Hey everyone, I am a foodie and also a vegetarian. Coming from a primarily vegetarian culture i got to explore a lot of delicious food but when it comes to the international cuisines I am lost. I always wonder that there has to be at least one vegetarian traditional dish in every culture, so here i am asking for your help to be able to explore the delicious taste of your food and recipes. Thank you.

Gado-gado from Indonesia, basically it’s a vegetable salad with peanut sauce. It consist of various vegetables, raw (cucumber and lettuce), blanched/steamed (bean sprout, snake/long bean, cabbage), cooked and diced potato, fried tofu and tempeh (Indonesian local food), top with special peanut sauce and cracker.

Hey thanks for recommendation. I just looked it up and the recipe has eggs in it, so i have one question is it a primary ingredient or can be skipped or substituted with something else? Thank you

Urap from Central Java, Indonesia. Blanched vegetables "dressed" with grated coconut seasoned with fresh herbs and chilies. The vegetables combination is not exact. Some people do a long beans, spinach, and bean sprouts combo. Some people do a green beans (thinly sliced on the diagonal), julienned carrots, and bean sprouts combo. For the coconut dressing, blend galangal, red chilies, garlic, and toasted shrimp paste. Sautee in a frying pan, add in chopped up palm sugar (or brown sugar if you can't get palm sugar) and add salt to taste. Mix in your freshly grated coconut and sautee on medium heat. Toss it with your blanched vegetables. It can be eaten as a veggie side dish or as a salad.
