Growing up I lived about a 15 minute drive from Hinkley, California. Now if you’ve ever seen the 2000 Julia Roberts movie ‘Erin Brockovich’, You know about Hinkley. If not the wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinkley,_California is a great resource.

I used to love driving around Hinkley and shooting pictures. It was (and when I visit) still is one of my favorite pasttimes.

Ultimately it’s a tragic thing that happend there. The ground water was contaminated with hexavalent chromium starting in 1952.

Over the years I’ve seen the demise. I knew people that used to live out there. Their houses have since been torn down or left abandoned. I even worked at the School, which closed in 2014. Here are 20 photos showing some of the remnants of the town. Some of the buildings in the photos are no longer standing as of today.
