A few weeks ago I shot all of these photos during this magical morning; a morning I will never forget. On this particular morning thick fog covered the area of the famous windmill village Zaanse Schans (try to pronounce that :) ) in the Netherlands. I was lucky to be there around 5 AM in the morning and take these photos. It was like I was walking in a fairytale.
Zaanse Schans is a popular tourist destination. During the day it's packed with thousands of tourists and it's unpleasant to walk. However, when the tourist shops and restaurants close, the buses leave and the area gets completely empty. Photographing late light or every early morning shows the true beauty of this place.

Albert, these are the most beautiful photos I have seen in a long time. I have downloaded them all and will use them as screensavers. I used to be based in the Netherlands and it is a favourite place. These pictures urge me to get back there soon. Thank you! :)

When I was working in Amsterdam I used to drive via N445 instead of A4 ,early in the morning, just to get the glimpse of the fog and the landscaping covered in this mystical light...it was my favorite time in the day . Was beautiful! Thank you for reminding me that, with your beautiful, magical pics.

"Is this real life? No it isn't. Real life in The Netherlands is a decaying healt system, people dying without even being noticed, mentally sick people running loose because there's no money to give them adequate care, beneficial tax rates for rich people but poor people have to rely on food banks to get by. Police losing the battle against criminals because of lack of funding and manpower. That's The Netherlands. Trump style. But all's well according to our government.

As in any country, there's good things and bad things. The Netherlands is not that bad if you compare it to other countries in the world. You could of course just move out?

Those are stunning! Fog is always a great environment to make wonderful pictures, I used to go hiking early morning, 4 AM, just to see the fog in the river valley around 6 when I was above it on the hilltops. Magcal time, thanks for bringing it back to me through those!

Thank you for reminding me the beauty that exists in our country. You get used to the sights of your own country, and sometimes forget the beauty in it, because it is "normal". I played tourist in our country once in de Zaanse Schans, these pictures are so different from the view during the day. I know our country is beautiful. Beauty is everywhere. And you captured this place at a magical time. I wish I still lived near Zaandam, to catch this beauty myself in those early hours. But I live in the South-East right now. How would Giethoorn look at this time of the day? Is what I am wondering right now :-). Maybe an idea to visit and take pictures at the early hours? Though it might be difficult taking pictures from a boat. And I am not sure if you would need your own boat to photograph at that time of the day? Thank you for these beautiful photo’s!
