Being widowed at 45, and having children to feed, one being special needs, I decided to finally do something I love, art. So, I took my love for the whimsical, and my craving for everything fantasy, and began making headpieces!! Having never done this before, it actually came quite easily. I started a mermaid group on Facebook which attracted close to 1000 members, and decided to run a contest! The winner receiving a handmade “mermaid headpiece” made by yours truly! I worked on my “masterpiece”, lol, for about a week, then chose a winner. I held my breath when I posted the prize, and waited. Much to my surprise everyone began to respond and ask if I could make one for them! So, I ran a poll asking if I should open a shop, and the outcome was “YES” by a landslide! I now have a shop on Etsy and Storenvy and have added pieces for my fairy friends as well. I not only sell to people who just love mermaids and or fairies, but I sell to professional mermaids, and have had my pieces in adds for cosmetic companies, and in a children’s TV show “Sigmund The Sea Monster” by well known producers Sid and Marty Kroft and have been featured in several magazines. It’s like a dream! I love what I do, and I get paid for it on top of it all! So, if you have a dream and think it’s so unattainable, just remember my story, the girl who makes crowns for mermaids!!!
