going to stand for it for one second this time🤷
Well, if your introduction to your new workplace is someone treating you like garbage, why would you stay?
That's why many are leaving customer service. If I'm going to be treated like s**t because YOUR having a bad day. I can do it for more money
Time is money. When you apply for a job you are indicating that you can do the job. Best training is hands on anyway.
Maybe they got a job offer while they were out and were just looking for an excuse to jump ship
College students choosing to pursue career paths focused on sustainability have also been on the rise in recent years. A 2020 survey at the University of Southern California found that 64% of undergraduate students are “very interested in on-campus sustainability”. Jill Sohm, the director of Environmental Studies at USC, told The Guardian that her department has seen a great rise in enrollment during the last decade. “In the past, interest in the environment and sustainability was probably more of a niche interest,” says Sohm. “Whereas now I see students that are studying in many different fields across campus also have an interest in sustainability.” 32% of Gen Z has even participated in at least one “major environmental action” over the past year such as donating, volunteering, attending a rally or contacting an elected official.
I feel like if they bothered to listen to Gen X, we could have told y’all these problems were coming.
Load More Replies...We do not need population growth esp in industrialized countries= Absolute greatest contributor to environmental destruction NO question. The argument about "supporting an aging population ahead etc..." is BS. All the resources that go into 'raising a person'' can be reallocated for this and/or workforce economies can adjust in generational shifts. Nurtured, resource-supported (but modestly) development of people beats quantity of people most always; esp with innovation and competitiveness on the world stage.
Thank you. I've made this point myself at times but you've written it more eloquently. Governments panic at the thought of changing how we do things which is part of the problem - so they keep banging out the same messages. Another one is 'can't raise taxes for the wealthy otherwise they'll leave'. The real reason they don't want to do that is because THEY are the wealthy and don't want to stump up more themselves. I'm not saying there wouldn't be some that would leave of course... though I'm sure I've read in similar scenarios in the past that they came back.

Load More Replies...I quit a job via text once. Had the boss come back trying to talk down to me, calling it unprofessional. Let him know I felt it was unprofessional putting me in a COVID trafficked area in a hospital at the starting days in my state despite my asking to not be put there because I lived with immune compromised people and especially unprofessional to tell me to lie to them about where I'm working when I made it clear they were deeply uncomfortable with me working there due to their health issues. What a d**k.
Y'all in the comments disrespecting the person's intellect just bc y'all don't understand the meaning of the "it's giving __" format is actually hilarious 💀 y'all are friggin pathetic
Story of one that I hired: He applied, interviewed, and hired by me, started, worked three weeks and got his first paycheck. He came into my office and said that he earned three hundred dollars more than he needs and wants to cut back his hours to match that. Truth, I was all for it. Find your happy place and stay there.
The worst part is he sent a rxtarded text and left before the boss could say "wtf were you even trying to say before quitting?" Lol
We gen z sometimes forget that old people don't understand r slang but I doubt he cared since he was giving shackled 😂
Load More Replies...I don't understand how people are able to feed and house themselves if they refuse to remain employed. How can they afford to do that and still eat?
Load More Replies...This is 2022 ffs, we should be able to work one job and not have to "hustle"
Exactly. My grandma was born in the depression, and aside from having a deadbeat husband, never had money problems in her life. I took all her frugal habits to heart as a kid and it still isn't enough. She was the one paying the bills by watching a few neighborhood kids while her husband drank his checks away. So why is it we need 4 side jobs just to make ends meet? Shouldn't be this way at all.
Load More Replies...Anti work? Well, it must be nice. All these poor Gen Zs who will be living in shanty towns and tents. I grew up poor and I worked my a*s off since I was 15 and took a lot of s h i t to be independent and financially viable. I'm not rich, but I live comfortably. I'm Gen X, BTW. There is money to be made out there, but it's not a amusement park. As my mom would say: suck it up.
Load More Replies...Lol "anti-work"? It's more like anti-abuse. Their dreams haven't been crushed yet, that's why they don't tolerate the abuse.
Destroying yourself physically and mentally for insane hours with below the belt un-livable pay is not an "anti-work" ideology, its modern day slavery.
For everyone saying that we'll all be poor and living in tents if we're anti-work, remember that we are missing 7/8 of the message being conveyed here and that "anti-work" does not mean "not working at all." Rather, it demands a work-life balance, respect for personal time, and a living wage so that no one has to work 3 three jobs while maintaining five side hustles and foregoing medical treatments just to scrape rent together. "Anti-work" is about abolishing "work" in a society that uses it as a form of exploitation. It pro-union, labor movement, UBI, and worker's rights. Life is more than work, and working should facilitate LIVING.
Older generations made mistakes of keeping their TV shows available for consumption to show the younger generations the "suburban life" of 1 family member supporting a family of 4 while affording a 2 story home. I did a report on the college my dad went to in the 70s vs when I went to college. Just to afford the tuition for the same school vs the minimum wage then to the minimum wage now, I would have to work 13.7 hours more a week just to afford tuition to the same school. Including overall cost of living like rent, food, and gas, the average out cost was working 2.3x more hours than my dad did. But we get called lazy.....I would gladly work like my dad did to get what he has. I would even work the 13 more hours as I got used to working 2 jobs 50 - 60 hours a week to support myself. As long as I got the house and ability to go out for burgers and drinks every week. Not just a crappy apartment and ramen noodles at home.
"Shockingly" indeed. Also, as an older Millennial I'd like to think we've at least lay some foundations for this mindset. Though I do applaud Gen Z for realising they only have one life and making the most of it.
The "hustle" mentality is possibly the worst thing to happen to our culture in recent years. We shouldn't have to "hustle" by working over 80 hour weeks on our main job, side gigs, etc. just to get by and pay our rent. The fact that "hustle" culture got so popular in the first place showed just how much previous generations bought into the corporate propaganda of "pulling yourself up by the bootstraps"... a phrase which originally was making fun of the very idea of hustle culture btw since pulling yourself up by your bootstraps is literally physically impossible!
Gen Z is often overlooked or not taken seriously simply because they’re young, but it’s important to realize how influential they actually are. According to Forbes, Gen Z has a spending power of up to $143 billion, and they accounted for an astonishing 40% of global customers in 2020. So isn’t it important for companies and brands to understand what this generation is looking for? Well, not surprisingly, social media engagement is extremely valuable to Gen Zers. The days of Facebook have come and gone, however, with TikTok and Instagram being the younger generation’s preferred social media sites. In fact, 60% of all TikTok users belong to Gen Z. In the same vein, technologically savvy companies are important to Zoomers, who spend an average of 4 hours and 15 minutes on their phones every day. If a company wants to really impact Gen Z, their online presence is vital.
Gen X job interviews: "You have no social media account, you are a weirdo, no thanks!" :P My colleagues after 2 years can't still process the simple fact, that I don't have a smartphone :D
My last interview included them asking why I didn't give them my social media info like they asked. I said "those accounts haven't been active since I was in high school because I was being stalked and didn't want to jeopardize my safety for a minions meme" and they got really quiet really fast
Ya b******t, yall didnt have MySpace. That was Genx. Recycled jokes, fake!
That's because millennials are being employed by boomers and xers, gen z are being employed by millennials... You're welcome
Load More Replies...We millennials were raised to be super careful about what we post online, because it will be there forever and we might regret it someday! All these kids who throw caution to the wind and post everything make me nervous.
As a Geb Zer, I actually got questioned on my lack of social media, particularly why I didn't have any. My response was simply I didn't really feel like using it and didn't like the idea of giving so much information to a company like Facebook (for what should be OBVIOUS reasons). The interviewer didn't seem happy with that answer and the rest of the interview went on... but it definitely felt like they were just going through the motions. I didn't get the job, and I am pretty sure it is because of my lack of social media. So now I have social media.... because apparently to get a job I have to give all my information to some shady company that sells my information to advertisers and other shady corporations.
So that's what you're doing here and you're projecting? I'll bet people said the same about television.
Load More Replies...At least the employers are finding out what happens when employees feel like they've got nothing to lose. The big bad bosses like to talk about loyalty, but they do nothing to inspire it.
I feel like gen z (and some millennials) are the living breathing "find out" stage after years and years of abusive companies f-©king around.
Money can't buy happiness. They say. It can, I argue. Among other things, money allowed me to tell an arrogant POS to sit and spin on a piece of rebar because I could keep paying my bills without having to disrespect myself.
I also believe money can buy a degree of happiness, and I know for sure that poverty buys misery.
Load More Replies...Online marketing to Gen Z also needs to be strategic and transparent, if it’s going to be effective. While these young people are often more technologically savvy than the people advertising to them, Zoomers can be brutal when it comes to dismissing companies as “cringey” or uncool. They’re searching for meaningful, personalized interactions, even from corporations. 69% of Gen Z even believe that “brands should help them achieve their goals”, and half of them claim to have stopped purchasing a brand due to their ethical practices. This socially aware generation holds fast to their morals and expects a lot out of others, including the brands they support.
I wonder where HE works! I’m gonna guess not retail or food service.
Boomers would never use the term gen z. They will always use the term Millenials. even though millennials are 40 with a kid and a mortgage to support.
Where are these jobs?! Sign me up! Is 40 too old? I grew up playing the FIRST video games, I should get dibs! I’m an expert! XD
Are you an expert at being entertaining while you play? That's the real test.
Load More Replies...One smal ldetail, though - only a few streamers achieve a notable breakthrough... and it's a pretty stressful experience as a whole. Burnout is fairly common among Twitch streamers. Also, don't forget that turning a hobby into a job ruins it, and you'll eventually grow to hate it.
I know someone who thought that playing video games as a job would be heaven...but it's hell. They no longer enjoy playing video games
I want one of those jobs but I can never find an opening I don't think they actually exist 🤔
I don't care if they work or not, but what bothers me is that their parents are stupid enough to support them so they can sit on their a$$ and their kids lazy enough to let them. Pathetic on all levels.
I agree... Video gaming should not be a real job. It doesn't contribute anything to society (besides crappy entertainment)
Load More Replies...It's not as easy as it sounds. You are turning a hobby into a job, one where the only thing you have to sell is entertainment value. You have to be entertaining enough to no only convince people to keep coming back but to then also pay/donate to support you. It can take years to build even a small following and you have to spend regular hours doing streams, and hopefully you aren't stupid enough to only make one game your bread and butter because once interest dies out so do you. One year twitch anniversary is coming up and I'm still 7 followers away from affiliate. It's especially hard to meet your goals if you don't want to be an over hyped, loud, gimmicky streamer and instead just wanna chill and enjoy a game. Love my regulars though 💕 they make me feel like I've got a chance.
From an early age, my son said he wanted a job playing video games. I told him to keep dreaming. He is now 30 and has people subscribing to his streams on Twitch….
I think there are positions out there where employees get to test out the end user experiences of games and software products. So, in other words, they get to play video games and get paid for it at the same time.
@Lakota Wolf, being 54 myself, the first video game I had was pong. I got it for Christmas out of the Sears and Roebuck catalog. I got an Atari 2600 in 8th grade.
So they want employees who are 60-70+ years old? There’s nothing inherently wrong with that age group as employees, but cashiers usually have to stand for 8 hours a day and that could be physically rough on the Baby Boomer generation. My mom is 78 and in great shape for her age and she can’t stay standing for more than a few hours without pain… OH WAIT this is a retail store, they don’t give a c**p about their employees’ health/pain! How silly of me.
While i agree the bf's (or whoever) shouldn't just stand around during their SO's whole shift, it's ridiculous to limit yourself as an employer to a particular aged employee like that...
The federal law prohibits discrimination based on age for employees 40 and older. So this is legal.
Load More Replies...So because you had "all" your gen z cashier's quit, no millennials or genxs either? I have a feeling that's not the only reason they left.
This one is tricky, the manager is annoyed but if it’s true their boyfriends shouldn’t be standing about on their shifts, that’s their workplace, it’s not a social gathering to go hang with their boyfriends when it’s quiet.
We also don't know the full situation. If the cashier's were going to be working alone and the manager can't/won't assign a coworker to be working with you in the store I'd understand wanting your boyfriend with you for safety reasons. So many crimes end up happening to solo store workers.
Load More Replies...I literally used to go to work with my mom in the 90s until I started school....and I saw a lot of her coworkers boyfriends and girlfriends showing up. I have also seen a lot of old TV shows that depicted Gen Xrs and Boomers as the same way when they were the same age. You want that minimum wage? You gonna get the teens who only care about socializing and fun.
that's an issue with the cashiers themselves, not the whole generation
So why do older generations tend to think millennials don’t make valuable contributions to the workforce? Well, one reason is the difference in mindsets. The boomer mentality tends to believe that “hard work” is based on hours worked, rather than efficiency and productivity. Boomers also grew up being told that making personal sacrifices and taking the safest routes were necessary for success. They were expected to be humble and accept any conditions necessary to provide for their families. So when young jobseekers come along with a bit more concern for their quality of life, their elders can have a hard time accepting that younger generations have decided to ask for more.
Actually the shoe company made his shoes cost $150. They pay a Chinese kid 10cents a month to make them and sell them for$150 a pair. Then b***h about social justice. Talking to you Comrade Nike bitches.
Good joke, I truly find it interesting how boomers overestimate their ability to estimate the cost of technology. If I had a nickel everytime some old fart tells me about my 1000$ phone (it cost 150$ BTW) I'd actually have the money to buy a 1000$ phone.
Load More Replies...Most of my shoes are hand-me-downs, I bought an older phone that was only a $100. I'm very frugal with my money in every aspect of my life so now I have some money saved up but does that mean I can afford a house or to have kids? Nope.
Fun fact, we never actually see the conditions people are writing these posts in. Chances are the person with all the bells and wistles think things are fine.
Bro a normal cup of coffee is 5$. That's not normal. If I want to drink coffee I shouldn't have to choose between something reasonably priced and something that tastes like a liquid ashtray.
Yes, with my five dollar gallons of milk and gas. Truly, things are made to be affordable.
Fact is that kid probabky doesn't even own his smart phone yet. He is probably still paying for it in installments cause none of is can afford to buy anything outright anymore. The main reason that "kid" probably has a smart phone in the US is because having a smart phone (and access to the internet) is practically a requirement for getting a job nowadays due to the way the US is structured. The spread of smart phones through our society was not just for our entertainment, it was to turn us into better workers. Workers that could be reached at any time by their employers. Those shoes cost $150 even though the materials to make them likely cost only about $10 and the worker who made them was likely paid less than a dollar for their labor. The rest of the money goest to the capitalist owner class who did no actual work.
As for that $5 coffee... if he is like most Americans, he likely didn't start that habit because he liked the taste of coffee. He started because he needed to wake himself up after being overworked and given no time to rest. Coffee, a stimulant drug, was introduced into our work force en masse to get workers past their physical limitations. Work demands more and more from us and coffee was something introfuced to force workers to pick their pace up. In essence, this coffe habit was inteoduced and encouraged by the capitalist owner class and our culture to push people to work harder and longer. Our expectations for jobs often makes working without the aid of this drug extremely difficult for many people. So yes... capitalism did fail him.
Load More Replies...Or employers are in for a rude awakening. Stop treating people shabbily and they'll work for you and work hard. People like being treated well... shocking eh? The cost of living thing is a massive worry but paying people badly is part of the problem. Living wage not minimum wage!! We've got people at the top taking home millions and companies making massive profits and then saying 'can't pay people better' and paying peanuts to those at the bottom. It's a lie and it's wrong. People should NOT stand for it.
Boomers (and even more so the generations before them) worked hard but were likewise rewarded with making enough to live on and afford families and their own homes - at the very least. Generations x, y, and z are expected to have the same work ethic without even a smidgen of those perks. I'm surprised it took until now for there to be a backlash to this slave master mindset corporations harbor towards their help.

Or... you could gain some worker solidarity and join some unions to take some power back. And then maybe... work with your fellow workers to restructure oir economic system entirely. It just takes some imagination, class solidarity, and hard work.
Sadly unions took away performance based wages with the state since 9/11. All or nothing so its usually nothing

I would describe them all as highly specialized document editors, essentially - in a nutshell, using a specific type of software, they receive rough transcripts from court reporters and clean them up. All of them have at least a bachelor's degree, and I know at least one has a master's degree. My sister does not require any formal education for her employees as she's willing to provide training to the right candidates, so it's just a fluke that she got all these university graduates. I just find it sad how many of us are told to go to college to get a good job, then graduate and can't find a good job, and then get told that college is a waste of money and why did they do that. There is no winning here. My grandpa quit school with a junior high education and was still able to support a middle class lifestyle for his wife and three kids. How many junior high dropouts could do that now?
Pay people enough to HAPPILY AND COMFORTABLY live their lives when not working for you. Give them enough time to enjoy the money they've worked hard for and a way to enjoy it well by again, paying them adequately. Since when in the history of anything has something responded well to ABUSE, NEGLECT, INSULT AND EXHAUSTION? I mean everyone knows if you treat and animal badly or don't water plants they just thrive and flourish. Aaaaand we're are just animals. With higher reasoning stopping us from using the sticks and clubs right away.
So if they will never own a home or have security no matter what job they do why accept a shitty job?
Don't worry about Gen Z. They make money out of things previous generations would not even consider possible!
yeap, like 0.00001% of them, who are making money form youtube, gaming, instagram and cryptos, oh wait...!!!

Load More Replies...Times have changed, and Generation Z has realized that working conditions in many places and positions could be better. It’s not that they don’t want to work, but many of them would prefer to quit a job than slave away at a minimum wage job with no benefits. Gen Z values productivity and efficiency to allow more time for relaxation and to care for their mental and physical health. As a generation that grew up in the digital age, Gen Z can also bring valuable innovations to companies mostly composed of older individuals. So before you dismiss the youth as entitled or lazy, realize that their priorities may just be different than their elders.

That looks more like an immigrant trying out/misunderstanding "networking" rather then like, a local in their 20s.

Newsflash - old people always think that young people are lazy, selfish, and without manners. This has been going on for a thousand years or more.
People complained that way in Ancient Greece, so, yeah, it's been going on for a long as there has been written documentation of it.

Most Gen Z don't realize it's the Federal Reserve that controls the wealth imbalance, and Gen Z won't act because people will get hurt in the process of trying to save more people from getting hurt over the decades by the gulag

Gen Z are being raised by Gen X and Older Millennials who were have taken the same approach to two totally different ways *they* were raised. They're overprotective and micromanaging their kids lives either to ensure the kids don't have to go through the c**p their parents did, or because they want their kids to go through *exactly* the lives they did because it worked for them. Can't really blame Gen Z for being so screwed up.

have you heard anything about working in food? i don't know if it read the same however many years ago but kids shouldn't be subjected to that
I think that's actually the difference. I have a Gen X friend who worked his way up to McManagement, and my other friend's Gen Z son has just started a McJob. Speaking to the former about the latter, he was *horrified* about how customers can treat McEmployees and that the McManagement do nothing about it. It genuinely wasn't like that when my friend worked there. It seems like rudeness and entitlement have become the norm, and service workers are bearing the brunt in a way that just wasn't done twenty years ago.

Fast food does not give you good work ethic. It reenforces the belief that working for low wages and horrible treatment is the standard of life. It helps break your spirit to be a functional member of society. Never question and place blame on those who have nothing to do with it (immigrants/minorities, rather than the people who are running these companies). I'm very pleased to see that we have a generation that is finally standing up to this in a larger portion.
Hmmmm. Because ppl wanna work and live off wages. Have livable wages.
I’m Gen X. I had a retail job. I took 2 1/2 years of abuse, belittlement, and obvious hatred from my department supervisor because I was taught to lower your nose to the grindstone, suck it up, and “just deal with it”. While that can be good advice for certain things in life, it is NOT good advice when you are in a hostile, toxic work environment. I wish I’d had the guts to quit. I applaud the younger generations who won’t put up with toxic, abusive supervisors/bosses. Maybe they can bring about a change.

One thing the pandemic taught me: companies don't give a flying f*ck for your safety and your health. And the Gen Z got the memo. What means, if they sense the work environment is toxic, they quit it in a heartbeat. Because that's what the companies will do to you: throw you under the bus for a dime.

I completely agree. I'm in gen x and live the same way. However, hope is something most rational people have given up on. As a millennial mom to a younger Gen Z, I am happy their generation is taking a stand. I worry about the future, his in particular. He's begged me for siblings since he was 5 (he's 14 now) I've literally refused to have more because of the state of the country, the environment, and the sheer inability to have faith that any kids I have will have a better life than I have this far. I am prior military, went to college, have worked many jobs, etc. Until I got married to a man who made the big bucks compared to me, I was desperately poor and my son and I suffered greatly trying to just make ends meet. F**k boomers, f**k capitalism, and f**k hustle culture.
I have been reading this thread. I am at the tail-end of being a Boomer. My employees are Gen Z. I pay them very well and treat them with respect and admiration. They both speak fluent Spanish (from Equador). I must have Spanish in my office. They would cross broken glass for me and that is because I treat them well. F**k everyone who expects to treat people like c**p and get love in return. You get back what you give out. All people who don’t work for me should get unions and push back on companies. Unions saved America
At this point every generation is full of obese, lazy, crybabies. I just always remember that I have never been berated by someone younger than me (38/m)
Don't confuse generations with political stances :) nor joblessness with generations and political stance
he can f himself. i'm a old hippy & i worked a very long time to be where i am today - unemployed and loving it.
For the most part, each generation has the worth ethic to match the compensation they're getting. Enough to buy a house and support several children is better motivation for working than barely enough for a fraction of rent and a houseplant.
That's why the older end of the boomers (and more so those that came before them) had good work ethics. It's because the lowest paying jobs in their day was enough to live on and afford families. The same can't be said for generations x, y, and z. I'm surprised it took until the Gen z-ers came of age before people stopped tolerating wage slavery.

Actually, because Gen Z has been known for their demonstrateable empathy, it's more likely that they'll be the ones who go on to break the cycle. They won't resent their kids or the next gen, they're all about loving life and supporting each other. :)

My generation is starting to come in to positions of leadership, baby boomers are still in control. I, personally, am excited by this. Gen X rebelled against the establishment, when we first started working, couldn't make any head way. We figured out that the easiest way to change the system was from inside it. I still have hope that we, as a people, can turn things around. If folks really want to affect change, run for office. Start small, try local city, or county. These positions wield a lot more power than the average person thinks. Change takes time, and is slow to move. It does move.
as a boomer; i will wish you the very best of luck d20. i sincerely hope ya'll will succeed.

We never actually demanded walk *inside* the Internet! The younger generations are crazy" The point is that old people will always criticise young people.
All this social justice is great but if you can just walk away from a job over any inconvenience & you have stability to choose that’s the dream but many people from all generations cannot take that risk. Many people are living paycheck to paycheck so just quitting a job isn’t feasible for them. There’s so many factors to consider so being like I’m walking out bye sounds romantic in story terms but if everyone did that, there would be loads of people losing their homes. That’s not something to be glorified for a Tiktok. I don’t blame one generation as every generation has good eggs & bad eggs. I’ve found in my experience at work there’s some Gen Z who are great & work & there’s some that want demands to be met that are unrealistic before they even start work. I’ve had one boy (22 M) want to do less tasks, take a longer last break to walk his dog as we were WFH & wanting to finish early because he has a thing to go to & expects to be paid the same wage but not working 9-5.
Kinda sounds like you agree some gen z people are great workers and some aren't. You know like every other generation.

I feel, however, that young people view time differently than I do ... or did when I was their age. I was always taught that you be on time, and if work starts at 8:30, it doesn't mean I'm running through the door at 8:30. It means I start working at 8:30. And if my work finishes at 5:00, that doesn't mean I'm passing through the exit gate at 5:00. It means, at the minimum, that until 5:00, I'm on site and available to answer a question. Okay, I don't insist people put their tools down at five. There IS such a thing as putting things away and winding down. Cool. Great. Just don't be in a hurry to run out the door at 5:00. Of course, I'm not on an hourly wage, but to be honest, when I WAS on an hourly wage and on the time clock, I clocked in before start time and clocked out after.
There's no way people in your age bracket didnt jump up to leave by 5. Picking up kids from daycare/after school programs, making a hobby class/group, plans with people. It is awesome to be available like you are, and a valid source of pride, but I just can't imagine its actually a yonger thing.

I'm gen X but even I know that if you want to keep your employees you need to pay them properly, not take them for granted and ensure customers are respectful.
