When I was a student at Duke University, I needed something to help me unwind: I often turned to coloring books. But I didn’t just want to color a pretty picture. I believed coloring books had the potential to transform the way we learn, so I started making coloring books to help me in school. I wanted something that coupled relaxation and education: beautiful, fun, and engaging coloring books that could be used as tools for learning.

First came Brainability, a coloring book with a variety of brain-boosting activities that are each built around a different aspect of cognition: attention, language, visual-spatial, memory, and executive function.

Then, in the throws of one of my upper level Arabic classes, The Language Coloring Book was born. After studying 6 languages through the course of my education, I wanted something to help me memorize vocabulary that could replace staring at the word blankly on a textbook page or flashcard and hoping it will stick.

I later developed The Art Clinic to help me absorb information from my health classes, and hoped to create a coloring book that could promote health literacy.

I launched the coloring books on Kickstarter, and in less than one day, we had met our funding goal. After 3 days, we were more than 200% funded. You can get a copy of any or all of the coloring books now at bit.ly/smartcolorskick
