The Kazakh eagle hunters preserve the hundreds of year tradition of eagle hunting on horse back for foxes, marmots and even wolves. They are nomadic and move several times per year around the Altai Mountains. Western Mongolian winter is extremely COLD but incredibly beautiful. Day time temperature is often below freezing.

Trained golden eagle and hunter through the winter is challenging permanent freezing conditions up to -40°C are commonplace. During winter time eagle hunters only hunt with their eagles when rabbits are pelted, foxes and wolves are at their most luxuriant. The trained eagles live with the trainer’s family and hunts with them for around nine years. Then released back into the wild for the rest of its life.
