The idea was born out of necessity, I planned to propose on a holiday to Thailand that we had been saving ages for but knew she would click way to quick if I acted overly concerned on how I was setting up the camera to take a “selfie”, which I hate. So I thought maybe I could get away with a photographer it’s a big moment and the spot I picked out was going to be stunning. (Erawan national park, if you want to have a look).
Then I thought she will suspect surely if I splash some cash on someone to follow us around taking pictures when we were likely to be a sweaty mess and being covert about it wasn’t really going to work in the middle of a Thai Jungle.
Turning to the internet for ideas I came up short but then the moment came when “Engagement Cam” was born, from a mash-up of a few ideas I had seen in my research.
A few months of tinkering began, I broke lots, burned myself trying to solder for the first time since school, bleed over a box with a well-placed wood file’s help but after recruiting a friend to help it was finished in time.
I won’t lie the first Engagement Cam didn’t look as stylish and smoothly designed as the boxes below, but in the making of my personal prototype and a little pressure from friends, I decided to take the leap and launch the idea as a business.
I’m glad to say, this story ends with: she said ‘Yes’ and didn’t even notice she was being recorded so the video later that evening was amazing to rewatch, she started crying and was speechless. (Bonus brownie points for me)
Now my mission is to make it easier for those that are still to propose not just to capture the moment but with all the planning and research making it easier for the less lovey-dovey among us to create that perfect memory to look back on.

that's a great idea, and not just for engagements--I would love to have had something like this (in a different form) when celebrating & giving gifts to my 95 yr old grandmother!
