I have been making jewelry for 25 years. Silver, Gold, and precious Gems have been my livelihood. I’ve actually been working with the same company for that period of time. Jewelry is indeed a beautiful art and a wonderful use of ones creativity. However, beyond that, I have always loved the beauty of natural wood. The intricate patterns and warm tones have always caught my eye.
Something in my life needed to break up the same daily path that I’ve been on. So I recently searched exotic woods, purchased some raw material and began making Hardwood Boxes. By using several different species, each piece is one of a kind. It’s a kind of therapy learning a new material, discovering the hidden beauty by cutting open a raw piece of wood, and creating something that somebody can use and cherish for a lifetime.
I didn’t know there were SO many different woods out there! it’s amazing ! The grain patterns and colors of the different woods all carry their own unique beauty and I wanted to capture that in simplicity. I did not set out to create ornate, gaudy, complex designs, but rather let the wood speak for itself by building simply designed boxes. Along with the woods natural beauty, these boxes are all functional pieces that can be used to store the many small treasures that people hold dear to their hearts…….. The list of treasures is endless and they are all special items that each deserve a place of safekeeping.
