Like most sane people today I too worry a lot about what we are doing to our planet, and how our consumtion oriented lifestyle affects other lifeforms.

In Sweden, we measure and do statistics for almost everything, even on what we throw in the garbage bin. On average, swedes throw away a total of 466 kilos household waste every year (even though almost all of it is recycled in one way or another). When I saw that number somewhere, I started wondering how that amout of shit would look like piled up in a big heap. So, beginning on May 14th 2019, I started documenting everything, and I mean everything, me and my two kids Nova and Levi rid ourselves of. At first, my plan was to save all the garbage at the local waste management plant, but that proved to be not allowed. And quite frankly, it would probably have been quite disgusting after a while. So instead, I weighed and put down everything in an excel sheet, and then photographed it from above. Then garbage bag by garbage bag, I puzzled it all toghether in a photoshop collage. One year later, we had thrown away 127,5 kg paper, 49,5 kg plastic, 106 kg food waste, 16,5 kg metal, 117 kg assorted, non separatable waste for the bin, 52,5 kg glass and 23 kg electronic waste/batteries. A total of 477 kilos!
