The victim is 5 at the time of the story, so the bad treatment started when he was 3! Freaking blows my mind that physical abvse started that young, that severely, and has gone on this long.

You have a DH who hasn't contributed to the household for about a year and, even worse, has been stealing from you and yet you are pregnant? Why for Heaven's sake? Why would you want to have a child with a man like that? He has clearly demonstrated that he is a deadbeat dad, so what made you want to procreate with him? I do sympathise with you but at the same time you could have spared yourself a lot of trouble by sticking to birth control. This word doesn't need more children born into a situation that almost guarantees a life punctuated by conflict.

It might be helpful if OP ever answered the question that people keep asking, rather than repeatedly evading it: why haven't you kicked DH and his sociopathic kid to the curb long before now?
