In 2016, I traveled to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico (south of Cancún) with a friend whose photography was going on display at a gallery. That trip turned into a nine-month travel adventure. My travels took me through eighteen different states, and many cities, towns and villages.

Of course, my phone camera was very busy taking over a thousand pictures. There are some great photos, some good ones, and some not-so-good shots. I chose ten of my best that represent the diversity and unity of Mexican culture. It was a life-changing experience. I hope you enjoy them.

In Oaxaca, Mexico, many of the large older buildings have an open courtyard in the center.

We stayed with some new friends in Chiapas. The stairs to their apartment was simple, but elegant. I snapped a shot on our way up.

Teotihuacan is a short bus trip from Mexico City. Through the window of a museum, the great Aztec Pyramid of the Sun towers over the dry land.

Guanajuato was one of my favorite cities. Even the tunnels here are awesome!

Everything seemed in its right place in the quaint town of San Miguel de Allendes.

One thing you learn in Mexico right away is that they are not afraid of color! And what kid wouldn’t want a purple guitar?!

This “hanging garden” created a warm welcome to a restaurant in San Cristobal de Las Casas.

The markets (mercados) in Mexico are a very important part of daily life. You’ll find fresh fruits and vegetables, dried goods, flowers, toys, stationary, candles, and almost anything else you might need.
