I started making these fairy portraits of friends and family as gifts because the recipients would be so excited, and said the drawings made them feel “special and empowered”. I like to try to capture the person’s inner self and what makes them unique. As I started to develop more complications from my autoimmune disease, I found that making these portraits took my mind off the pain and anxiety of my health issues.
I especially like drawing people with chronic illnesses, mental illnesses, and disabilities. I know how isolating and depressing situations like that can be, so I want to encourage them and hopefully give them the strength to carry on.
