In 2008, my best friend got married and I wanted to offer him a special gift. Something unique that he might keep and use forever. I remembered that he always loved to fold simple sheets of paper into beautiful figurines so I decided to include him into the process of shaping a lamp, inspired by origami paper craft.

I offered him a simple pre-scored steel plate, which he could fold into his own customized lamp. I thought it would be a one-time project. Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong. It went viral, with pictures appearing on many design blogs. So much that it attracted the attention of a London based architect who wanted to order 800 lamps! Unfortunately, at the time, I didn’t know how to fund, mass-produce, and market my concept.

Then in 2015, I met Robert. He loved the story behind the lamp and asked to be cofounder of a new company to produce my design. He helped me improve the original design. We added touch sensors, so now the lamp can be dimmed and switched on and off with a gentle touch on any part of the beautiful metal housing. We are now raising funds on Kickstarter in order to scale up from prototype to product.

Unfold your creativity with Folding Lamp.
