Dolls might be seen as toys, but in the right hands they can become enchanting art. Russian jeweler artist and designer Marina Bychkova, who lives in Canada, creates stunning one-of-a-kind ball-jointed porcelain dolls for adults.
Marina says that her calling for creating dolls became evident back when she was only 6. She couldn't stand how boring and mediocre the mass-produced dolls were, so Marine started making toys that suited her own ideas of beauty. Eventually, the training at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design influenced her to commit to the doll making as a career. According to the creator, she named the brand after Paul Gallico’s short story called “Enchanted Doll”. Fiction reflects in most of her works, as Marina recreates such well-known characters as Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood.
The dolls are meticulously made using high quality materials, such as porcelain, gold, silver, and even Swarovski crystals. They help to achieve uniqueness and sophisticated beauty. Depicting sensuality and delicacy, these dolls will enchant anyone who lays eyes on them.

I wish they posted the names of the dolls! It is a wonderful body of work!
May be creepy but I think it says a lot about what we are going through as a society.
Reminds me of Cinderella, when they tore apart her dress
Makes me wonder what her story is. These are all exquisitely beautiful.
ahh! such attention to detail...she could be a goddess or a Saint
I was thinking along the same lines... Why are they all so sad?
Load More Replies...I think these dolls are very meaningful. Dolls are seen as happy and perfect but these dolls are more realistic because they are not.
sometimes i cry for happy...so she doesn't look sorrowful to me
I feel as though these dolls portray a more honest approach of what it's like to be a princess or heiress in their era. They would most likely be trapped in a political/advantageous marriage against their will and made to keep a poised, perfect image at all times in a country foreign to them, married to someone they just met, probably against their will at that. I'd assume that they would feel lonely, trapped and very sad. These dolls are a lot more accurate and very honest. I like them :)
This doll is crying because her headdress must be very heavy.. She cannot take it anymore. Lol.
This one's my favourite because it looks like she's a breast cancer survivor.
This is my favourite, although I love them all! I love the idea of this being someone at a Venetian masked ball!
I don't know why, but this makes me think of Gerda in the story 'The Ice Queen'!
Is the headdress a style of somewhere in Southeast Asia? possibly Cambodian or indonesian?
Balinese and Sumatranese have similar headdress with this..
Load More Replies...and there's still 27 more pics! wow amazing how someone will put so much work into this. is it possible to buy one?
Yes, they sell for tens of thousands of pounds. I love them.
Load More Replies...I find them abused and unpleasant as "soft" (no such thing exists, I hope) child porn. Sad nubile models are currently fashionable, but I find selling such helplessness very negative. Child brides with snotty noses and teary eyes are for sickos, and something to be fought against, not admired. I see no protest here, but a great love for the breaking of someones will and independence, maybe a therapist should be consulted. Waste of good craftsmanship.
I think even art that captures unpleasant things and elicits unpleasant feelings is still art. Maybe even better because it's hard to do.
Load More Replies...Very beautiful and disturbing--so many look like pedophile victims
That is the type of mask the doctors wore during the plague. I believe this must be a representation of her imminent death, and that of her unborn childs.
It is not a plague mask at all. While they resemble a bird's head, they are mearly pointy masks, and they cover the face and don't leave places open (what would be the point in wearing a mask full of holes to prevent the plague?). This is plainly a bird's skull, that yes, can have second meanings, but not a doctor's mask. Just pointing this up.
Load More Replies...Very reminiscent of the Stephen Lawrence book "Hood", a deep scholarly version of the Robin Hood story.
maybe she is Thumbelina (and married the bird instead of the faerie)
Most ball-jointed dolls are anatomically correct. You should see the men!
Load More Replies...They all look like trapped fairies who are now paraded around for human enjoyment. Sad and kinda of disturbing. Like, they were told to go with this human to save their land and after the years of display and abuse it accuse to them it was trick and everything they loved is now destroyed and probably a parking lot.
I think they are beautiful.Even with their sad faces the detail of the sadness draws you in. I do not find them to be creepy at all. I notice a lot are dressed in Geisha garb that is a reason to be sad,its very demanding.Im very glad someone has the courage to make art like this. I adore them.
Well, the one with those white silk hair and silver beaded cloak ie. the 4th picture, was Daphne, who people thought was elsa or snow queen
Load More Replies...They even have the feet binding. It is something women did in China for beauty.
It's not possible to recreate human range of motion in a solid medium like porcelain or resin. If collectors want articulation, they know they will have to sacrifice some aesthetics. To be able to bend the knee like a human a doll must have double ball joints. The people who love these dolls don't even SEE those knee joints, only her graceful pose.
Load More Replies...Because that is the style of this artist. Many of the girls look sad. With all of the things that happen to women and girls its easy to see why she is sad.
Load More Replies...This is me with constant pain, pillows everywhere to cocoon me so I can sleep a bit.
Load More Replies...Makes me think of Cinderella for some reason! Maybe the mask, for the masked ball..
Or maybe the fact that she has only one shoe on
Load More Replies...Well, she 'is' Cinderella, her name is Cinderella 2, as the artist Marina Bychkova made Cinderella once before!
OMG! She's got Lotus Feet!!! That's amazing! Wow, talk about awesome detail!
Ouch. Lotus feet. I wonder if the detail remains when the show is taken off.
Load More Replies...Although I find them creepy as hell, they are all stunningly beautiful too. The skill is unbelievable. The outfits and accessories are so beautiful, and I like the fact the artist has included nipples (and genitalia? It's too small for me to see properly), unlike regular dolls.
Most ball jointed dolls do include genitalia. These are exquisite in design. They all look so sad, yet they are beautiful. They do belong in a museum.
Load More Replies...shes forced to be an image everyone see's but all she see's are her flaws and shes forced into a business that she isnt wanting
Or the story of the Princess and the Pea from the Grimm Brothers. :)
Load More Replies...These dolls are incredibly gorgeous and belong in a museum. What a gifted and talented multi-medium artist this is. I enjoyed every picture.
They are supposed to look sad, that's the beauty of them. And how this artist chooses to express herself is not something to be ridiculed, because these dolls, although they may not be for everybody, are gorgeous.
People, they were meant to be sad to express a melancholic feeling, and that's probably why it says Realistic dolls for ADULTS.
They are all stunning! Their haunted eyes give them a fragility that adds depth to their beauty. Makes me want to discover their stories...
These are exquisite! I can't understand why anyone would call them "creepy." These are works of art, not just dolls.
