Nearly two years ago I had an idea! For many years people have been asking if I did caricatures as part of my art repertoire. I used to say “No”, until that fateful day back in 2015 when I took the leap to do an ongoing project called Celebrity Sunday. It was in part an attempt to strengthen my digital art skills and motivate me to speed the process up. I typically took days to render out an image, and so thought a project that “had” to be completed in a day was the answer; “Celebrity Sunday” was born.

Now, every Sunday (with rare exceptions) I take to my computer and start the day with the attempt to render out a known star with the restrictions of it needing to be completed on that Sunday. So far, so good.

The project has now even taken on board the vintage angle, as many were asking to see if I can render in black and white. The project has helped me in many ways, as can be seen from the comparison between my first caricature (Will Smith) to my 100th (Johnny Depp). I have been able to get more detail in a shorter time. Made my strokes and use of digital art more expressive and created a project that has started to get some following. I even had Ron Perlman use my caricature as his profile image on Facebook.

I can’t show all the caricatures here, but you will see a miniatures montage of the caricatures I have done. The nice thing is it has led onto some other nice projects as seen further down. I have also included a video showing the process I did doing J.D.Salinger. I do a competition each week to see who can guess the caricature as it’s being painted. Everyone is welcome to join in, and there is a giveaway at the end!!

If you ask me which was my favourite to do, well I guess it had to be…John Lennon! To see more then you will find the full galleries on my site; http://bit.ly/robsnow_EU.
