Diamonds are now more than a girl’s best friend, as cremonials are becoming increasingly popular. Cremonial is the name given to the process of turning one’s ashes into a diamond. In fact, multiple diamonds: in some cases, the companies which create the diamonds manage to make 8-9 diamonds from one persons’ ashes.

There are several companies in each country which turn the remains of a loved one into diamonds, using a process similar to the one of creating artificial diamonds. The ashes (about 100g) are heated until they turn into carbon, then they are pressed for a week or more. This is a replica of how natural diamonds are being created in the ground. Once the diamond is ready, it is being cut and placed in case, then delivered to the relatives.

The diamonds can be kept in their cases or turned into jewelries, so the family can keep a piece of their loved one close by at all times.

Each diamond comes out unique, as the chemical mix in each person’s ash is different. The most common colors are blue, due to boron, and yellow, due to nitrogen in one’s ashes. There are also diamonds which come out white, almost black or in variations of colors. The clarity of the diamond depends. In all cases, when the diamond comes out in a similar color with the dead person’s eyes, the relatives swear it’s an exact match when it comes to the shade.
