Going to university has always been a big dream for me, not because it’s the thing to do but because I love studying. Like I really love to learn. I’m pretty sure I was the only kid throughout school that enjoyed doing assignments and studying for midterms.

For most, university is a big expenditure, however when you’re an international kid, the fees go up 2 or 3 times the home rate. For a teenager with 2 siblings behind her and a parent whose job is unstable, the decision regarding going to university is a big responsibility.

I first learn to knit when I was living in South Korea, that was 7 years ago (I was 11). My first ‘blanket’ was hideous and it’s stayed stashed in the back of my cupboard as my secret source of nostalgic shame. When I found crochet and made my first amigurumi, I really fell in love with the crafting lifestyle.

Ever since then my desk has been cluttered with balls of wool, air-dry clay, needle felting pieces and buttons. I literally leave a trail of wool as I make my way through the house and often find pieces in my bed or even my clothes. I love crochet because there’s endless possibilities and everyone can find their own style. For me, I like to crochet anything cute and squishy that adds a little soft happiness to my room. I’ve made my own patterns that incorporate this style and it’s a privilege to see other crafters make my creations.

But there’s another side to my crochet. I hope the funds coming from selling my cuddly creatures will help release some of the pressure on my parents in terms of my university fees. My dream to go to university sits behind many barriers and so by selling my crochet, I’m making sure not to take the back seat and strive forward to achieve my goal. By ordering your own squishy friend you’re helping me get closer to this goal ꉂ (′̤ॢ∀ ू‵̤๑))ˉ̞̭♡ !
