You did your grocery shopping, meal-prepped and managed to plan out your work lunches for the week. You're winning at life. Then Wednesday rolls around, you grab your bento box, packed with last night's pasta, fresh fruit and a whole lot of goodness. Into the office fridge it goes, as wait longingly to dig in... Lunchtime finally arrives. Your box is gone.
Far too many people can relate. That's because the world today is filled with food thieves. They think nothing of taking what's not theirs, and devouring it while your hungry stomach grumbles. A few even leave apology notes behind, or some spare change for you to buy a snack at the vending machine. The sheer audacity!
Bored Panda has put together an infuriating list of posts that prove food thievery should be considered a crime against humanity. Some might have you wanting to lock away tomorrow's lunch in a safe.

I'll never understand how people can eat food they did not bring themselves.
Food thieves are getting more and more brazen by the day. While you weep over your panini that got snatched from the office fridge, a bunch of thugs might be carrying out a massive heist that's costing someone, somewhere millions.
Not too long ago, approximately 12 tonnes of KitKat chocolate bars vanished. They were not your ordinary KitKats, though. These were 410,000 special edition Formula 1 car-shaped chocolate bars. They were en route from central Italy to Poland.
Until they weren't.

I'm horrified by these stories, people stealing each other's stuff. Surely that's illegal? I'd be bringing a non-fridge lunch and keeping it at my desk under lock and key. Can these thieves not be named and shamed?
Many may have thought it was a joke when the story started making headlines. But manufacturer Nestlé did not find it funny. The company appealed to the public and warned that the products can be traced via unique barcodes.
“While we may appreciate the criminals’ exceptional taste, this does not change the fact that cargo theft is an increasing challenge for companies of all sizes,” announced Nestlé.
It later emerged that the truck was hijacked by thieves posing as law enforcement. Forbes has called it one of the most unusual cargo thefts in Europe's recent history.

One colleague did this during a get-together. Ate all the chicken pieces from fried rice and noodles. And he shamelessly laughed about it. He was never invited again

I once brought a homemade strawberry cheesecake into the office for my birthay. It was delicate, so I just removed the edges of the cake tin and left the bottom under the cake. And my genius coworkers threw out the bottom!! Who throws out the bottom of a cake tin?!! Of course the entire tin got unusable without the bottom and my sister nearly k****d me (it was her favorite tin).

That happened in my old office all of the time. People would even steal the ground coffee. We ended up cancelling the coffee club, buying a Keurig, and telling people to bring their own beverage supplies to keep at their desks.

Well, I'm not surprised, nor should OP. Work fridges quickly get disgusting, once a week cleaning is pretty normal, if you leave your c**p in the fridge, regardless if food or containers, it gets pitched. Adults not knowing how to adult.

At my old job, a coworker ate another coworker's sandwich. When she went to the fridge and found out that her meal was not there she immediately started asking everyone if they took it. One person said "yeah it was me, next time put some tomato in it" 👀

When I first started working days at a family practice clinic, frozen meals and tv dinners would often go missing from the communal break room fridge. Turned out that the evening staff that consisted of several resident physicians presumed that these were meals provided by the clinic as a courtesy gesture for the residents.

I used to keep a big candy jar on my desk that my co-workers were free to help themselves to during the day. Frequently, almost the full jar's worth of candy would disappear overnight. The surveillance camera caught two different night custodians dumping the candy into bags, or filling their big pockets full, and once the thief was a co-worker. The co-worker's excuse was that she missed having candy over the weekend and was just taking a supply to hold her over.
