So true. In some societies, older people are treated with disrespect and contempt by younger people. It lies in their own fear of aging, of course. In other societies, older people are treasured. I had the unique experience of knowing all 4 of my mother's grandparents. So I grew up learning to respect and admire them.

As someone who has recently become disabled, I spent 8 months mourning the things I can't do any more. Depressing! One day, I decided to celebrate the things I CAN do, and that spurred me to find workarounds for the things that used to be "can'ts". That became very empowering!

Does anyone else find it ironic that the prize will be used for an anti-plastic campaign and the subject in the photo is using plastic furniture? Without recycled plastic all he would have would be his wooden bench.

I have to disagree. Plastic used for those chair and table is recyclable, the biggest threat is the thin one that's used for packaging since it's unrecyclable.

Reminds me of the movie “An American in Paris”, and the musical number for “l’ll Build a Staircase to Paradise”, where they used lighted stair steps in the choreography.

Those rails are shockingly close to the homes. I see the contrast between the low-income neighborhood and the modern building in the background. Living in those conditions would be depressing, but the boy is still enjoying flying his kite.

I saw in some places rails really close to homes but they were no longer in use, so maybe this is the case as well...I mean, I hope they are not because this would be crazy dangerous

To me it just looks like a man in a brickfactory trying to make a living in a dusty unhealthy environment with no time or desire to think about "coming out of the fog of confusion and problems and hoping to go towards a right path." The man is on the right path, working and making a living in dire conditions.
