When people see my illustrations, they ask if I created them using a computer – my answer is “NO”. I use a steady hand, a T-square, pencil and pen & ink pen.

I’m Susan Castriota, I combine my years of expertise in architecture, fashion and graphic design to create realistic depictions of city skylines, historic buildings and private homes. My illustrations attract commissions from major corporations as well as individuals. I designed an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree and illustrated a series of greeting cards of Washington, DC landmarks.

I was devastated when I saw the iconic spire of my beloved Notre-Dame Cathedral collapse in the April 2019 fire. I recalled as an art student studying and drawing the classic piece of Gothic architecture. As a loving tribute, I felt the need to capture the majestic Cathedral as I so fondly remembered it on my many visits to Paris. The Pen& Ink portrait of Notre-Dame was started in May, 2019 and finished in August, 2019. I video-taped and photographed my artistic journey. At times, I felt over whelmed with the fine details and perspective of the building that I questioned my abilities to complete it, but I persevered and I am glad I did!
