Sometimes the bat cracks and the broken end goes flying into the stands. There are usually nets up to stop the crowd from getting hit, but sometimes, especially in smaller venues, there are some spaces that foul balls and flying bats can get through. It's pretty rare that a bat flies into the stands.

Even if this kid was briefly texting his mom at just the wrong moment, it's a extremely common and provable thing for kids/millennials to be screen addicted. Thus, at first glance, its completely reasonable to assume the possibility that the kid isn't paying attention to the game, even if it can be proven otherwise in this specific case.

This should be a lesson to young and old alike. Put the damn phone down and be aware of the world around you. I realize this boy is is young, but young boys used to be into actual sports and could display a semblance of natural reflexes. He is blessed that his dad came up before phones ruled people's lives. Another few years and both parentx and children will be oblivious.

That Could've Hurt A Lot
I work in lumber and had a customer shift a pile of 4"x4"x12's that my hand was next to. One came tumbling down right on to my fingers. I heard a snap and thought my finger had lost the will to remain unbroken, turns out my tungsten carbide ring caught the full force, broke, but didn't bend and potentially saved me a really chewed up finger. I'd rather replace a ring than a finger any day!

I found this to be one of the more interesting disasters avoided. The material choice made all the difference. If it were silver or gold it would have had enough ductility to deform rather than break, resulting in a crushed ring. I also found it interesting that if any deformation occurred, it happened exclusively in the elastic region. This makes me want to do 3 things. 1) Get a tungsten-carbide ring myself. 2) Get several tungsten-carbide rings and test them to see if this was a fluke or not. I personally don't think it was. 3) Explore other applications for tungsten-carbide where cracking would be preferable to a large deformation.

I once worked with a router and I accidentally touched the rotating blades with my pinky. it shredded the skin instantly but I was so f*****g lucky because I only touched it for less than a millisecond and it didn't do any harm deeper than the skin. could have easily lost my finger or at least have my muscle/nerves shredded that day.

Our cat Carolino (RIP from old age) used to follow my mom EVERYWHERE. She didn't want cats in the kitchen, so she'd usually keep the door closed. One day, she went into the kitchen and tried to close the door behind her but it wouldn't shut all the way so she just kept pushing without looking back. When she finally looked back, she saw Carolino had stuck his head in while following her and she was choking him! From then on, he could go into the kitchen.

the knife picture is just like what happened to me lol. except i cut my toe. a bit more it probably would have sliced off though. then electrocuted by a trailer almost died doc said I was luck to pull myself off when i did and that it wasn't raining.

Good job, Inga! Thanks for not titling this "Disasters" or it would have had a lot more negative comments, but they all qualified as accidents... even the lame ones. Just one bit of advice, from writer to writer: learn correct capitalization for your captions or you come off as semi-literate.

Why are the last several hidden? They are not gross, racist, obscene, etc. Just plain little mishaps. Did the censor have to meet a quota or something? "Uh, oh. Was supposed to flag 10% of these and haven't done any yet. I'll just flag the last 5 and call it good."
