Loyal Dog Refuses To Leave His Owner’s Car Crash Site For 18 Months So Locals Built Him A Home
If there is one film that will certainly make you sob like it’s nobody’s business, it’s the legendary “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale.” Based on a true story of an incredibly loyal and heartbroken Japanese Akita who waited for his owner at Tokyo’s Shibuya train station every day for nine years following his death. As a symbol of remarkable loyalty and fidelity, Hachiko was portrayed in many adaptations across pop culture worldwide: books, films, statues, and more. The heartbreakingly sad story of a beautiful friendship between man and his loyal dog is repeating itself 94 years later in Greece, where this devoted family dog hasn’t moved an inch from the spot where his owner met his tragic fate 18 months ago.
So grab a napkin as this will once again prove that we don’t deserve our adorable dogs. And if you thought you’re a really loyal and loving friend, this family pet will teach you more than your heart can handle.

According to Nafpaktia News, the dog’s owner was a 40-year-old man called Haris, who died on 9 November 2017 after a collision with a cement mixer on the Old Ring Road to the River Evinos. The news shook the local community as just a few years prior, his brother had lost his life in a similar accident.

It remains a mystery how this modern-day Hachiko made it to the exact spot the fatal crash happened, which is seven-and-a-half miles away from his home in Nafpaktos, but he refuses to move from his owner’s roadside shrine. He has been grieving for one-and-a-half years at the same spot and returning to it every time despite the vain efforts of locals to take him off the road and give him a loving family.

Touched by the dog’s persistence of staying beside his human best friend even after his death, locals have given up on trying to convince the stubborn pup to abandon his new home. Instead, they decided to make his life more comfortable by building him a little shelter on the roadside, crafting a shrine to his owner, and regularly bringing him food and water while he’s looking into the distance as he patiently waits for his human to return. The dedicated pet became known as the “Greek Hachiko” in honor of the famous Akita.

Countless sad stories are showing canine unconditional love and loyalty. Just last year, we wrote about a dog in Brazil who chased an ambulance carrying his stabbed owner and later waited four months at the hospital’s entrance after he died. Each story touches us deeply, but it also proves that dogs are indeed man’s best friends, and we have no other choice but to give love back to them.

Share on FacebookWell that's me covering my keyboard with tears while my colleague looks at me and pretends she isn't thinking "oh he's reading a sad animal story again". Honestly mate this kills me, i just want to go and live there with him. If only humans had some of the love and loyalty dogs have, we really don't deserve them. The locals are making him comfy and looking after him, that's all we can ask. Poor dog, wish i could tell him his owners gone.
Dear friend, if this got you, do not go see "The art of Racing in the Rain". Beautiful story - to be read home alone until you ugly cry yourself to sleep or to sick, whatever comes first. Animal stuff gets me like nothing else.

Load More Replies...ACK! My feels, they hurt....I don't know what we humans did to deserve dogs, but here we are...thank you puppers for all you do.
Imagine if humans were these loyal and loving to others, our world would be so different. Dear doggie, I hope you can find peace one day and are able to find happiness with another owner. God bless you!!
I am crying... and I rarely cry. This goes to show how sad it is that dogs will never understand, and that's terrible. There were a few sentences above about a dog that chased his owner in an ambulance. This is terrible, and it simply breaks my heart into pieces. :(
Mine too, I wonder if after four months the dog died. After all so many countries have street dogs and I own one. They do not deserve poor or unkind treatment. I hope I awake to find my life has just been a bad dream and that we are really in a beautiful place instead with our beloved fur babies.
Load More Replies...Just want everyone to know that the Greek Hachiko was rescued by a Youtuber Viktor Larkhill and is currently living a good life now with his new family. Viktor, also wanted the Bored Panda staff to know about the news. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5hv53XsXzY
considering there is so so much animal abuse & torture in greece,i am surprised!
Sorry, they need to do better. An adoptive owner might try hanging out at the crash site with the dog to win him over. It's worth a try. This lonely existence is not okay for such a good dog.
I am worried too about them being without me, hopefully my partner will live as long as they do and beyond
I would add cats too, they too are incredibly loyal...there are similar stories about cats too, they are able to even die of grief...probably a bunch of other animals would do the same, had we known them well....it's heartbreaking and proves animals do have feelings, and very strong for that matter...
This is entirely true! When I was a teenager I decided I was going to move out and go live with my new boyfriend. My dog Hoss literally was so depressed that he basically starved himself - he refused to eat (not even KFC fried chicken! lol) and he sat in the loveseat with his head on the back of it, looking out the front window facing the driveway and cried all day, everyday for almost two weeks straight before I had no choice but to go get him and inform my new boyfriend & his family that my 100lb pitbull was moving in too! My poor pup-pup missed his momma so much that he became consumed with waiting for me to come home, and he wouldn't leave that spot until I did!! Talk about unconditional love, right? ♡
