I’m grew up in a suburb close to Detroit. Folks born & raised here in Michigan are pretty loyal when it comes to Michigan made products. We buy it, eat it, serve it to our families, send it as gifts across the country and in my case, I illustrate it! Growing up I have fond memories of Faygo Pop being served alongside Bettermade Chips at many family barbecues and parties.

The coney dog is a Detroit staple. If you come for a visit, you must go downtown, but then you’re stuck with a tough decision. Which of the two most famous Detroit coney islands do you go to? Should you choose American Coney Island or Lafayette Coney? My Faygo, Coney + Fries illustration was inspired by Lafayette Coney, because it’s the original coney and the one I used to frequent in my 20’s.

Before I started doing my illustration full-time, I used to work downtown in advertising at J.Walter Thompson as an Art Director, and that’s where I developed my Lafayette addiction. Coworker friends and I would visit at least once a week to get our Detroit coney dog fix, and maybe a chili cheese fry or two. ;) After awhile people started noticing my Faygo, Coney & Fries artwork, and they started requesting their favorite Faygo flavors as single illustrations. I have a single Rock -n- Rye coming soon too!
