People Are Sharing Their Megalophobia Moments, And Here Are 50 Pics That Creeped Them Out (New Pics)
People can be afraid of many things, from darkness to spiders, to you name it. Some of these fears are totally irrational, others come from our childhoods and creep in well into our adult lives. One of such bizarre fears is megalophobia.
Think of large objects like huge cruise ships, animals, skyscrapers, underwater structures, and even statues. Now imagine how’d they look if they were bigger. If the thought of it makes your hair stand on your arm, you may also have some traits of megalophobia.
And this subreddit named r/Megalophobia puts a test on your fear of large objects because it offers one hell of a collection. “A place to post images of all things large, particularly ones that are "triggers" for those with megalophobia,” says their description and 430k devoted members are nodding their heads. Statue Of Poseidon In Spain
I absolutely agree with you on this! It's pretty phenomenal!
Load More Replies...Bro, I desperately want to have a chair at the top of his trident and chill.
It's not on mainland Spain, it's right off Melenara Beach on Las Palmas, one of the Canary Islands.
Load More Replies...Yeah. As it is, this could be a really tiny Poseidon and a tricky cameraman! No banana - no scale!

I love the way he looks like he's coming out of the sea. I wish I could see more of the area around him... Google Earth here I come!
I Don't Want To See This When I Go Hiking
This is amazing and we should all think twice about cutting down the earths trees
Not really. The tree "lives" on in the sculpture. It would otherwise have just been turned into firewood or furniture.

Load More Replies...It's a mesmerising place. A bit more inland there are really big dunes. It's pure with salt pans and ancient trees. It's a stark and beautiful spot. It's a national park. Unfortunately some sort of awful thing is about to take place. There are plans to make a monorail to this, from the entry of the national park. Srsly what bribing took place too allow this!?
Oh no! What a crime, you'd think we'd reached a stage where companies wouldn't want to be associated with environmental damage but apparently not

Underwater Waterfall Near Ile Maurice
My money's on Cthulu and Amber Heard's career. 😉
Load More Replies...Actually, this is an optical illusion. We're looking at the trails of sand and silt deposits on the seabed being washed by ocean currents through an opening between coral reefs. But at first glance, it looks like the ocean is pouring into some massive unseen hole. Source: https://peapix.com/bing/34063

Load More Replies...In mountaineering, you often start climbing at 2-4am so the snow is hard and easier to climb. (Once it warms up, the snow gets slushy and it's like climbing a sand dune.) This ship lasted about 20 minutes on water before sinking 😂 Great story, not so great ship..
I don’t know why in the world you are getting downvoted. The ship might have looked glorious, however, it’s design is now deemed to be faulty. Even the museum website says that the upper works of the hull were too tall and heavy for the small hull that was below the waterline. Thus, even the lightest breeze could cause the ship to heel.

The Sheer Size Of The Pacific
There's a place in the Pacific Ocean called Point Nemo, it's the farthest point of inaccessibility for humans. People in the ISS are closer to it than anyone on Earth no matter where they are. When spaceships with no people need to come down but can't/don't need to make a proper landing, they are sent to crash there since no person has ever crossed those cooridinates. Some speculate an unknown creature lives in the area.
Amazingly, over 100 million people live in the area shown in this image. Western US, Mexico, Central America, Western South America, South Pacific, NZ, AU.
5 million in NZ, the infestation would be Mexico and Sth America

Not exactly. Apartments in Macau are roughly twice as expensive as New York. You can be rich by global standards and still can only afford a shitty place in Macau.

This Sinkhole In Guatemala City
Sinkholes are scary. They can gradually form, or form without warning. One guy a few years ago, suddenly got swallowed by one in his own home. They never recovered his body.
Yeah, and that one still horrifies me! Florida has too many of them for me, and there's one in Pasco County, Fl that's growing. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/florida/os-ne-florida-sinkhole-stop-growing-despite-attempts-to-fix-20210115-qu6ml7z6fnb73ld3jebv7zq6om-story.html

Monster Of A Machine
Big ass thing turns on (let go on a crazy ride of your soon to be short lives!!)
Load More Replies...Big Brutus. In West Mineral, Kansas. Just outside Pittsburg, Kansas. Massive machine. You used to be able to go to the top of the boom via a stairway. They have since closed it off. You had to be a certain height and weight to go all of the way to the top.
Honest curiosity- How do you get inside to operate it?
Load More Replies...After seeing this, I now realise that if the machines ever rise against us, we're SCREWED!!!!
I think our best protection would be to spray salt water on their screws
Load More Replies...I imagine it is used for mining? A cousin of mine used to work for BHP Billiton and she showed me some pictures of the massive machinery, which reminds me of this behemoth.
Load More Replies...FYI: Big Brutus is an electric coal shovel. A three man crew ran Big Brutus with the support of electricians and roller operators. The coal shovel ran 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, from 1963 until 1974 at a speed of .22 miles per hour (less than 1/4 mile per hour) and moved approximately one square mile per year. Big Brutus did not dig coal. The huge bucket removed the overburden (dirt and rocks covering the coal seams) and with one scoop could fill three railroad cars. Huge coal strippers moved in on the coal seams after Big Brutus exposed them.
Vintage Photo Of A Working Horse
That's a mighty Clydesdale, the greatest breed of horses. They live only about 15 years though, shorter than most other breeds.

Clydesdales were used by Budweiser for a long time in their advertising campaigns, to pull sleighs, be in parades, and show up at events. I remember seeing them many times over the years. They were insanely gorgeous animals and larger than life.

Weta Workshop's Realistic Giants For The Dubai Expo
WOW! The intricate details in the texture of his skin!!! What a talented artist!!!!!
Do you think they did any fun pics where she stuck her hand up his nose?
If you can, go to the Te Papa museum in Wellington, simply wonderful work by Weta!
I saw these at the Expo. Incredible detail. Just amazingly lifelike.
I live in uae, and visited expo about 15 times, when I visited the alif Pavillion (the first letter of Arabic symbolizing the starting, also in which these status are located), i was walking front and my family behind and was admiring the art works in the walls behind me, continued walking, still admiring......... And I noticed that no one is seeing the art work. Note I am in front and my family is still farther back. I turned suddenly to see 3 huge men there. Freaked out came running to my parents shouting and everyone around was looking at me, note - there was a huge statue of a man before these 3 status. And these were soo real even the water in the waterline was real like just a huge man sitting there.......... A beautifully embarrassing memory to cherish and laugh.

I was on a pier in San Simeon, CA and there was a whale in the bay. It was a BABY blue whale and it was longer than the pier, just massive. His mom was waiting outside the bay because it was too shallow for her. The people who work at the aquarium on site said it was common for moms to have their babies come into the bay and play. I was just blown away. It was a BABY!
Bigger than the Megalodon though???? I thought the Meg was the biggest sea creature, well.. besides some of the dinosaurs.. right?
No. A blue wale can grow up to five times the size of a Megalodon. Scientists guess that even the biggest Megalodon only reached a mere 58 feet (18 meters) (though some argue it was up to 82 feet [25 meters]). By contrast, the largest blue whales clock in at a little more than 100 feet (30 meters) long, and on average are between 75-90 feet (23-27 meters) in length. The blue wale is the biggest animal ever to have lived on earth, even bigger than land animals like some dinosaurs. Movies like Meg (2018) decive the public by inflating the size of the Megalodon to make it scarier.

The whole world used to be like this. There are accounts from early colonizers in what is now the United States, talking about rivers just silver with fish; you hardly had to work to pull one out. Flocks of birds so massive they darkened the sky. So many buffalo and bison that you couldn't count them. Humans have destroyed so much. And for reference - humanity has wiped out 60% of animal populations since 1970. It was already bad before then; it's getting so much worse.
Fun fact: that school has 1,400 fish in it, which is the same as my high school. And the prom king is a real jerk too...

Why the hell do people want to holiday on these monsters. Docking at small islands and polluting our oceans.
Heck, we did a cruise in the '70s that would look like a yacht with a buffet these days, but it was pure heaven to teenaged me. It actually had two pools, one indoor and one on the outdoor deck, can you begin to imagine the decadence?! And I well recall the 24-hour cinema (I saw "Yellow Submarine" and "The Railway Children" multiple times) with red plush seats and everything. Magical.
To be stuck with people you had no choice of. Day after interminable day. No thanks, not for me.
Tried one once, out of curiosity. Don’t bother unless you consider drinking to be a good time.
We didn't drink and had great time. Celebrity cruise line. Alaska tour. Maybe the destination and cruise line make the difference?
Load More Replies...Ship Breaking. One Of The Most Dangerous Jobs In The World
It’s usually done in poorer countries such as India and parts of Africa, the job has literally no safety requirements or protection from falls or dismemberment. Bosses buy the ships on contract hiring as many labourers as possible to break down the ship as fast as possible to make profit off the scrap. Most common deaths are falls, getting crushed and asphyxiation from using cutting torches in closed spaces. Most workers get paid Pennies per hour. If the worker survive long enough as a ship breaker they often end up with terrible illnesses from toxic exposure to chemicals or materials.
And they still chose to do it--which should tell you exactly how bad the rest of their life is when this job seems like a good idea.

This is not real. It's visual art created by a digital artist, it was posted on Reddit's r/imaginaryleviathans page: https://www.reddit.com/r/ImaginaryLeviathans/comments/nwm2ca/within_the_waves_by_me/
This could just be a wave. If it doesn't break, it'll only lift the boat and let it down again with no harm done. A tsunami can be of any height - it can be only 1 m tall, but still be a tsunami. Because the difference between waves and tsunamis is that the wave travels on the surface, while tsunami travels throughout the whole depth (of the ocean, where it started), so it moves way more water and has way more energy.

World's Largest Log Cabin
I'm sorry, but I think this thread is ridiculous. We do plenty of environmental devastation for no good reason, let's get mad at that! But getting mad at someone for building a house, from sustainable materials, is to me mind-boggling (and hypocritical, unless one doesn't live in a house themselves).
Load More Replies...It was built for the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition of 1905. It used hundred of old growth trees from the area, including 54 hand-selected, 6-foot diameter, unpeeled Douglas Fir tree trunks supporting a two-story central colonnade. It featured exhibits about the logging industry, local flora and fauna and Native American artifacts. After the Expo, it was purchased by the city and left in a state of disrepair for about 50 years. It was finally refurbished in the late 50s/early 60s, but the outdated electrical wiring started a fire and burned it to the ground in 1964.
That it was built in the first place doesn't bother me as even trees that live to a great age die eventually. What does bother me is that it wasn't put to good use afterwards and when it was finally refurbished they didn't do anything about updating the original wiring. Just goes to show how often stupid people get into power.
Load More Replies...Ummm.. poor trees? I mean, this looks to be a century old and probably kept many ppl alive during the Oregon winters and all the wildlife. St. Peters Basilica, People For Scale
This is the same religion that forced galileo to recant, by torture . . .impressive!
Galileo was not tortured. He was sentenced to praying the rosary. For basically writing, "Here's what idiot says." The Church had not initially condemned Galileo's writings, but stated that they could not be published as fact, so long as its objections were unexplained. The Church's objections, while ultimately untrue, were valid: Galileo could not account for the lack of parallax. The ultimate explanation was far more astounding: that the stars were so massive and so far away that the parallax was far too small to detect. And geocentrism is correct for a still more astounding reason: special relativity means that wherever you are is the very center of the universe,... which is remarkably close to what a century earlier had been published as Catholic faith: that the universe is so unimaginable large that any given point is the center of the universe.

Load More Replies...Do people not really know how Mecca works and why there’s a need for tens of thousands of hotel rooms all at once? r/nextfuckinglevel just shows a video taken today with over 500,000 people circling the great mosque. There’s a serious accommodation shortage there. Imagine if every Christian was required to go to Jerusalem at least once in their lives, many preferring to go as often as possible and many wanting to go on high holy days. You can bet there’d be hotels as nearly as big and a dedicated airport just for the pilgrimage.
This is definitely true but given the number of helipads and opulence on display, this seems more like it's being built as yet another playground for the wealthy in the desert.

There are more than 1 billion muslims in the world. Visitors to Mecca need a place to stay.
But I bet the poor won't be allowed to use these rooms. Look at the helipads. This is a rich man's hotel.

I would say this was probably a sail rather than a flag, if it was actually mounted on a ship. Warships of the time ranged somewhere in the vicinity of 150 ft. long with main masts ranging near 200 ft. Whatever this is, it looks to be about 50 ft. on the long edge. I doubt main mast real estate would have been used for a flag when it would provide no prime power and would definitely hinder mobility of the ship.

I think they're pretty, like weird alien flowers. The only problem is that this kind is outdated, now. The long arms can get damaged in high winds, and can cause death to birds. There are better kinds that are helical and more structurally sound. There are even fully enclosed ones small enough for people to put in their backyards. Those use a bunch of small blades on a horizontal ring, which means wind can cause it to spin from any direction without the whole structure needing to turn. Fewer moving parts means more stability in the long run.

As if the alternatives are super eco-friendly or something.
Load More Replies...Solar panels are the ultimate way to go, the newest ones even let you produce energy at night. Wind turbines aren't that nice to look at and the blades are composed of poisonous materials, also may harm birds. Any road that isn't a tunnel can be covered with solar panels which gives you tons of benefits, like no snowy roads, dry roads, cooler raods which lowers the weardown of tyres, being able to charge electric cars and trucks while they're driving. Next you cover rivers in hot areas with solar panels to reduce the evaporation so you keep more waters in the rivers and can use it. Then you cover every roof of the world with solar panels, and build one or two nuclear power plants for the whole world to cover fluctuating powerlevels.
