I recently spent a couple weeks traveling the North and South islands of New Zealand and I managed to hit almost every filming site from Lord of the Rings!
Here are some shots that I was able to re-create or that lined up with scenes from the movies very nicely.

Also - Mt Ruapehu is a very appropriate stand-in for Mordor. It is a freakin' volcano, after all. Killed a lot of people in its time. (BTW, did you meet and Orcs? Y'know - from Auckland?)

Sometimes I can't find a building with its name written in big-a*s-bus-sized letters and some people can find the same tree and the same perspective from a movie made 17 years ago.

Beautiful country. https://www.boredpanda.com/why-to-visit-mt-cook-and-surroundings/ One of the most beautiful places from LOTR in real life is Mount Sunday, aka Edoras. Unfortunately my camera was broken when I was there :/

I live in a beautiful country, ;small but both main islands have there own beauty snd you dont have to go far to see it all, just wish we had some more small birds, have some great insects though.

Kinda expected MORE locations in the post! Where's Edoras, where's Rivendell, Hobbiton etc.? The Argonath on River Anduin??
