These images are culled from years (30 or so) of documenting the issues of homelessness/addiction/mental illness in New York City.
We, the fortunate ones, pass them on the street every day. Some of them implore us directly,
some broadcast their message to all and sundry, some have collapsed with a sign and a cup in
front of them.
They are getting younger and younger as the Opiate Epidemic
(thanks to the advent of high power synthetics like Oxycontin) progresses.
They are our
children, brothers,
sisters, family, our
friends.
They, most of all, are human beings deserving respect.
These images are from a self published book “Hard Luck and Trouble”.
Not pleasant to look at but with a few wrong turns, bad decisions, or just bad luck it could be a lot of us.
