We often see the headlines — rockets, airstrikes, political fights. But rarely do we hear the voices of the people living through it all.

I traveled to both sides of the Israel-Gaza border to speak with families trying to live normal lives amid fear and destruction.

In Sderot, Israel, a mother told me how she turned rocket sirens into a game with her kids — racing to the bomb shelter like it was a treasure hunt. It’s her way of protecting their innocence despite constant danger.

In Gaza City, a candy seller works near rubble, still finding joy in giving children sweets. His home was destroyed years ago, but he says, “We live, we love, we laugh.”

A bride in Gaza celebrated her wedding surrounded by ruins, while teens on the Israeli side danced at a coming-of-age party. Both are moments of hope and resilience.

What I heard from both sides was the same:

“We want peace.”

“We want our children to be safe.”

This story isn’t about politics — it’s about people. And their shared hope for a better future.
