The things that you know, all the skills that you’ve honed over the years—all of these can give you a massive advantage in life. Sure, pretty much everyone knows the phrase that knowledge is power, but how often do we realize how true that is? And sometimes that knowledge can make people feel guilty that they know it at all. The burden’s just too big to bear.

Some bits of info feel practically illegal to know even if they’re technically not. From being able to pick locks to knowing how atomic bombs work and how people taste and more, Reddit users opened up about the most esoteric, ‘forbidden’ pieces of knowledge they’ve accidentally stumbled upon.

We’ve collected the most honest and intriguing insights from these two r/AskReddit threads right here and here to give you a glimpse into a darker, more uncomfortable side of real-life, Pandas. Read on, upvote the answers that impressed you the most, and share your own bits of info that feel illegal to know in the comments. But before you do, take a look around to check if the FBI and CIA aren’t nearby in an unmarked white van.

Pssst, Pandas, if you’d like even more captivating but dark facts, you should definitely check out Bored Panda’s earlier article right here.

Bored Panda reached out to Steven Wooding for a chat about 'forbidden' knowledge, limiting access to information, and responsibility. Steven is a member of the Institute of Physics in the UK and part of the Omni Calculator Project team. He created the Weird Units Converter.

"There have to be some limits to information, for the protection of the general public and those trying to use such information," Steven shared with us. "One area where this is common is in the field of computer security. The fine details of how to do an exploit are withheld to stop low-level hackers from simply following a recipe to cause havoc on the internet. We mustn't make it too easy for bad people to do bad things." Read on for the full interview.

It's not illegal here in Pakistan. If it is, it's probably in name only. Only blasphemy is punishable by death.

Sick. Sick, sick, fúcking sick - making homosexuality illegal is so incomprehensibly, dimwittedly evil that it makes me SICK. My best and oldest friend is gay, and I will be forever grateful that I live in a country where hetero and homosexual rights are the same. Fùck that homophobic pile of rancid shìt all the way to hell. I’m usually more discreet in my choice of words, but this? I have no patience left for this. None. I don’t care what religion is being used as an excuse, I just do not care. My best thoughts to people being caught under such horrendous, immoral, inhumane bùllshit laws.

You know my grandmother who passed at 94 after living through two world wars and the Great Depression said “Why can’t people love who they want to love?” It really isn’t anyone else’s business, is it? And deep down, people are inherently selfish and don’t really care anyway.

Legal? You sure about that? Looking at Florida and most of the southern/Republican states, appears to be very barely legal

Steven absolutely believes that people have more and more responsibility, the more information they know. "If you know potential dangerous information, you should protect it from the general public, or more specifically, people who would do bad things," he explained to us.

"That's why government labs in sensitive areas keep the information they have a secret to protect the general public from threatening uses of that information," he added.

No, most of them are not making it up along the way. It would be better if they were. What they actually do is stupidly follow society's script most of the time. Why do so many people get mortgages instead of saving up for a smaller, cheaper house or even a trailer that they can afford? Because that Just What You Do. And then they're in debt for the next 30 years. Nice job, bozo.

Bored Panda wanted to know if scientists have a duty to figure out the truth about how the world works or if there have to be some limits in place. "You probably can't stop things from being discovered. If you ban it in one country, another will pursue it to gain a competitive advantage. And if all countries agree on a ban, some curious people will probably continue to work on it," Steven shared his opinion.

"In general, I think we should learn about everything about how the world and universe work. It's how that knowledge is applied later on that is debatable," he said that the focus has to be on how that knowledge is then used, not the actual fact that you know something.

You could argue that human beings are hardwired for curiosity. We want to know as much about the world as we can because our survival depends on it. And the more fringe the knowledge, the more obscure the facts, the more curious some of us get. This applies both to real-life facts, as well as to entertainment. ‘Forbidden’ knowledge and learning about the dark side of humanity are hard to resist. Especially in the digital age where so much information is just a few internet searches away.

My mom recently started working for a company she had left 20 yeas ago to be a special need home daycare. She found out her previous regional manager from back then was the CEO. When he found out she was managing a store he went and visited to see how she was settling in. She was doing good but mentioned the inconvenience of there not being pockets on the women's uniforms. It had stitching to give the appearance of pockets though. The CEO had no idea that was even a thing. 3 days later mom received a call from the CEO saying that he put in a special request order to the company that makes the uniforms and the female staff should be receiving a new set of uniforms in 2-3 weeks. The uniforms arrived and the staff are extremely happy about it. Sorry for the long story

I think you have it backwards. There's some reason for having no/useless pockets and so you need a purse. I think it's because those pants are usually very tight, and anything big your screw up the aesthetics or just wouldn't stretch enough and be uncomfortable. There is a butt pocket after all, for all your big phone needs, but the side ones are bad. I think it's stretch out aesthetics.

It's actually even more nefarious than that. It began as a way to make women dependent on men, who would be the one to carry the purse. But we sidestepped this by creating what's effectively a f***y pack worn under one's skirts that was accessible by a small slit. Some women (usually of wealthy means), wore a chatelaine, with several small implements like scissors, a small coin purse, etc dangling from it. There were some absolutely thrilling, ostentatious chatelaines!

"When considering why the darker side of humanity and entertainment are so compelling, we have to first look at our evolutionary journey as human beings. For the majority of our existence, we were prey and always hyperaware of threats to our safety, which created a negativity bias that we are drawn towards," psychologist Lee Chambers told Bored Panda earlier.

"But in today's safe and often sanitized world, we are rarely threatened significantly, and the ability to explore evil, frightening and gruesome entertainment is one of the few ways we can visit this part of humanity while remaining safe and comfortable. There is a level of novelty to it, it removes boredom quickly, and it helps us to discover our emotional limits while understanding the minds of those who go beyond social norms and potentially gaining knowledge of how we might avoid being victims ourselves. They also offer closure, with many stories ending with the mystery being solved, and the criminal being brought to a level of justice," the mental health expert explained to us why exploring the darker aspects of humanity hooks and reels so many people in.

100% its the insurance companies. I work for a medical equipment comapny(wheelchairs, beds etc) and the hoops we have to jump through are ridiculous. It takes less paperwork to get opiates than to get a wheelchair. In the US your doctor does not determine what is medically necessary, your insurance company does

Insurance hack: the first time it is denied, call the insurance and ask for the HIPAA Compliancy Officer. It is a federal requirement that they have one. They will either transfer you or ask you why. Tell them you need the names and the credentials of every person accessing the record to make the denial decision. You have a right to this information under law. They will usually place you on hold for a while and then just come back and say the denial was sent in error and you were approved. Insurance companies will do this so they can avoid admitting the denial was decided by a high school graduate with no medical training looking for criteria words to deny the claim. Rarely it will be someone with medical training, but this person will not be a board certified doctor in the specialty the claim is for and the insurance company will do everything they can to hide that information.

In capitalism, something costs as much as people are willing to pay, which just happens to work strongly in favor of the medical and kidnapping industries.

Worse, insurance leans on providers to significantly mark up the price, so it looks impressive when you copay. But, everyone ends up paying more because of insurance than if the public just negotiated prices directly. Insurance is a legal cartel. Their purpose is to make money, not care about health.

Yep. Medicine I get 30 for $9.00 copay is $12.00 per pill or more through the hospital. I get all of it for less than the copay using Mark Cuban's website. Insurance is a crime racket.

Insurance companies don’t set the rates you pay at the doctor. If insurance had their way, your healthcare would be dirt cheap because they could keep all your premium instead of having to turn around and pay high claims.

I'm in the process of getting itemized bills for my husband's heart attack treatment and the 2 subsequent surgeries. Yes, we have insurance but you get billed for a lot of things and don't know unless you have an itemized bill. Also, if you don't have insurance they will quote you a reduced rate for services.

Be sure you tell your insurance company what you find on the bills. If you can find that you are being overcharged you can get them to join in the fight. Also ALWAYS report being charged for services you didn’t receive. Your insurance company definitely will want to know that and will fight for you in those cases.

I've just learned today that when Michael Moore made his film Sicko, he send a film crew to Norway to interview people about their experiences with healthcare there. The interviews did not make it into the film. About a year later he stated in an interview that they had to cut out everything about Norway because they judged that no American would believe it. So they settled by showing the less impressive french healthcare system. The problem was that Americans didn't believe that either...

The psychologist pointed out that some people find it comforting when they’re exposed to evil things being done in the form of entertainment, e.g. on screen. The audience feels safe but can go on an emotional inner journey.

"It can take us on an emotional rollercoaster, have us trying to solve the puzzle and test our fear in a controlled way. The permission to explore evil is powerful, as we so rarely get the chance elsewhere, and in itself, it is healthy and normal in moderation," Lee said that this is why so many folks love true crime entertainment. It’s the forbidden aspect of it that entices so many viewers and listeners to tune in day in, day out.

I'm also someone that was a volunteer at a home for abused and neglected children. Here in Germany, they do it with the Covid numbers. It is the job of the Robert Koch Institute and they add "not fully vaccinated" with unvaccinated persons when reporting numbers of infections with and deaths by Covid - that is mixing effects and any student you would do this would get his a*s kicked by his professor. They don´t adjust the number of infections to the number of tests taken - there were several occasions where the number of tests were raised e.g. when tests were made mandatory - and then there was a big hello/scare that numbers of infections went up, too. They don´t differentiate between death from and death with Covid and if a vaccinated person dies they are soooo damned sure that the vaccination has absolutely nothing to to with it - as soon as an old person is vaccinated, it seems that they can´t die of side effects, but if a person is infected it seems impossible to die of any other reason like the cancer that ailed them or the hard fall they had some days before.

However, consuming too much dark content isn’t all that healthy for us. “The challenge we face is the fact that consuming too much of this can desensitize us, and cause us to become less empathetic to the suffering of others, more fearful of our own environment, and potentially be more likely to use aggression ourselves,” the psychologist warned.

“It can also cause us to be triggered by our own previous adverse experiences, make it harder to manage our own emotional balance, and increase our stress levels, so moderating our consumption is something we should have front of mind, even when we get embroiled in the latest series that is pulling us in."

When my Wife and I were courting, we'd go down to the duckpond in High Park (Toronto), where we'd see many tourists and locals with children, etc. And there was this old European-Looking lady, who had a bag with brad crusts and broken cookies and such, and always a big bunch of ducks around her, feeding like mad. She was probably photographed a million times. Then, late one afternoon, a late-arriving tourist saw her grab and kill a duck, in a well-practiced move, and stuff the body into her crust-bag. It turned out that she'd been feeding her family cooked ducks for years. City let her off, she was too old to punish.

34 Pieces Of Information That Feel Illegal To Know (New Answers) Even though the joke is 'tastes like chicken', humans actually taste like pork according to cannibals e.g. Arthur Shawcross. Which made perfect sense to me when I found out. In med school we dissected cadavers including human muscle and fat, and xenografts (tissue transplants from one animal to another) are generally pig (or cow) e.g. porcine heart valves are still used for heart surgery in humans.

Considering we're usually not that muscular (especially those that fall victim to cannibals), eat a lot of crappy food and are omnivores like pigs, it's not that surprising. Pork from pig-farms tastes like ... well, like nothing much, to be honest. Totally different for boar and still noticeable even by free-range pork

Very true. I found this out in the 80s and took several nutmeg trips over the years. All lasted about 3 days and were pretty visual. Very bad for the liver though as it’s heptoxic so not recommended for regular use. Nutmeg oil is very similar to saffrole which is the base substance from which MDMA is derived

34 Pieces Of Information That Feel Illegal To Know (New Answers) Jury nullification. In the US at least, even if all of the members of a jury are convinced that the defendant is guilty, if they don't like the law, they're allowed to vote not guilty.

Fun fact: Jury nullification is not the RIGHT of the jury: it is not a legally sanctioned function of the jury. So in that sense, it isn't LEGAL. In fact, defense lawyers are not allowed to mention to the jury that they can do it. However, if the jury DOES decide to do a jury nullification, there really isn't anything that anybody can do to them or to reverse the decision: "jury verdicts of acquittal are unassailable even where the verdict is inconsistent with the weight of the evidence and instruction of the law." I've been dying to sit on a jury ever since I was 12 and began to become interested in our legal and political systems, but they really don't seem to like young women on juries 🙄 It's believed, within most legal circles, that we are more easily swayed by emotional pleas and arguments & a defendant's good looks, as if that assumption isn't misogynistic, outdated, and plain stupid. So here's hoping now that I'm 35, I'm considered old enough to participate!

To anyone interested in participating in a mock courtroom as a plaintiff, judge, or juror, my partner and I discovered something called The Internet Court of Lies HQ'd here in Pittsburgh. Apparently you can even get paid in some cases. You can sit on a jury, be a judge, or bring a "suit" to the court and try your case! Just find a lie within the media, gather your evidence online, and present your argument to the court. They will be using the cases to feed to an AI with the hopes that it will more easily be able to spot lies on the internet. It looked really neat to us! Link: https://www.liecourt.com/

This is usually in very specific cases. Like family adopting family to protect them from abusive parents. I knew of a 18 year old girl who adopted her 16 year old cousin because her cousins mom was so extremely abusive that the 16 year old ended up in the hospital and neither of them had any other living family. It was an emergency type of situation.

I'm not sure about legally, but our work systems won't generally accept someone as a child (adopted or otherwise) if they are too close in age to the parent. I'm assuming it's legal, because I've run into that and had to write an it ticket for it before, but we're taking the people at their word here.

In the USA actually there's an 11 year age gap mandatory rule. An 18 year old can adopt a 7 year old, if they can prove they are capable and pass a home study. However, that's just for regular foster system adoptions. Uncontested private adoptions have no real rules, so yes, that would work, but the legal parents of the 17 year old would need to sign off on the adoption, so it's pretty unlikely. Though, in the case of kinship placements or adoption this might work through the state. Like if the parents of 18 and 17 year olds die, and then the 18 legally adopts the younger sibling, though technically it would be easier to just have them placed with their older sibling in kinship care.

This one I strongly agree with. Public records perhaps should not be so public. The fact that you can walk into a city hall, pay $ and walk out with a birth, death or marriage certificate (someone else’s) or a whole slew of other documents is just wrong.

I can go to our county website & see the amount of property tax all my neighbors paid for their houses, and what the assessed value is for them. And most real estate websites will list a sales history so you can see how much the house has been sold for since it was built, except in the case of really old houses.

If you Google any address and go to a realtor website, it will will say the house is off the market. Then you can look at it's history and see when it last sold and for how much. Tax value on it, even when it was listed for sale and how much (including when it changes prices).

Apparently, the house my family and I live in would sell for a handsome amount nowadays and we're very low income so money would be nice but the problem is every other house in the US is so goddamn expensive, too, it would be like we earned nothing

34 Pieces Of Information That Feel Illegal To Know (New Answers) It takes minimal negotiation and paperwork to set up a vending machine. You can probs stock it up for 100 bucks buying bulk and then you'll make like twice that back. Edit since this has a decent amount of upvotes, a bonus fact! The Ford F-150 is the smallest vehicle that can be used as a tax write-off up to iirc a $1.2 million return, but it only applies if you use it for commerce. (I'm no tax expert so I may have gotten something wrong)

ISTR you can write off ANY vehicle as a business expense if you use it for business, but you better be able to prove it. Vehicle write offs are one of the flags the IRS looks for, and it's an easy day at the office for an auditor.

Yes, but the f-150 is notoriously used by the wealthy and large corporations due to the difference between it's purchase costs, value retention (for resale), and the credit it is given by the govt. So many use the f-150 for this reason that it was easier to hide in plain sight. Computers and digital record keeping make all of this less relevant as time goes on.

You make it sound like you only need 100 dollars to set up a vending machine and then double your money. You have to buy 3K or lease the machine, set up a rent agreement for its location, secure a supplier which probably won't want to deal with you because you only have one machine. Need permits from the city and setting up a sales tax account. You also have losses from spoiled product. There is also maintenance and repairs and labor costs to stock and collect the money.

The F-150, in the USA, is too light for the one year write off. This is why business owners usually have an F-250. This is also the reason a lot of business owners own those Box like Mercedes SUVs.

I was quite pleased with how long it took for the locksmith to drill the lock on my front door to get me in when I lost my key. Less impressed with the huge bill - not time dependent as you have a callout fee and part of an hour so he wasn't dragging it out. Plus it was pissing it down. (But he I mean I'd never have got in without him so I'm not saying he overcharged, just it was a painful amount.)

Locks aren't meant to secure your house/bike/whatever. They are meant to secure your house/bike/whatever more than then one next to it. If someone is looking to steal A bicycle, they'll skip yours if it has a lock. If they are looking to steal your model bicycle, they'll find a way to steal it, lock or no.

In Australia, high tech pokie machines have an inbuilt "occurrence metre" that can be turned up or down (usually down). A few hotel employees have been charged for turning the metre up on a particular machine before their breaks and then raking in the winnings. Adds a whole new meaning to the "house always wins" - most hotels here obviously have the metres turned right down. I've also found that rich punters who bet $10 - $15 every spin (as opposed to 1 cent - 5 cents) usually trigger all the prizes and walk away thousands ahead.

We have a small park near us that cut off entry to several small paths due to erosion near a steep drop off that was also undercut by the river. Some due to the damage done to native plants by people that just wouldn't stay on the paths.

34 Pieces Of Information That Feel Illegal To Know (New Answers) That restaurants often do really disgusting things and have disgusting issues. I used to waitress and then later manage a pizza place — mosquitos in the drain, nests of mice, stink bug infestations, flies feasting on food that falls behind the appliances that isn’t cleaned up frequently like it’s supposed to be, mold in the soda machine, expired ingredients still being used, etc. It’s just.. a lot. I was very, very surprised. I knew that most restaurants naturally deal with these things from time to time, but I didn’t expect it to be this often. I also didn’t expect for management to be so nonchalant about going against inspections and regulations. Other restaurants that friends of mine have managed/otherwise worked at have also had similar issues and it’s pretty wild. I’ve never eaten at the restaurant that I worked at since quitting. I wouldn’t trust it.

As someone who works in food service- the f**k? I would never work there! My kitchen is ship-shape, no bugs beyond the occasional ant (we have traps for them now), and we always do a full sweep before leaving for the day... So this seems like a management issue

Also, if you're a seasoned food service employee, you can tell if the inspector from OSHA knows anything about working in a restaurant and what standards it's supposed to have. I used to work at a very popular pizza place and the inspector that came in gave us a passing grade even though the dough press had a ton of bugs living in it, half the food in the fridge wasn't even labeled properly, some was expired, and that restaurant NEVER got deep cleaned. They were only concerned with how long the garlic butter was left out. If the restaurant feels/looks like it might be dirty, it most definitely is. What you see in the dining room won't compare to the kitchen.

True, but I do feel the need to correct you about the inspector - OSHA doesn't do kitchen inspections unless someone gets injured badly & it's reported to them. The inspector you saw was probably a city or county health department inspector who does regular restaurant inspections. I spent 11 years working in the Environment, Health, & Safety department of a large food manufacturer - we had 4 factories & 45 retails stores & I definitely know the difference.

Heres an opposite thought. If most restaurants are like this, and we still eat there and are for the most part fine, what does that tell us? Honestly were a lot more resistant to germs than most people think. We actually NEED them, and not just the good ones. Yes we should practice hygiene, but the "kill 99.9% of germs" standard that keeps getting pushed on us is not a good thing to aspire to. It creates super bugs and weak immune systems. Not to mention most things having germs on the is normal, i would be a hell of a lot more nervous about finding a surface that is sterile. The fact that your couch or whatever is covered in germs under a microscope is not a bad thing. Most germs are harmless to us, but if every surface is covered in harmless germs, theres no room for the really bad ones to proliferate. If its sterile and you get something dangerous on there though, its free realestate for the nasty stuff. And it will get contaminated eventually, this isnt a war you can win.

Fun fact: that "mold" in most soda fountains isn't actually a mold: the acidity in most sodas is too high for mold to be attracted to (although it will still grow if given enough time). Rather it is pink slime mold, which is a type of bacteria

34 Pieces Of Information That Feel Illegal To Know (New Answers) Really (before 1997/98 or so) old microsoft product keys relied on a REALLY simple validity check. They were numbers in the form XXXX-YYYYYYY. The first 4 digits were specific to the software (I think Office 97 was 0402?) and fixed. The last 7 .. the check was just that the sum of all digits has to be able to be divided by 7 without rest. So 1111111 worked all the time. 1234567 worked all the time, 7777777 did.

Forget the actual formula for a second - the two precursor ingredients are nitric acid and toluene. The former you can make with a high voltage source and an aquarium air pump, and the latter can be distilled from gasoline. Or you can just buy them online, but that’s how you end up on a list.

In this case it's an area where, due to the borders, no jury could be assembled. Crimes need to be tried by a jury resident in both the state and district where they were committed. However Yellowstone is entirely covered by the district court of Wyoming even though parts of it are in Idaho. So the only way to be resident in both the district and the state of where the crime was committed would be to live in that area of the park. But it's uninhabited. So technically if you commit a crime in that part of the park there is no way to legally empanel a jury.

Hydroflouric acid is one of the nastier things that you never should get on your skin. It will eat through skin, flesh and bone. And leave wounds that take ages to heal. If you are lucky enough not to die from the exposure - which is an almost certainty if you don't go to a special doctor equipped to handle HF. Oh, and HF smells like week-old, unwashed socks.

Well, let's see, there's erosion, settling and shifting, there's the chance you run into some buried plastic or something, there's the *molten core,* and then even if it did get to the center, gravity is going to stop it from popping up on the other side (at least according to what we know). So I guess the real question is if you can dilute the Earth's core to be mostly acid?

I worked in the chemical industry and we used hydrofluoric acid, you had to wear a full acid suit and visor to even walk through the HF plant. We were also given calcium gel to use if we ever got HF on our bare skin, the gel would react with the HF before it burned through your flesh to the bone. Also HF will be formed if a car battery goes on fire so don't touch burned out car engines without wearing protective gloves.

In the UK, cannibalism has been successfully defended under duress. Which is to say, if you're starving to death and resort to eating a corpse, that's legal. As it should be.

"The Custom of the Sea" is a good book about Britain's last trial for cannibalism at sea. The yacht Mignonette was sunk and the crew eventually resorted to cannibalism to survive, when they were saved they freely admitted the cannibalism and were very surprised to be tried for it as it was considered "the custom of the sea".

Out of date now, but some users might remember the AACS encryption key controversy. Back in the HDDVD days, you couldn't just clone a disc to share a movie with someone else because you needed an encryption key. Someone figured the key out and put it on Digg (which at the time functioned a lot like Reddit), which then got a cease and desist order. That backfired, as users spread the encryption key far and wide. Sharing the key felt like you were participating in a huge crime network, even though there's nothing wrong with copying and pasting a hexadecimal code. BTW, it's 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0. This whole episode was the beginning of the end for DRM.

It is almost as fairly basic as that my countryman in 1913 Ernie Rutherford fired off a light at a bit of sheet gold leaning in the corner and noted the scatter. The measuring of the particles was/is the thing - oh and getting the beam particles charged helps or better still a particle accelerator.. Dead easy I've done similar in my studio/lab when bored with painting my extinction art or playing with my home made bosun collider.

Uranium bombs are easy to make, but hard to get the bomb material. Plutonium bombs are easy to get the material, but hard to make a bomb work properly. The USA didn't bother testing the Uranium bomb because they knew it would work. But it took YEARS of refining to make enough material for one uranium bomb. Once you figure out how to make Plutonium bombs, making a lot of them is "easy", which is why at one point the USA and USSR combined had about 120,000 nuclear weapons. The Soviet power reactors were very good at Plutonium production.

Except it's not an atom it's a neutron. And it actually is a "bullet". In the little man bomb design, they used a primary explosion to fire a uranium slug (basically a uranium gun) at another hunk of uranium which would then result in the secondary nuclear fission reaction.

The dishes sat on the counter with the spoons still in them plus a bit of water to soak, then I picked up a spoon to wash. Im going to just assume you are being serious and not from an area where you can get them, but jolly ranchers are rather decent sized hard candies that melt a little too easily. Kids like to eat them in stages because they do take quite a bit of time as you really cant bite them and will put them down on anything without thinking of how sticky they are. So basically at our school if there’s an intruder we are supposed to lock the classroom doors and hide while the teachers stay on their computers waiting for the all-clear code. No student is supposed to know the code because if so it could put us at risk of more problems if a lockdown was to occur. At school I was waiting in the hallway for the bell to ring when I look through the window leading to the school receptionist office when I see this large book. It had the all-clear code right on the front page... I thought schools was supposed to have reliable security?

Hey, some classic vhs cassettes are worth a ton. This trick will probably make them worth much less, though.

I haven't seen a Betamax player since the 80s. My parents bought one but it was quickly replaced by a VHS player, which I have also not seen for more than a decade.

LOL I still have a VHS because there are many obscure films that never got released on DVD or streaming. Also, I worked in a video store in the 80's and we had both VHS and Beta tapes. The Beta machines were much higher quality but the tapes were only 2 hours so that's the reason VHS took over and made them obsolete.

There was this book that became popular in the 80s, way before the interwebs & personal home computers, called The Anarchists’ Cookbook. It was procedurally banned in a lot of places, but easy to access a copy. It had recipes & instructions for tons of c**p that would be considered illegal. Including at least three things on this list. One being a fertilizer bomb. Seems like all these things should be just as easily found on the internet as it was in a book 40 years ago.

It was the first thing that was posted on the News groups that's when the internet first started up for us lucky students who got first access through our universities. Interestingly in those days everything was unimpeded and there prevailed a sense of liberal activism and helping your fellow man. Incidentally however I noted and always remarked to others of the presence of one group called 'alt.right' in amongst the thousands of the news groups. It was so so way out of place way back then. My hunch was correct it was the harbinger of great evil in the world and for our beloved internet.

Knowing how to add ingredients to each other isn't the same as knowing how to build the entire device. If you think can build the entire thing, the knowledge you have is likely either incomplete, or so small scale that its more a party trick than a bomb.

So that people DO NOT have to look this up: A man held his daughter captive for 24 years. He abused, raped, and sexually assaulted her. She had 7 children during this time, three of whom stayed with her and one of whom died and was disposed of in an incinerator. The other three were brought up by the father and his wife.

By the end her hair had turned grey and she was losing her teeth, and looked decades older than her true age. But she was at least finally rescued along with her surviving children, and the father went straight to jail. Where I'm hoping the other inmates will beat him to death.

Copyrighted works may be copied and/or used for purposes of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research under “Fair Use” language within copyright law and congressionally endorsed guidelines. There is a legal gray area around making copies (e.g., mp3s, cassettes) of media that you own physical copies for your own use, but you cannot legally make copies of any copyrighted material and distribute, even for free, without the consent of the copyright holder. It’s just not usually worth the time and money to pursue legal action against most people who do so.

in Sweden it's allowed to share anything to close friends & family but if one wants to copy a cd to play/have in their own car besides in their home you will have to buy another copy & theres a "copying tariff" that you pay anytime you buy something with a harddrive even tho it is illegal to circumvent copy protection. the money from the tariff is a law and the money goes to a private company that hands out money to artists, so if you buy a digital video camera & film your wedding you are at the same time giving money to music bands.

This is absolutely untrue. You cannot share copyrighted material, even for free. Likewise, in the case of music or movies, there is a limit to how many people can legally view it at one time. It's to allow families and friends to watch the movie, but it legally prevents schools from showing movies without paying a licensing fee.

I looked it up. Apparently you wrap your legs around a pole and then tuck them back in such a way that you get stuck there. You need a buddy to help you do it, and afterwards you're going to have a lot of trouble getting out of it. Here's a video of a couple of guys trying it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZC1Op7eKqg
