Mom Took What Seemed To Be A Funny Pic Of Her Daughter, But Soon Realized The Sad Reality
The saying “never judge a book by its cover” is once again proved correct. What seemed to be a funny picture of a toddler standing on a toilet turned out to be a heartbreaking photo of a toddler practicing a lockdown drill taught in preschool. Considering the recent shootings, it is both good little kids are being taught how to hide from potential attackers, yet heartbreaking at the same time.
Stacey Feeley, the mother of the 3-year-old girl, decided to post this photo on Facebook with a powerful caption: “…Politicians – take a look. This is your child, your children, your grandchildren, your great grandchildren and future generations to come. They will live their lives and grow up in this world based on your decisions. They are barely 3 and they will hide in bathroom stalls standing on top of toilet seats. I do not know what will be harder for them? Trying to remain quiet for an extended amount of time or trying to keep their balance without letting a foot slip below the stall door?…”

Share on FacebookUntil Americans understand gun control doesn't mean no one has guns but people wanting guns need to go through a process like getting a driver's license adding a criminal background check, then nothing will change. I find it sickening that little children are being taught how to hide if a shooter is attacking their school. What a thought for a child, who should feel safe at school to have.
What if they already have that? In the past week or two, we've had multiple "journalists" "exposing" how easy it is to get a gun. One of them broke federal law and was exposed, another was denied because he's an alcoholic who beat his wife. The more I read about Americans and their gun law, the more I realize that in that culture, the problem is gun-free zones, not guns. If people don't like guns, they can move to a culture where we stab each other instead of shoot each other. I'm not American, I don't like guns, I'm not moving there. It will take more than regulation to change what is clearly a cultural issue. The anti-gun lobby is incredibly unrealistic. Even black market guns in the US will be cheap, just because there's so many guns. Meaning criminals will stay armed. Every single recent mass shooting was committed at a gun-free zone. You know, a place where the shooter knows nobody can kill him.

I'm 33. When I was in elementary they didn't teach what to do in an emergency. So, being a smart kid and knowing that bad things happen, I had to come up with things like this little girl is doing all by myself. If I didn't, the boogeyman might get me. So, I'm glad they are teaching kids now. I wish they would do even more and teach first aid, CPR, and other emergency skills.
We've always had lockdown drills occasionally in the school district I work for in Southern California. It's just that now, sadly, I think children really understand the reason behind it. Why we must lock the doors, cover the windows on the doors, close the blinds, turn off the lights and not move or make a sound. These drills used to be run along with earthquake drills and fire drills and the kids had pretty much the same attitude for all three. A bit excited, happy to get out of the classroom even for a drill. But the last lockdown drill I did in my classroom about 3 months ago....well when I told the kids to not move or make a sound. A classroom full of six and seven year olds didn't move or make a sound until the drill was over. They get it now I thought, they understand fear, and danger. They understood that what we were really doing, was trying to hide ourselves from someone very very bad.
Should be proud of their kid. They're practicing safety and showing that at 3 years old they're learning well and taking it seriously. Don't have a pop at Politicians because you can only see the negative - your kid has potentially displayed they have the smarts at 3 to save themselves so they come home.
Whilst NRA has control and people believe in the right to bear arms at all costs then things Will be hard to change. also whilst there are people who think changing this or that is not going to stop gun crime do nothing, then nothing will change. There is not an instant fix and it will not change over night, but if nothing is done nothing changes. Do something, no matter how small and it is the catalyst for change over time. It will take a long time of hard fighting but small changes can lead to bigger things. Change attitutides and stop clinging to old traditions long since redundant, and stop hollywood glamorising violence, could be a start. Do nothing and things get worse
Some cogent arguments here. However, can any one convince me that guns are actually good? The logical conclusion to some comments is that more guns make the place safer. If everyone could carry a fully automatic assault rifle would that be safer than no one carrying any sort of gun? Detroit had more shootings last weekend than the UK has had all year. Just in case you don't know, the possession of guns in the UK is limited to those who can prove a use for them.
The only mass murders that took place in Europe these past months are not done by simple citizens , but by ISIS. USA is a country of cowboys and cowgirls. We are in the 21st century and times should change. Violence breeds violence. Most people in the States don't have to kill off the native Indians anymore, there are hardly any left.
especially when reading the comments. O.o No, I'll just continue living my live in a society where everybody I see around me has health insurance and practically noone owns a gun. So peaceful...
Load More Replies...Of course, by posting this and making it viral, they have now made a valid safety precaution absolutely useless (as any would-be shooter now knows the schools drill). So, yes, it sucks that it has become necessary. But, maybe don't tell the bad guys how to get your kids next time.
I'm so sorry that the educators who are more interested in indoctrination instead of education have scared your poor daughter so much. The most culpable are the members of the press who want to turn a hangnail into a heart attack never seem to want to hand out real facts and the liberal politicians are taking every opportunity to build their own empire on the graves of our freedoms. The real truth is that out of 330 million souls in this country, last year there were a grand total of 300 people killed by rifles in our country - total. Not just with a AR15, but with ALL types of rifles, just 300. This is not a FBI Crime statistic you will find anywhere in the press, White House or congress, and certainly not in the pages of the NY Times. FBI Crime Stats are plain, violent crime IS at a all time low, but that doesn't get papers sold or people elected. Educate yourself with facts not hype. You will be happier knowing the truth. Guns save lives.
If people would bother to stop & think rather than mindlessly consume, they would realize that if one school shooting happens every other year and there are 100000 schools (not counting private, college, and home schools) they would realize this child has a 1 in 200000 (0.0005%) chance of ever actually needing this "drill" and that it's just a stunt to keep parents on red alert. because terrorism and such. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." The first thing I taught my niece and nephew was, when the news is trying very hard to get you focused on something, look at what else is going on because they don't want you paying attention to that stuff. Like the fact that Omar Mateen was questioned about ties to known ISIL members at least 5 times but I guess that wasn't convincing enough for the F.B.I. But then people cry out for government to save them from these tragedies, when they are the ones who let them happen in the first place. Heavens forbid people protect themselves!!

What's the point of standing on top of WC? Do you really think that a person with a gun will walk to the bathroom, and instead of opening doors will fall down and look for legs? What's next? Try to put „out of service“ on the door or „wet floor“ so the killer wouldn't come in? Just saying...
As much as I hate to add a cynical note to this poignant message, I feel we all must come to terms with one important fact: There is no money in gun control, or in anything that limits shootings. Gun and ammo manufacturers are raking in the dough -- enough of it to buy politicians that might otherwise make some changes, and render our entire electoral system completely useless to the people. Add to that the medical/pharmaceutical corporations; they too are raking it in, in sums unheard of in the entire history of humanity, and they, too, buy politicians. The bottom line is: THEY DON'T CARE. All they care about is money and power. Unless a way can be found to keep these entities growing ever more wealthy and powerful by eliminating gun violence, I'm afraid we are stuck here until the time of Universal Conscious Awakening.
And mass murders don't care about laws either so its the same effect: no net change. There are plenty of people being killed with bombs, lets outlaw those too...oh wait...but it's funny how people tend to forget the bombings real quick.

Where is the world going? It is sad that a president (read Obama) only can run for president twice.

She's trying to show that the possibilities have been awakened in her child - long before they needed to be. That there could come a day when someone manages to broach their school or classroom doors - in an effort to purposely cause great harm, including death - to them, their friends and teachers. The same classroom they once felt safe in.
