For over twenty years it has been his life’s work: a fairy tale about a dwarf, a dragon and a golden egg. After many years of working on the European streets Jeanmarie Bevort teamed up with youth worker Frank Hitman to travel through the last remaining untouched regions of China, to perform his show to local villagers. As they transported this wondrous performance from village to village, they brought laughter and intrigue to all who witnessed their magical show, reuniting reality with fantasy, Europe and Asia.

In the past years I’ve poured my heart and soul into making a documentary film of this extraordinary story. This documentary called ‘The Dwarf in China’ offers a touching insight into the pursuit of magic by two men from the Netherlands and a tantalising glimpse into life within extremely remote village communities in the Yunnan region.

To showcase some of the unique images we shot for The Dwarf in China, I created this music video. Just like the film, this music video offers a dynamic fusion between two cultures, bringing together two traditions of folklore from Asia and Europe into one universal impression of humanity. The music of the film is a fundamental part of that fusion. This video, for example, contains the main theme song which is an elevating (re)arrangement inspired on a local traditional Hani song. It was produced and arranged by french musician Olivier Milchberg in collaboration with Justin Wilman (UK) & Sofía Miguélez (Spain).

In the future I really hope to create & see much more of the fusion that celebrates the unity as well as the diversity of our beautiful, colourful human family.
