I Quit My Job To Kayak The Mediterranean Sea And Took A Dog (3 Years & 5000km So Far)
Quit my job to travel the sea by kayak. From my home town, Barcelona, till Sicily along the coastline and many many islands. I have paddled over 5.000 km within 3 year. Slow enough to not miss too much.
I found a dog on the way, and now she lives aboard as a sailor dog. We discover new places and cultures together, making thousands of friends along the Mediterranean coast. The journey continues!

Share on FacebookI'm glad for him and his dog, but seriously, any time I see an article titled like "I quit my job to *insert travelling goal*" it makes me feel like unemployment is not a real problem.
Without quitting the job, I would have not been able to travel/live in this way. Why do you think I earned for doing anything..? There are other ways to handle money without having a job, for example paying less stuff. Or fishing on the go. We only need food, water and not get cold when sleeping. That's possible if you know how. Travelling alone pushes you to learn new skills, to deal differently. Maybe also making money on a different way. My goal was independent from money, but the freedom to travel without a dateline.

look at all the sponsor stickers on his kayak. that might be a clue...

Very cool... but dogs should wear life vests. http://www.dogingtonpost.com/dog-finally-rescued-after-3-hours-lost-at-sea/
She has a lifevest. But when taking a photo she prefers to take it off. She is a bit conceited ;)

I agree, too many people think having a job is the key to life but freedom to truly live is the real key! Food, water, shelter, companionship of a good dog, those are the things we need to have a fulfilling, happy life. You are living the dream my friend!
Keep it up mate, you dared to live your dream. You are an inspiration to us all!
Que hermosa vida! dont tell anyone tell you any different. this is one of the best way to live. going places, meeting people and best of all with your pal by your side!
How brave you are, this is a huge step into the unknown, people get dragged down with owning and paying for "things" . You have used your initiative and stepped off a cliff. I envy you, life must be much simpler and yet there must be times when it is dangerous, I wish you well and good luck. Imagine the stories you will have to tell your grandchildren! I love your dog, she looks perfectly at ease on your kayak too. Wish it was me.
Sergi, I don't know if you are still out there on the water but I wish you a nice travel. Travel far, travel safe. You said you found this beautiful girl. Didn't you have any problems taking her with you when going to different countries? Sometimes they can be real asses with animals...
Good for you Sargi, and your beautiful little pet. I would love to quit my job and travel, sculpt, but unlike you, I am not brave enough to do it. More power to you, and keep posting pictures so i, and many others, can enjoy living vicariously through you and your little friend
Woww I've been longing to do this for a long time. And I hope someday I'll succeed as well :)
Sergi, I would like to know what it took to begin your trip. I crave a change in my life. I crave a life worth looking back on and reminiscing in. I love to kayak and I love the outdoors and I do believe this sounds like something that fits the bill. I will leave this place and kayak the Mediterranean exactly like you are. I would only like to know how you began and the expenses involved at the beginning. Once I have tent, kayak, warm durable clothes anything after that I will find in nature. But what did you begin with?
Also the kind of yak you are using. That is turning into my most difficult decision, especially when it comes to stowing capacity and overall weight of the boat

How did you cross over to the island? Wouldn't rip currents, waves and the punishing waters/weather tip you over? What do you do during huge storms in the middle of the sea?
Clearly he is not out in the see during storms. As u can clearly see by photos and map,he is often on land
Load More Replies...Awesome! Is it still the same tent? I am surprised to see it in good shape after 3 years of daily use.
But for a dog , being on rocking kayak, during a scary thunderstorm, while getting soaked in water, falling in every now and again.
Why do you assume they stay in the water during a thunderstorm?? Have you seen the pics? They are often on land.they don't live on the kayak
Load More Replies...Well done Sergio... I think it's great you are doing something you enjoy and have the company of your dog and she has you. Some people live to work and that's fine for those I would like to work to finally live. If I could retire early and travel I would like nothing more.
Where does the dog pee? He can't pee in the sea otherwise he would fall in!
A dog needs to walk before peeing, she just does it when she gets back to land. This happens very often, as we do coast to coast navigation
Load More Replies...This is quite amazing. A journey of the soul. Would you do it sooner if you could go back? Do you miss anything?
Miss the couch!! Before I was busy doing other things, I think it's the right time for me.
Load More Replies...Aaahhhh, I wish a kid from Calcutta, India can do the same. Oh, I forgot they do kayaks on the Ganges river...
