There are so many living organisms around us that we choose not to see… Even though this story involves an old abandoned house (in the East-Macedonian village Smojmirovo) and a living soul in it, it has nothing to do with some expected horror events. However, I personally see it as modern, socially engaged horror story and you are about to see why.
Before this house was about to be legally demolished for the new urban plan to be constructed on her place, I managed to take a couple of pictures of it and i realized that this house has developed its own anatomy over time. Just like a human organism. Just like an old woman waiting to be put in her grave.
The reason why I’m calling this a modern society horror story is because it shows the assimilation of my country’s culture, architecture and history (especially in old villages like this one) into a grey homogeneous substance of concrete. And yet, it is nobody’s fault. People leave villages to move into bigger cities and globalization simply must take over. It is time for everything old to go underground and make a firm soil for the dynasty of skyscrapers that requires a lot of space. This Smojmirovian “old lady” as all the others will hopefully rest in peace (if the new 1000 neighbors above her grave don’t disturb her very soon)…
