I created this Kids See Ghosts (Kanye/Kid Cudi) illustration for fun since I really loved this album. I wanted to inject motifs from the album from the artwork, done beautifully by Takashi Murakami to the concept of perpetual narrowing which was brought up in the review from youtube review group,DeadEnd Hip Hop.

Digital felt appropriate to work with in a short amount of time since I would be building up slower than usual and taking experimental risks as I worked on this drawing. Like most of these ambitious digital paintings, this wasn’t as planned but I did my best to get it close to my original vision of them seeing these abstracted ghosts. (I took heavy influence from Murakami but inserting my versions different kinds of ghosts.)

From what I got from this project was two people who were fans of each other’s work and have gone through bouts of their own, coming together to create a symbiotic body of work. Seeing their brotherhood from the beginning to now was something I was at first very sketpical but I was glad to be proven wrong with this incredible album. From the seemingly reggae inspired Feel The Love, military march of Fire,4th Dimension’s whimsical palette,Jimi Hendrix/Lenny Kravitz fueled Free,a return to form for Cudi in Reborn,to finish up with the 1-2 punch of the title track & Cudi Montage. Kids See Ghosts took me back when I fell head over heels for both artists and why I stuck with them for so many years. It gave me the creative energy but in an explosion array of colour. Hopefully, this is a positive turning point for the two artists.

9.5/10
