Since first gazing in wonder at photos of the Aurora Borealis, I always wanted to see it for myself.

However, after two unsuccessful attempts visiting Lapland and chasing Aurora sightings throughout the UK, I accepted that I might have to wait many years before being fortunate enough to experience this incredible phenomenon… So I decided to create my own!!

I am a wood artist using techniques including: woodturning; carving; pyrography, and colouring wood.

I make my auroras by specially selecting pieces of wood with the right character; then using spirit stains I enhance the grain to show off the wood’s ‘natural aurora’. Pyrography is used to give texture, and iridescent paints make up the starry skies.

This is my largest piece to date, and took me over 40 hours to complete!
