Share on FacebookI wish there were before pictures of the insides of the barn before the remodel. Very cool!
I'm not that keen - it's beautifully done and very modern, but looks like they just demolished the original scruffy (neither old, or impressive) redundant farm shed and build a brand new Scandinavian style house in the same size and shape.
some types of planning permission specify you have to keep the original "footprint" of the previous building

I knew a guy that did something like this with an old mechanical shop building only he didn't touch the outside. You walked through a yard full of rusty iron, opened the door, and Bam.
It's called stealth housing. There are quite a few examples in Chicago. Unoccupied warehouses are left intact on the outside and people essentially built a house inside the building.

Someone please tell me why the hell I should build 5 bathrooms in my house... Hope this is just a typo, boredpanda???
Great job and looks stunning but it's not really a renovation is it? He tore the old barn down and built a brand new property. Don't want to sound bitter though...as I said it looks amazing!
very institutional finish, but great repurposing of a structure whose time has come.
it's four bedrooms but it has five bathrooms..when did families start needing more bathrooms than people living in the home..??who the 'F' has to keep all these bathrooms clean.?? certainly not the kids..
This is no remodel. It's new construction. We do this in my state to avoid the worst of the permitting process. The new structure is nice, but it's still a box. Spend all that money, why not just bite the bullet and start from scratch.
I'd live there in a cold minute. There's too much hardscape and gravel for my taste, I'd rather have gardens and trees to soften the edges, but that's easy to do. I'd also get rid of the broadloom wherever it was because it's nothing more than a dirt catcher and it's hard to keep a house clean when it's full of carpeting. That said, the builder did exactly what I would with the space. ... Note: It would probably cost less money to tear it down and build a house from scratch.
I would love to live in this place. I would strap a pillow on my butt and learn how to roller skate again. I'm in my seventies and I hate to clean house at my age so I would just have fun wearing my new " I fell and can't get up neck disk". I love to cook and would hire a maid to clean. LOL Oh and art work of mine would be every where.
Why carpets inside?? Hardwood floors would have been 1000x better looking and more durable......
That's not a renovation- they very clearly tore the entire thing down and rebuilt it from the ground up. The old building is made from large breeze blocks and corrugated iron panels, the new one is made from house bricks and wooden panelling. It shares the same footprint as the old building, but nothing of it remains. Looks awesome though.
Very nice. I wish I had the ability to envision and create things like this.
This is more of a replacement not a restoration. So boredpanda is now featuring people who build houses for rich people.
Not sure about everything else, but his kitchen setup is wickedly expensive. So no wonder the total cost of this home.
Definitely not worth the asking price. Yes, it has a very minimalistic style to it, but it was done with sub-par finishings. The bathroom looks like a high-end prison. Why the developer even put carpet in the house boggles the mind. The carpet looks cheap, causes allergies, and is in no way a nice finish. I think the person flipped the house and got the upgrades from Ikea, CB2, and other big box stores, trying to make a huge profit. That's a no from dawg...
I can't decide if I like this or not. It lacks warmth, but that could be because it's a property for sale and no one has lived in it yet. Also, who needs that much space?
Who needs 5 bathrooms? I could imagine better stuff, like office, reading room, hobby room etc... 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms doesn't fit... we had 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and were fine. O-o
Only foundation was left, its just building new house, this is not renovation or reconstruction, this is stupid.
So basically built a new house on the concrete foundation. What a c**p post.
Abject waste of time and money. But no waste of talent because there wasn't any.
Seriously? It must've taken a lot of talent to make this home. And it's lovely! The result is very satisfying. You know what they say- if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

a barn house has always been my dream home, so i would definitely live in something like this. not crazy with the 'modern' aspects of it, but would keep it rustic country. i would LOVE to have the money to do something like this, but it would look more like your classic barn, rather than just a rectangle-shaped building
I don't like it. No, it's amazing, really. Clean and full of light. So modern and creative. And it looks sterile. Some furniture would warm it up, kids running on the lawn, plants. I'd love to see it again with those things that make it a home present.
$1.3 Million is surely overrated. House developers are complete robbers.
I'd say it's about right. The man hours to convert it, the materials look like good quality which can cost a ton. And it's a big building that looks to be 2 floors so that's even more materials. Fully furnished? Doesn't say. All the landscaping has been done. And it doesn't look like they skimped on anything. And who knows what land value in the area is. And it appears they did that garage too. Add in some profit for all that and yeah, I'd say $1.3M is about fair.
Load More Replies...Seriously tired of the bourgeois trying to pass this sterile decor and architecture as goals and luxury. And I'm not impressed by gentrification at all or by someone's ability to take advantage of it
Spoken like someone who can't afford it. Are those grapes a little sour?
Load More Replies...More likely, it wasn't insulated at all, since it was a barn.
