I came up with the idea for Mommy Hearts when my 2-year-old son was having a tough time adjusting to daycare. I needle felted him a wool heart & told him it was “my” heart & love. I felted little hearts onto it to represent him, his brother, & Daddy. He adores it, carries it everywhere, and has named it his, “Mommy Heart”. His teachers have all commented on how much comfort it brings him throughout the day. He even wanted to hold it at the doctor’s office (and I was standing right there)! Since then, I’ve made Mommy Hearts for my friends’ children and they have found all sorts of uses for them- starting school, when Mommy or Daddy has to travel, and becoming a big brother or sister are just a few of the instances in which Mommy Hearts have provided comfort to a little one.
Each Mommy Heart is 100% handmade by me using loose wool and silk fibers. I use a barbed needle to sculpt the wool into a heart shape and to felt smaller hearts and other embellishments onto the heart. I’m able to create any color combination imaginable – many parents choose their children’s favorite colors. Renowned for its calming abilities, I’m also able to add lavender essential oil to a Mommy Heart upon request.
