Tech Support People Are Sharing The Worst Cases They’ve Seen While On The Job (50 New Pics)
InterviewTrust me, tech support workers, they’ve seen it all. Witnessing the infinite amount of hard grease on a mouse pad, sorting through makeshift computer ventilations, laying their eyes on needlessly creative audio outputs and whatnot, it’s just fair to say they’ve been to hell and back.
And thanks to Reddit's corner known as TechSupportGore, we now have the picture evidence that not everyone was born into electronics. Not even every second one of us.
We have selected some of the worst offenders in the tech department as shared by the blessed tech support employees who still smile back at us after knowing what gore we just submitted for repair. Scroll down, upvote the ones that made you cringe and sigh, and be sure to share your tech gone wrong experiences in the comment section!
Psst! Don’t forget to check out our previous tech support gore posts here and here.

Load More Replies...I wonder. Splitters like these usually split the volume in two. So by the fifth splitter the volume would be 6.25% of its original volume (100 / 2^4). Added to that, the white and red cables should be connected at the same level of splitters or else the channels recieve different volumes, seeing as the first splitter splits into one red and one, err, another splitter, the white cable wherever that is plugged in will recieve much less volume. It's a nightmare.

Load More Replies...Since its beginning in 2012, the TechSupportGore subreddit grew its community to a solid 485k members who love to “cringe to the brink of passing out after a few minutes looking at this subreddit.”
Every post screams for help from tech support here. From makeshift electronics to cases where people thought repairing their computers would be a walk in the park, the fun is both painfully funny and (secretly) relatable.
So to find out more about the community, Bored Panda reached out to its moderator Coffeechipmunk who was happy to share some insights. “I feel like the community has grown different tastes for the subreddit over time, for sure. For a while, cable gore was boring, cracked screens, etc. Now? Bad wiring is loved.”
Customer Describes A “Slight” Burning Smell
People, a kind reminder: if your laptop, celphone or any other device that uses batteries starts to expand, turn the power off immediately and get rid of it or take it to tech support. It's very very very dangerous.
I see the problem, some of your keys aren't working optimally. Have you run updates?
(The underreacter) Mild, only slight, totally not almost burned down house level, only slight
Dont Use Lemonade To Clean Your Mouse. I Thought The Acidity Would Clean Off The Buildup Of Crumbs And Cheeto Grease But It Just Attracted These Ants. I Left Home For 2 Days, Just To See This On My Desk
Lemonade has sugar, so yeah, that's an open invitation for hordes of ants.
"Crumbs and Cheeto grease," huh? Somehow, the lemonade bit is not so surprising after reading that.
You also shouldn't try to dry your hair with a flame thrower. Just in case you needed clarification for that too.
Why not spritz on some diluted vinegar? That has acid, is going to evaporate, and won't leave your mouse sticky or tempting for ants
Of all the unnecessary public information announcements... Don't clean your desk with gravel, either.

Load More Replies...When asked about the term “Tech Support Gore," the mod explained that it refers to “stuff in the tech support or IT field that's a computer comparable version of gore,” and added: “Instead of a heart ripped out, it's CPU pins. Slightly less awful.”
Coffeechipmunk said that among the worst tech support gore cases he has seen while moderating the community, it's "anything with bugs in it. That's the worst.” Also, “the guy who got a laptop full of milk. Yeesh.”
Go Check The Switch Closet. We Think Something Might Have Gotten Unplugged Somewhere
"Where do I begin? To tell the story of how a mess these wires can be? The same old story that is older than your PC. The simple truth about the pain that's brought to me. Where do I start?" This is sung to the 1970's song 'Love Story'.
This is known as "rats nest" wiring. If you look carefully, you can see the rat hiding in the bottom left corner.

I Don’t Work In Tech. My Hospital Has Some Occasional Network Issues...i’ve Finally Seen Behind The Curtain

This is fairly typical. The original installation was probably fairly tidy, but then some department expanded, or offices moved, or new equipment was added, and it all fell apart. Patch bays are basically impossible to move in any reasonable fashion once installed.

Previously, the same moderator told us that part of the appeal of the subreddit comes down to the fact that it gives honest fun and cringe to viewers. “In a time where most of the internet can be incredibly serious and most times saddening or angering, TechSupportGore is fun because you go on it and you can laugh (and/or cringe) at the crazy posts.”
After all, “Where else can you see a post like, 'Wow, these cables really are messy' to 'A lizard fried my motherboard' back to back?”

Makes me crazy just to look at! Cord maintenance is first thing I was taught in IT. Future repairs\ changes are easier and it's safer. And the senior techs would not tolerate anything else. Student Spilled Nail Polish On Computer. Mother Tried To Clean It And Washed Off 26 Keys
Not all bad news, now you can do this. Every cloud has a silver lining. 6022a4cc5b...87feb3.jpg
Why the hell would you even paint your nails at the computer anyway? I wouldn't use nail polish I use nail stickers or fake nails period.
Maybe they were painting their nails while watching a movie, thinking they wouldn't need to touch the computer. I paint my nails sometimes, but wouldn't think to do it near the computer.

I'd guess they used a solvent that dissolved the key caps. Depending on the plastic ordinary nail polisher remover could do it.

Mopping up the excess liquid and turning the laptop upside down to dry are the best things to do.

Load More Replies...That's Not Good...
How did someone shoot an arrow through a cable, let alone a bullet. I am just surprised that it stopped the bullet.
Probably shot up randomly and then fell back down and happen to hit the cable.
Load More Replies...So, the best I can figure is that it was likely fired in the air as celebratory gunfire and it was, in fact, headed to earth as it collided with the cable, which explains its lack of warping and why it didn't punch all the way through.
If slow enough --it's not that sharp, unlike arrows-- I'd expect it to bounce off. The cable has a lot of "give" too, so no need to expect deformation. But if fast I'd expect it to make it through, as the widest bit is already in... big coincidence.
Load More Replies...This is why it's illegal to fire a gun in the air in the US: it has to come down eventually.
Why Would Anyone Make This?
Hey, wasn't there a boredpanda post saying there is no such thing as a male to male cable.
That would be because all this is good for is starting fires and killing people.
Load More Replies...That has a high probability of seeing things of fire
Load More Replies...Electricians call this a suicide cable. It's an extremely dangerous method of running power from a generator to the house by plugging it from the generator into any available socket. The problem is they have a tendency of catching fire. Like, a lot.

I saw a thing like this once... some guys installing a rack (that was attached to the wall) drilled thru a cable in the wall so they made thing like this to connect sockets that were "severed" by the drill. It looks stupid but worked until a proper electrician came and fixed the cable,
Normally it is done to power an home from a generator. Problem is, if you don't disconnect from the power net, you risk killing someone or giving a (brief) power to the whole city
I had a cable like this when living in a house by the side of the house where my parent were living. It was freshly renovated house and I had no electrical power so I borrowed it from my parents

1 good internet vs 4 bad ones. Argument for 4 bad ones: they can build an internet ladder.
What bothers me is that they block one socket (or even two?) for no reason. The pass-through is at the bottom?
I still can't figure out why you'd need 4 wired connections to the same small space in the house? 3 consoles and a TV? And you couldn't use them all at the same time either.
Remember that one of those connections is likely to go to the modem/router. That leaves three, and it's much more convenient to leave your devices hooked up than to jockey cables every time you want to do something different. I have a set-top box and an internet radio in the living room, I just ran two cables.

Oh No, Somebody Used Thermal Paste Instead Of Thermal Pads
Thermal pads should be replaced with thermal pads only or with specially designed viscous thermal paste. The reason is that normal thermal paste is not designed to fill big gaps so sooner or latter will flow out and leave a gap between the component and the heat sink.
Load More Replies...Looks more like someone has misunderstood what thermal paste does - it conducts heat into the heatsink - it doesn't cool things. I'm guessing the heatsink just sits over the GPU, anchored by 4 screws (you can see the holes for them). They have covered every chip thinking it will help with cooling.

Oh, that's an unusual number. For those who might not know, it's generally numbers such as 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and so on. 9 is not one that I've seen before.
Well, but that doesn't have to be. It's 2^n in the single memory unit, was so when these were measured in KB, MB and now GB. But ... but there is nothing wrong with, say, 3 units of 4 GB or so, which would make it 12 ... 8 may be not enough, while 16 may not be needed, ... there's no actual law of physics or so that makes the 2^n superior, it's just that we're used to seeing these numbers.
