The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

This is Keanu Reeves. He was abandoned by his father at just 3-years-old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident and his best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose.

No bodyguards, no luxury houses. Keanu lives in an ordinary apartment and likes wandering around town and is often seen riding a subway in NYC. When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants, one crying as he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 - On the same day, Keanu deposited the necessary amount in his bank account.

In his career, he has donated large sums to hospitals including $75 million of his earnings from “The Matrix” to charities. In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery & bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him. In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.

In life, sometimes the ones most broken from inside are the ones most willing to help others.
This man could buy everything, but instead he wakes up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought, to be a caring person

He's down to Earth, as a man who's struggled, and dealt with many hardships in life, he emphasizes with others who are in similar situations and has compassion for them, because he knows how it is from his own experiences. Sometimes the toughest things in life happen to good people to make them stronger people, and better people.

We reached out to Ryan, the creator of “The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating” to hear how the page began and what it’s been like seeing it grow. “I created this particular page to share some of the odd and strange things you see circulating around the internet,” Ryan told us. “This page has grown to 35k likes/75k follows in just under a month. It is extremely exciting watching something grow so fast. This was also done organically and without ads.”

We also asked him how he decides what to share on the page. “I share things that I believe others want to see and that will bring new followers to my page,” Ryan says. “The odd, bizarre and strange things are what I’m usually drawn to.” And clearly, based on the growth of the page, he’s not the only one who enjoys learning about weird things.

The dog seems to be a Turkish Sivas Kangal dog. They are specşially bread to protect against wolf packs. The breed has the most astonishing characteristics and although not trained to protect sheep they see it as their duty. You may be upset when I say the ears are clipped and a nail studded collar is used on the dogs. It is for their protection since the wolves go for the ears and neck.

The Kangal dogs intuitively protect women and children. They move as an organised unit to attack wolves and it is said it is not possible to train them. https://www.dailysabah.com/turkey/chips-ids-to-protect-legendary-kangal-dogs-of-turkey/news

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

The Greek government has decided to legally ban overweight tourists from receiving rides from donkeys. The ruling comes after animal rights groups garnered media attention surrounding the poor treatment of the donkeys, which included carrying burdensome loads.

The law was created after animal rights groups complained about spinal injuries and open wounds that the donkeys suffered from due to carrying heavier tourists.

Likewise, I'm 5'11 with shoes and 5'10 without shoes. My height alone would be hard enough for these animals to bare, but I'm also over 300 pounds, so I'm pretty f****n overweight to say the least. I know this, which is why my fatass wouldn't even think about getting on a horse, camel, donkey, bull, any kind of animal, because I know I would more than likely hurt/strain, maybe even damage the animal. We're no different when we give things like piggy-back rides and such to our friends, we know how strenuous that can be; just imagine if it was someone even heavier than what we can already handle. That's what these poor animals go through daily. These people have alot of nerve.

Sorry..I'm an overweight lady and I would never put a poor animal through the burden of carrying me...not even if it was a Camel or the largest Clydesdale. They were not meant to be tortured. Any owner of any establishment that puts their animals through this should be removed from the position and never allowed around animals again.

Unfortunately the money is more important to the villagers. They need to support families. You can get another animal. Not my view but that of many poor people who don't have another way to support themselves in areas rich with tourists and too many little shops. Not a lot different than the people who abuse animals on farms, in mines and many other instances.

You're right, this broad in the picture knew how heavy she was, and knew how hard it'd be on the donkey, but she didn't give a s**t because she knew if she hadn't gone on the donkey ride she wasn't gonna make it that much farther 😏 Should of stayed behind at the hotel if that was the case.

When I was a kid in the San Francisco Bay Area, an amusement park called "Frontier Village" had a donkey ride. A lady in our party who weighed about 500 pounds decided to ride despite the 250-pound limit. The donkey fell to its knees and screamed. It had to be pulled from rotation.

When it comes to why Ryan enjoys sharing these posts, he told us, “I believe sharing these interesting stories keeps social media fresh and engaging. It also helps the younger audience engage as we do not post monotonous political posts or paid ads.” Lastly, Ryan wanted to add that right now he has a “total audience of 3 million followers spread out across several pages”, but his audience was even larger at one time. He went on to explain, “In 2019, I had a singular page with approximately 6.5 million followers that was disabled due to wrongly assigned community standards violations. It has been an extremely difficult battle rebuilding my audience after that happened.” While starting back at square one must have been devastating, Ryan clearly is a pro at what he does, given the traction this page is already getting. Sadly, this giant wolf-dog was dumped at a kill shelter after growing too large and becoming too much of a burden on the owner. Thankfully, a sanctuary took him instead and saved his life! His DNA testing came back as 87.5% Gray Wolf, 8.6% Siberian Husky and 3.9% German Shepherd. Wow!

Do not have wolf hybrids like this. A friend of my brothers had an animal like this that was 95% wolf named Cinder because he was all black. The poor thing tried escaping several times...each time my brother's friend had to retrieve him on his own because animal control said if they came out to help him, they'd put the animal down.

Stupid people thinking they need something great to assert themselves as "big", "strong" or whatever without any knowledge of the needs of these creatures. Same goes for people who buy dogs from puppy-mills or breeds who can't live a normal life anymore because they can't breathe or their eyes fall out of their heads due to misbreedings. It makes me so sick.

Breeding and owning a wolf hybrid should be illegal. You are creating an animal torn between worlds, expecting it to suppress thousands of years of instincts. That struggle leads to confusion, fear, and ultimately aggression... which the animal will be blamed for, but is the human's fault.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

At age 17, Juliane Koepcke was sucked out of an airplane after it was struck by lightning. She fell over 2 miles to the ground still strapped to her plane seat and somehow lived. She then had to endure a 9-day walk through the Amazon jungle before eventually being rescued by loggers. She was the sole survivor of LANSA Flight 508 that killed 93 people in December 1971.

That fall must have been absolutely awful. I'm guessing here, but I imagine it would have taken around two minutes, which is a long time to spend in absolute terror. It's certainly a remarkable story of survival in a tragedy that saw 93 lives lost. I don't blame her for not smiling. I wouldn't be either.

Read a story about her. She also did this while injured and maggots' started to invade her wound. At the loggers camp, she poured gas on her wounds until the loggers came back to the tent and took her to a hospital then they were able to contact her father.

Fun fact: maggots only consume dead tissue. She may have been saved from gangrene resulting in amputation or death by those maggots. Additional fun fact: blood-letting has been thoroughly discredited as a cure-all (rightly so) but treatment by leeches for specific health issues has made a comeback. Our ancestors made a lot of mistakes. Doesn’t mean there’s nothing to learn in terms of treatment that isn’t based on drugs.

I went and saw this in person when it was washed ashore in Newcastle, Australia. The weather that week was insane. They had security stopping people from going onto the beach but you could get within a couple hundred metres from it and even from that distance it towered over you. I, like all the young uni students of Newie at the time, have a photo of me grinning, hair blowing into my face, in front of it. In my photo there is a little backhoe on the beach which is reminiscent of the little digger that couldn't in recent photos of the MV Evergiven lol.

The phenomenon of being drawn to odd and mysterious things is not new. “Freak shows'' were popular components of traveling shows in Europe and America throughout the Victorian period. These shows starred people with various unique physical features that captivated and confused audiences. Anything from being extraordinarily tall or short to being a woman with a beard could draw great crowds. Long before we had the internet and countless books at our disposal to learn about and see images of things we don’t encounter in our everyday lives, these “freak shows” were mind-blowing. Of course, we live in a much different time today. We have much better education about disabilities and unique physical features, and thankfully, it is now unacceptable to mock these things. But our human tendency to find fascination in things we do not understand lives on.

"If I don't make it, please call my family and let them know how much I love them."

Todd Beamer was just 32 years old when his flight was hijacked by terrorists on 9/11. A passenger on United Airlines Flight 93, Beamer was forced to think quickly. He first tried calling AT&T, but both of his calls were terminated upon connection. Beamer then attempted to call his wife, but that call was also terminated. Finally, he contacted Airfone operators and was able to connect with a supervisor named Lisa Jefferson. While on the line, he pleaded with Jefferson to tell his pregnant wife and two sons that he loved them, but he also outlined a heroic plan to fight back against the hijackers alongside his fellow passengers and the flight crew. And that's exactly what he did.

I have a mixed breed that's about half the size. The breed is super affectionate, but they often play a bit rough and like to ruin furniture. I wouldn't trade mine though. There's nothing like a cat that genuinely loves people. They're also pretty intelligent. I trained mine to come when his name is called, which is incredible for a cat.

One popular way to seek out a topic few of us understand is by learning about true-crime stories. One might think learning about real-life atrocities would lead us to live in fear, but many of us actually find these stories exciting. Psychologist Dr. Chivonna Childs told the Cleveland Clinic, “Watching true crime doesn’t make you strange or weird. It’s human nature to be inquisitive. True crime appeals to us because we get a glimpse into the mind of a real person who has committed a heinous act.” Whether it’s John Wayne Gacy Jr. or Ted Bundy, hearing about someone who is capable of committing such gruesome crimes is almost beyond belief; we can’t help but be intrigued.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

By the time she was 17, Judy Garland was already reliant on "pep pills," a.k.a. amphetamines, and was being hounded by studio executives regarding her weight and looks. One executive called her a fat hunchback and encouraged her to smoke in order to suppress her appetite.

Garland's grueling work schedule — coupled with a strict diet of black coffee, chicken soup, and cigarettes imposed upon her by her Hollywood bosses — set the stage for her lifetime of body dysmorphia and substance abuse. The star attempted suicide at least 20 times in her life until her fatal overdose at 47.

Not to mention the casual racism. Hattie McDaniel, the first black woman to receive and Oscar for her performance in Gone With The Wind, wasn't even allowed inside the building except to accept her award and give a short speech, then she had to leave again. That is just one of many examples of how "normal" that kind of racism was back then.

There is a lot more to her story than just this short write up but ultimately, it was her mother's fault because her mother knew the abuse was happening but allowed it because she wanted the wealth that her daughter's hard work and fame brought. During all those years when she was still underaged, her mother could have stopped all this at any time but she chose not to. https://www.quora.com/Was-the-actress-Judy-Garland-seriously-mistreated-by-executives/answer/Melia-Janssen

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

In October 1983, Tami Oldham Ashcraft and her fiancé, Richard Sharp, began a 4,000-mile sailing trip from Tahiti to San Diego. Three weeks into the journey, they were hit by a category 4 hurricane that capsized their ship and knocked Ashcraft unconscious.

Some 27 hours later, she awoke to find that her fiance was gone and she was stranded alone in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. With only a sextant and watch, Ashcraft journeyed for 41 days until she found the coast of Hawaii.

Mr. Ballen has a video on this. During the storm the boat flipped over and it caused Tami to hit her head. When she woke up after two days she found an atlas and navigated her way back living on peanut butter. When she got back she had to learn how to read and write again because of hitting her head. After that she wrote a best selling book.

Interestingly enough, true-crime stories also appeal disproportionately to women. But Dr. Childs says that it makes sense, considering that women are statistically more likely to be the victims of violent crime. “We want to watch true-crime in part to learn how to avoid being a victim,” she says. “It can teach us to be prepared in case we’re ever in that situation.” While it’s impossible to predict how any of us would react when confronted with a violent attacker (a situation hopefully none of us every find ourselves in!), I’d like to think that the hundreds of documentaries, podcasts and videos I’ve ingested featuring true-crime tales would do me some good.

Fun Fact: this species is sexually dimorphic, meaning the males look different from the females. This is a male, and his face looks like that because his cheeks are resonating chambers, designed to amplify his vocalizations. Females look like normal fruit bats. And yes, these guys are fruit bats, consuming a diet consisting mostly of figs, mangoes, and bananas. Not-so-fun Fact: they are considered both crop pests and nocturnal noise pests, and are viciously hunted in the native habitats. As such, this one...is not alive, and will most likely be consumed as part of someone's dinner.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

By the age of 12, Drew Barrymore was already a self-described "party girl" — thanks to her mom who took her to nightclubs in Los Angeles and New York. By the time she turned 14, she had spent a year in rehab, been emancipated from her parents, and lived in her own apartment.

There appears to be some perspective trickery going on here. Look at the grass near the car wheel - It appears as though the lawn is on a higher plane than street, meaning that the eagle is closer to the camera than it appears.

yup, same with many of these 'see how large they are!' pictures. The eagle is much closer than it appears. Big birds, but not that big.

When it comes to the kind of media many of us are interested in, true stories via documentaries and podcasts have become insanely popular in recent years. Podcasts like Serial, My Favorite Murderer, The Dropout and Swindled have gained massive audiences, all by detailing stories that seem too outlandish to be true. Documentaries have also taken over streaming platforms, with Tiger King becoming the most watched show on Netflix for over 3 weeks in a row upon its release. Audiences are hungry for documentaries about anything that's mysterious to us, including celebrities. Some popular documentaries focusing on the lives of celebrities are Hulu’s The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears and Netflix's Miss Americana and The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.

This is Simo Häyhä, the deadliest sniper in world history with over 500 confirmed kills in less than 100 days. He used no scope on his rifle and once held off over 4,000 Soviets with only 31 other Finns.

Over the course of the Winter War, which lasted roughly 100 days, Häyhä killed between 500 and 542 Russian soldiers, all with his antiquated rifle. While his comrades were using state-of-the-art telescopic lenses to zoom in on their targets, Häyhä was fighting with an iron sight, which he felt gave him a more precise target.

That's what I was thinking when I heard about some countries wanting to join the NATO all of a sudden, like Sweden. "Suomi's gonna be fine, they already perfected the art of kicking russian a$$". Nothing against the russian people, it must be frustrating to not be able to do anything about the propaganda and their war-mongering soziopath of a president.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

In 2005, researchers discovered a phallus-shaped stone object buried in a cave in a German mountain, measuring eight inches long and three centimeters wide. Upon closer inspection, experts realized that they were looking at the world's oldest known dildo. Created approximately 28,000 years ago, this sex toy is older than civilization, religion, and marriage combined.

The Hohle Fells Phallus. The dimensions given in the abstract of the paper on it are 19.2cm long, 3.8cm width. It also has wear marks indicating use as a hammerstone, which is a tool used to work other stones. It was also reconstructed from 14 pieces scattered in the cave. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/288591949_A_phallus-shaped_stone_tool_from_gravettian_deposits_at_the_Hohle_Fels_cave_and_the_interpretation_of_paleolithic_sexual_imagery

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Harry Haft was just a teenager when he was sent to Auschwitz. Once he arrived, the Nazi guards found out that he had some boxing experience — so they ordered him to fight his fellow prisoners in harrowing boxing matches where the loser would be executed. Forced to literally fight for his life, Haft never lost a single match, even though he would have known many of his opponents because the Nazis regularly sent people from the same town to the same concentration camps. From 1943 to 1945, he was forced to fight at least 76 people, none of whom he ever saw alive again.

Only in April 1945 did Haft manage to escape during a death march away from the camp — by killing a Nazi soldier and stealing his uniform. Haft then spent weeks running from village to village. Trained to fight to the death, he even killed an elderly couple who offered him shelter after he suspected they'd discovered that he wasn't really a Nazi. By the time he made it to Allied-controlled Germany, he weighed only 110 pounds and spent the next two years recovering in a refugee camp. But by 1947, he decided to fight again and immigrated to America to become a professional boxer — where he took on some of the biggest names in the sport.

Time Magazine’s Judy Berman broke down “docu-mania” in a piece last year, analyzing the rapid rise of true stories on streaming platforms. She addressed the fact that there used to be a stigma around documentaries, with audiences assuming they are more like text books on a screen than riveting stories. But recently, and even more fueled by the pandemic, we are devouring documentaries faster than ever before. The Hollywood Reporter even stated that, “Access to archival footage, remote post-production capabilities and even teleconference interviews mean audiences are likely to see several docuseries born out of COVID-19’s binding circumstances.” Desperate to piece together what audiences were begging for, studios began digging up everything they could to pump out compelling, never-before-heard tales.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Accused of murdering two white girls in 1944 without a shred of physical evidence, 14-year-old George Stinney Jr. became the youngest person in U.S. history ever executed in the electric chair

When he was put to death, he was so small that the state electrician struggled to adjust an electrode to his right leg. Stinney even needed to sit on a phone book for the electrocution to work properly. He then survived the first round of 2,400 volts, which caused his oversized mask to slip off and expose his tears. It took two more jolts before he was dead with the room reeking of burning flesh.

THIS is so damned disgusting ... death penalty itself is disgusting at maximum level already, but it needs us to memorize even worse cases within this worst of them all, to recognize the evil and, literally, final entitlement, in those enforcing or justifying this act of needless cruelty - over and over again, thousands of times a year.

When people say they don't like "CRT", this is what they're talking about. They don't want to learn this sort of history that CLEARLY shows how racist systems hurt and killed Black people. There are no equivalent stories of this happening to a white child. That's not an accident.

Disgusting from a supposedly civilized society. That poor innocent child. Prosecutors who knowingly put an innocent person in prison and get caught doing so should have to take the punishment they inflicted on their victim. Might make them think twice before doing this c**p.

Not only was there no evidence he had an alibi and the victims had been dragged to where they were found and he would not have been able to do that. His mother did not dare campaign and fight for his release because she had other children and she thought if she made too much of a fuss something could happen to them too.

The worst thing about this is that, despite him confessing (probably because back then, racism was rife and it would have been a "black boys" word against white people) There is in fact, evidence that would suggest he was innocent. Humanity disgusts me often. :/

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

In March of 1993, photographer Kevin Carter captured this haunting photograph of a vulture stalking a young Sudanese girl, who was reduced to a skeletal state because of the country’s famine. Carter won the Pulitzer Prize for the photo, but a short time after, he tragically ended his own life.

“The parents of the children were busy taking food from the plane, so they had left their children only briefly while they collected the food. This was the situation for the girl in the photo taken by Carter. A vulture landed behind the girl. To get the two in focus, Carter approached the scene very slowly so as not to scare the vulture away and took a photo from approximately 10 meters. He took a few more photos before chasing the bird away”.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

On September 30, 1999, Hisashi Ouchi was exposed to the highest dose of nuclear radiation in human history. A 35-year-old lab technician at the nuclear plant in Tokaimura, Japan, Ouchi was mixing a uranium solution by hand directly over an open container when he accidentally poured in too much uranium, immediately causing a violent explosion.

For the next 83 days, Ouchi suffered unimaginable agony as the radiation worked its way through his body, obliterating his DNA and causing his skin to melt off and his eyes to weep blood before he finally died. And though he begged for death, doctors refused to listen and kept him alive against his will for nearly three excruciating months.

It is extremely important to understand that the doctors had no choice. They were legally obligated by law to keep him alive unless he himself asked to be euthanized, which he never did. After Ouchi last consciousness, only his family had the ability to allow his euthanasia. They refused to sign the papers and asked the doctors to continue with treatments. Many of the doctors and nurses thought it was unethical to continue Ouchi’s suffering and some were even disgusted by they had no choice, they were forced. They even had the family members come in to see Ouchi every day to show them that his condition was only deteriorating and convince them to sign the papers to end his suffering. So point is, the doctors shouldn’t be the one to blame. The family were blindsided but they shouldn’t take all of the blame either. It was ultimately Japanese law that caused this, which is unfortunate, because literally nothing could have been done by the doctors. Source: https://qr.ae/pvCbgI

"Why the f**k would they keep him alive with good conscience." Because he never "begged for death." The only thing he had been saying was that he wanted to be able to go home. His family refused to authorize pulling life support in hopes that at the very least, he would be stable enough to pass away at home to honor his wishes.

His family demanded the treatment to continue. Doctors recommended a shorter less painful exit, but the family wouldn't listen. Also doctors later publicly admitted that they had little idea of what else to do as none of even remotely similar had ever happened in their professional careers.

Paul Jenkins wrote a list of “Reasons Why Documentaries Are Important” for Brilliantio, and many of them align perfectly with why “The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating” page is so successful. The first reason being the classic idea that “truth is stranger than fiction”. Many of the stories featured on the Facebook page sound unbelievable. And while many of them are tragic or harrowing, we can’t help but be captivated by them. Much like documentaries, “The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating” also conveys a “kaleidoscope of humanity”, allowing readers to learn about how diverse our world and all the people in it are.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Former NFL star Pat Tillman was hailed as a hero in 2004 after he was "killed by the Taliban." But it was a lie — he'd been killed by friendly fire. And while the shooting has since been described as accidental, some believe it was intentionally planned by the U.S. Army.

Not only was Tillman shot three times in the head, but he was also shot at close range and it was later determined that the Army had lied about his unit being ambushed by the enemy. Eerily, all of Tillman's personal items had been burned — including his uniform and private journals. On top of that, rumors had surfaced that he was about to go public about his opposition to the invasion of Iraq and the War on Terror with a televised meeting with Noam Chomsky. But this meeting would never happen.

I believe the friendly fire, but not the assassination. Had the government wanted him killed, they have people far better at making it look like a combat death than what happened in this situation.

There is a lot more to this story. A lot more bad. I am not sure all of the conspiracies are true, but the contempt he and his family received from the military is a matter of record. Including something about him being an atheist, or at least not religious. It's been a long time, but I remember following the story as both an atheist and an ex-soldier myself.

He served with his brother, but there was an immediate blanket order of silence on the screw-up that led to him being killed, which meant that his brother was still standing shoulder to shoulder with the guys who knew they had accidentally killed Tillman, but weren't allowed to tell him.

“They couldn’t get shoes on him because his feet had swelled up,” she recalled. “They had to cut up the formal wear, too, because they couldn’t get it on him, there wasn’t a whole body to put it on.”

In 1986, firefighter Vasily Ignatenko heroically responded to the radioactive fires caused by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station explosion. He put most of the fires out in a couple of hours, but spend far too long near the radiation. After several weeks of suffering, he would die from his exposure. After his death, Ignatenko's body was so radioactive, he had to be buried under layers of zinc and concrete in order to protect the public from his corpse.

Let's not forget this was before the iron curtain came down and the USSR was still a communist regime. I remember a friend telling me about local workmen who agreed to go in return for a washing machine for their family, knowing it meant death.

My family lived in Czechoslovakia, which was also under the Iron curtain. People had no idea that something happened, it was kept secret. They learned about Chernobyl after revolution in 1989.

A similar fate happened to Richard C. Legg when the SL-1 reactor had a meltdown. They found his body impaled to the ceiling by a fuel rod and his corpse was so radioactive that they had to bury him in a secluded part of Arlington Cemetery, with strict orders that the grave not be disturbed without prior approval of the Atomic Energy Commission.

Also his pregnant wife spent time with him when he was dying and her unborn child soaked up all the radiation, saving her life but only surviving a few hours outside the womb. She later had a son and they lived in Kiev. So I hope they are okay.

Radioactive accidents on this level never happened before Chernobyl... They probably had little to no clue on how to treat it. This was the 80s. They probably didn't know what to do. True radiation death isn't pretty. Its not comic books where you get "powers". You die a slow painful death. I knew that as a kid. My own Dad worked at a nuclear planet when I was very young. I even visited one, they had a tourist center. Little kid friendly learn about nuclear power stuff. It was on site near said power planet.

They do if exposed to enough neutron radiation. It's not like they didn't have radiation detectors so I imagine they would have known if the body was radioactive or not.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

In 1989, Billy Idol threw a three-week-long party in his penthouse at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. All the sex, drugs, and property damage eventually prompted the hotel to hit Idol with a $250,000 bill.

But when he still refused to leave, the military had to be called in to corral the British rocker. Idol was shot with a tranquilizer dart and hauled out on a stretcher before he would finally stop partying.

Believe me only the "good parts" are told. The amount of people who overdosed in the 80s is not told. I know few people in Ibiza that live through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and the ones that are still alive are brain dead. I worked in clubs the end of the 80s and 90s. Most of the people I worked with are lucky to be able to hold a job if they've made it to 50. I can count at least 10 people I knew that died before 40.

The 80s were definitely fun, but there were plenty of worries too. AIDS was raging, crack and meth were becoming mainstream drugs, serial killers were more prolific. We did have awesome music, and the party atmosphere was great, used to go clubbing all the time. Had a blast

Another feature of documentaries and the posts shared on this Facebook page are the opportunities to give faces to names. As exciting as podcasts and books are, it’s nice to have visual elements alongside the stories. A photo really is worth a thousand words and can add so much to a compelling story. These images can also help audiences better understand worlds they think they know. For example, unflattering and heartbreaking images of late celebrities right before they passed are very different from the images of them typically shown in the media. Of course, it’s great to celebrate how they were at their best, but especially when tackling topics like addiction, audiences should see the reality of a situation.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Near the end of his life, Bob Marley was told by a doctor that he had "more cancer in him than I've seen with a live human being," and that he only had a few months to live, so "he might as well go back out on the road and die there."

Three years earlier, the reggae icon had been diagnosed with melanoma under his toenail in 1977. Doctors removed the nail and the nail bed, but Marley refused to have the toe itself amputated to stop the spread of the disease, insisting that it violated his Rastafarian religious beliefs. By 1980, the cancer had spread throughout his body, infecting his liver, lungs, and even his brain. Marley played his last show on September 30, 1980, in Pittsburgh, performing Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" during the soundcheck to the bemusement of his roadies, who didn't know anything was wrong. He died eight months later at the age of 36.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

“4 days ago, a group of friends and I went to Murree together. We were having a walk through the Murree Hills at 2 or 3am and this happened. All of us were together. One friend asked to take a group photo of us, and took it with flash because there was low to zero lighting. When i went through my pictures later on, I was shocked to see a person standing right behind one of my friends. He had a pale white face and if you close in on his legs you can see it look as if it is not of human. None of us knew the person 3rd from the left.”

“Not human” is a bit extreme. If the photo is authentic, it may have been a hermit or homeless person that photobombed you. With that large of a group, it would be easy to just assume a person beside you is just one of the guys.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

When Joe Pichler was just six years old, he made his acting breakthrough with a commercial for a Seattle department store. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles, where he landed a part in 1999's "Varsity Blues" before earning a leading role in two installments of the "Beethoven" franchise.

Pichler then moved back to his hometown of Bremerton, Washington to attend high school and had plans to return to Hollywood after he had his braces removed — but he never got the chance. In the early morning hours of January 5, 2006, Pichler mysteriously vanished, and police have been unable to solve his disappearance to this day.

He may have ended up in the water. Bremerton is where a Naval Base is located. A good portion of the area is surrounded by water from the Puget Sound and the easiest way in and out of the area are large ferries. It's very easy to fall off those ferries never to be seen again. There are also areas where cliffs are unstable and can create rock slides in a split second. If he got caught in one of these, he may have been buried alive with no one being the wiser.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

In 1993, lawyer Garry Hoy fell 24 floors to his death while demonstrating the tensile strength of his office windows to a group of visiting law students. Far from being an unusual incident, body-checking window safety was his signature - and fatal - move.

Hoy's regular practice of hurling himself at window panels in front of onlookers and harmlessly bouncing off ended disastrously when it accidentally popped the glass out of its frame and sent "one of the best and brightest" lawyers plunging from the skyscraper.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Between 2000 and 2003, biologist Amie Huguenard spent three summers in Alaska with her boyfriend Timothy Treadwell studying and filming grizzly bears. Treadwell, who was better known as the "Grizzly Man," had met Huguenard during a book tour in 1996 and the pair had instantly bonded over their love of animals. But then, in October 2003, the couple was brutally mauled and eaten by a half-ton bear that attacked them at their camp. And the audio of their horrifying final moments was captured on tape.

Honestly, I never understood these kind of people. You know is dangerous, you know it can kill you, but you are still going with it. Especially with animals.Even the thousands years domesticated ones can kill you, in given circumstances, but you are gambling with the wild ones in plus....

For a guy who 'knows' grizzly bears he sure did everything wrong on his final trip. Stayed too late going into hibernation season, camping right in the middle or the bear track, knew it was a bad season for the bears feeding going into hibernation, had witnessed many acts of unusual aggression between the bears. He thought he and the bears had some spiritual connection and he was seen as one of them. Sorry, it was his own fault (not his girlfriends)

Totally. He knew he was pushing things past any even vague concept of safe but he was convinced the rules didn't apply to him because the bears would never ever hurt HIM because they were connected.

I admire Treadwell's passion for wanting to protect bears and educate the public about them, but he was also reckless and refused to listen to reason when it came to documenting them. Watch the documentary "Grizzly Man" by Werner Herzog.

Hopefully it never is released. Kevin Sanders, Bearman of Yellowstone has supposedly heard about 2 minutes of the 6 minute tape and mentions that: "There are several ways to determine whether one of these recordings is real or not. Just recently I was given access to the first 2 minutes of the 6 minute tape. There are two sounds that have not been published that are unmistakeable and have been missing in each fake tape that I have heard. All fake recordings so far have been under 3 minutes in length and the real tape is 6 minutes. As I reported above in my investigation the bear is nearly silent. Bears typically make very little sounds, and each fake recording has the sound of a bear roaring, growling, and making all sorts of noises. In movies, bear noises are dubbed in electronically." He also has quite a bit of detail of what he thinks happened which is interesting and just overall sad especially when you think of Amie. http://www.yellowstone-bearman.com/Tim_Treadwell.html

There is a very good documentary about this tragic story. It is called, not surprisingly Grizzly Man and is directed by the great filmmaker Werner Herzog. One unforgettable scene that I can not get out of my mind is when Herzog meets a relative of Treadwell and hears the recording.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Rescuing live climbers from the Death Zone on Mount Everest is risky enough, and removing their bodies is almost impossible. Many unfortunate mountaineers remain exactly where they fell, frozen in time forever to serve as macabre milestones for the living.

One body that every climber en route to the summit must pass is that of “Green Boots,” who was one of the eight people killed on the mountain during a blizzard in 1996.

The corpse, which received its name because of the neon green hiking boots it wears, lies curled up in a limestone cave on Mount Everest’s Northeast ridge route. Everyone who passes through is forced to step over his legs in a forceful reminder that the path is still treacherous, despite their proximity to the summit.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

On the morning of May 25, 1979, six-year-old Etan Patz convinced his mom to let him walk to the bus stop alone. When she got the call later that day that Etan never made it to school, her legs gave out from under her. His face soon appeared at breakfast tables around the U.S. as he became the original missing milk carton kid — but Etan was never seen alive again. However, after nearly 40 years of searching, Etan's case has finally been closed.

From wiki "Decades later, it was determined that Patz had been abducted and murdered the same day that he went missing. The case was reopened in 2010 by the Manhattan District Attorney's office. In 2012, the FBI excavated the basement of the alleged crime scene near the Patz residence but discovered no new evidence. Pedro Hernandez—a suspect who confessed—was charged and indicted later that year on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping."

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

On July 3, 1971, Jim Morrison's girlfriend Pamela Courson found the rock star unconscious and immobile in the bathroom of their Paris apartment. Before long, The Doors frontman was declared dead of heart failure, thought to be brought on by a heroin overdose.

In the years after Morrison's death, Courson's own addictions grew rapidly worse. She often described herself as "Jim Morrison's wife" — despite the fact that they had never married — and sometimes even delusionally claimed that he was about to call her. Nearly three years later, she suffered the same fate as The Doors frontman — and died at age 27 of a heroin overdose just like him.

I whole heartedly believe to this day that Jim was killed from the injury that he received falling off a roof a few days before he left for Paris. He was ill in Paris, coughing up blood, spells of weakness ect. Jim never used downers and was terrified of heroin, it frequently being an issue in him and Pam's relationship. Yet everywhere it states that he died of an overdose, without a single shred of evidence, drives me insane.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Before becoming the LSD-fueled hippie guru who defined the 1960s and '70s, Ram Dass was a stuffy academic named Richard Alpert. While working as an assistant professor of clinical psychology at Harvard, Alpert had a fateful meeting with LSD pioneer Timothy Leary, and together they embarked upon a series of mind-altering and controversial experiments.

In 1962, Alpert and Leary conducted the famous "Good Friday Experiment," history's first controlled study of the connection between psychedelic drugs and mystical experiences, right inside the chapel at Boston University. The experiment got both men fired from Harvard, prompting Alpert to take a spiritual journey to India that saw him reinvent himself as the guru "Ram Dass" — and made him an icon of the hippie movement.

On June 8, 2018, 61-year-old celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was found dead at a hotel in France, ruled suicide by hanging. Despite his massive success and role in exposing the unsavory secrets of the culinary underworld, the "original rock star" of the kitchen struggled with his own demons.

Bourdain's past heroin addiction may have been resolved, but his mental health continued to trouble him. He often discussed death, suicide, depression, and a darkness he couldn't shake, leading him to choose what experts called an "impulsive act."

Strangely enough, the bizarre 2006 film ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ was actually based on the folklore story of Sawney Bean, the head of an inbred cannibal family.

Legend maintains that for over 25 years, Sawney Bean and his incestuous family of cannibalistic children terrorized medieval Scotland. According to folklore, the family would descend upon unsuspecting travelers and then dismember, pickle, and devour them. Some estimate that the family cannibalized up to 1,000 people — until one man escaped and told King James VI.

I've seen some astonishingly well done ones that you'd never know were colorized if you didn't know what to look for.

Myra Hindley and Ian Brady loved eachother deeply, don't see the media brushing their crimes under the carpet and making them out to be Romeo and Juliet.

one of the reasons these two media of the times sensations wasn't because of their multiple escapes from police or their so called love story as they were both twisted individuals. what made the public interested and, in a way, support them was they communicated with law enforcement regularly to express themselves which papers picked up and published when possible. it was so because this was happening during/after the major crash of '29 and they were known to not steal from the 'average joe' but pick on banks and other 'big businesses' of the time.

While HE robbed a few banks without her, together, together they robbed and killed small business owners.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Some are now getting "bridge piercings" on their noses so they can wear frameless glasses.

Would that not hurt if you rub your eyes or something and accidently twang them?

I cringe when I look at this, and then I remember the two indentations either side of the bridge of my nose caused by wearing glasses for the last quarter of a century. I also have indentations from the arms above my ears. My glasses are gradually being absorbed into my body!!!

Why not just wear regular glasses? This makes me cringe, looks super painful to get.

    The Odd, Mysterious & Fascinating

Though Jesus is typically portrayed as a white man with long locks, researchers have harnessed the power of forensic anthropology to reconstruct what the Christian Messiah may have actually looked like.

The accompanying pic looks western and white. I think they have linked the wrong pic.

No way did he have blue eyes and skin that pale. If Jesus was a real person I'd expect brown eyes and much darker skin.

Jesus would have had a much darker skin tone and dark hair. The western world needs to get over it.

No way he was close to be white. His portrait of a white-blue-eyed-blond-hair person was made up by catholic church centuries after his supposedly life-time, to get him accepted by europeans. Just imagine, a brown-skinned, Mediterranean figure will never gain the acceptance of a Savior.

A lot of times I think that the church was racist at times.
