No, this does not mean a chess that is played with only one piece.
My brother and sister works at a fabrication workshop. A few weeks before my birthday, they said they are working on something. I paid no attention because they ALWAYS be working on something. They were having the time of their lives at Fabbritory. The only clue I had was it is for me and I would love it.
Then a few weeks after my birthday, they surprised me with this magnificent custom-made chessboard. Designed, fabricated, laser-printed, laser-cut and super-glued from my all time favorite manga/anime (and everyone’s too. If you are not a fan yet, you totally should be) ONE PIECE.
They transformed the characters in One Piece into chess pieces in the coolest form, their individual Jolly Rogers. Set on the Grand Line itself. (see if you can spot the Reverse Mountain).
*apparently before they presented the board to the intended owner, they had their very own photo shoot with it.

The pieces consist of Jolly Rogers of the protagonists and antagonists. The white pieces includes The Mugiwaras (from top left to right) Franky, Robin, Zoro, Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Usopp and Brooke. Chopper is the head pawn with his KungFu Dugong pawns.
The black pieces are (from bottom left to right) Buggy, Baroque Works, Enel, Kaidou, Big Mom, Doflamingo, Blackbeard and Arlong. And the pawns, (naturally) the World Government and Marines.

They also laser-printed my initials and birth date under the base of the board.
In retrospect, I should have known it had something to do with chess. My sister has this idea that the ideal gift for me, are chess sets.
I’m not complaining, really. She has given me quite some interesting chess set over the years.
But this one has to be among the best ones.
