When she said 'you'll understand with age', she didn't mean you'll want a parrot when you're old too. She meant you'll understand how with age, you'll reminisce about time and loved ones lost, the memories of your youth, and how this is probably the last chance you'll ever have to do what you've always dreamt of doing.
i spent the whole story hoping that it turns out your mum is a pirate and that's why she needed a parrot.
Short version: A woman wanted parrots. Her husband didn't. She got parrots anyway. The End.
Oh yeah, it's so much funnier this way ! ...
Load More Replies...Growing up, my parents sure as hell didn't have to consult us before bringing a pet home. Who's running that house?
She didn't consult the kids; she secured a partner in crime.
Load More Replies...Your Mum sounds amazing! Just like my Mum, who has decided to get a Maine C**n cat in addition to our two dogs and is planning on getting two birds in the near future. She is 74, so arguing with her is futile! She uses "I want to enjoy what time I have left"...who can argue with that?!
Does she have a plan for where these pets will be re-homed after she's gone or unable to care for them? That would be my only worry, if my mom decided she wanted a bunch of animals. Plus some birds can live a LONG time!
Load More Replies...They're love birds, need classic love story couple names, like Romeo and Juliet, Layla and Majnun, Jahan and Mumtaz, or because they now have such a bad reputation, Bonnie and Clyde.
Load More Replies...I was waiting the whole story for a plot twist or some kind of point. Nothing came.
By helping her mom score a couple of parrots she has enabled her. It's downhill now, chickens, geese, peacocks, etc. When she finally sinks to guinea hens it's pretty much hopeless.
Your use of gifs is on point. Well done. Love a happy ending to a pet story
This was such an entertaining post! Allergic or not, how can you say no to those cute little faces? P.s I think your parents are just as adorable!!
What a great story! Not only are the parrots love birds, but apparently so are the husband and wife! Aww!
I enjoyed the entire story, could picture this crazy Mum and daughter, loved the writer's initiative. Thank you.
They ARE really cute. I'd love birds, but I don't think I could stand to cage something so free. Not judging.....just saying for ME that would make it more depressing than fun.
I want a photo of her whole family, cat included with the love birds!
Why was getting parrots THAT much of an issue?._. Am confused. It seems the mother like really really really wanted them and it just kind of seems mean and sad she wasn't allowed to get them. I mean perhaps I'm missing something, I only have a budgie but he's my most problem-less pet - he can perfectly stay within one room(allergies solved, no? No fur around the house or anything), is easy to take care of, is cheap to take care of(compared to cat/dog at least)...am really glad that she got them in the end, hope it works out well :)
Bonnie and Clyde. After all, your mother just got away with the crime of the century.....
I'm going to sound harsh, but I was really displeased with the way she talked about her mother, like she was some kind of lunatic. She is a freaking adult that carried you for 9 months, she does exactly what she wants !
I can completely understand how Mom feels. I grew up around animals and always had pets, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.. Cats were a constant in my life. and I had several dogs over the years too. When I got married my husband didn't want any pets and I told him even before we got married I will always have at least 1 pet. Shortly after we got married my cat had kittens and I kept one to take with me when we moved. Had that cat for 17 years he passed in 2016 my husband was arguing against us having another cat our son and I wanted another cat. First we agreed to wait 1 year (period of mourning of our previous cat) Then because I lost my job due to budgetary issues I agreed to wait until I got a new job... well I start my job on Monday... In August after I get my first paycheck my son and I are going Kitten hunting :D
Uh..was there a POINT to me scrolling for 5 minutes to get to an ending that was blah? I thought there would be some kind of twist, or humor..well ok..no harm done..loving family,..short version..mum wanted birds, dad didn't, mom drags daughter to GET birds, they arrive home, dad sees birds, glad they aren't chickens, everything is ok..birds with no names get to stay...the end..LOL
name them Des and Troy, Because they are going to DesTroy your peace.... lol
I bought a love bird once. It chased the cats under the bed and wouldn't let me come out from under the covers..."love", my a*s...
Cool mom. I wanted chickens toooo, free eggs ! But parents say no bcuz all these factors that I think eggs can make up for, hmph!
Am I the only one just shock of people getting animals like little kids wanting ice cream -_-
Fred and Ethel or Rick and Lucy, PITA (pain in the a*s ) Pite (Pain the the rear,) lol
I don't know why I find this to be so absolutely hysterical, but I do! This is awesome!
BEST. STORY. EVER!! I just saw this whole thing play out in my mind like some comedy sitcom. In fact... I think someone SHOULD make it into a sitcom!!!
Most of the time when people say they are allergic to an animal, it's because they just don't want it. My stepfather claimed for years he was allergic to cats, even though his parents and siblings all said that was a lie and he'd never been diagnosed with an allergy and that he just hated cats and he never showed any allergy symptoms when I was finally allowed to get a cat.
Probably a bit late now but you could call them Prisoner 1 and Prisoner 2. Birds are meant to be free to fly, not kept in a cage for your selfish desires.
A decade is a long time to prepare your partner for the inevitability of the animal, I think Mom is awesome!
This should be featured in Mother's Day stories! Such a badass mom yet adorable.
This is exactly what happened when I woke up on my 45th birthday and said "I need a Birthday cat" ...my kids were thrilled, hubby not so much. We ended up at a cat adoption shelter and wound up with two, yes, two, adorable female kittens who had been put in the same cage a few days before and I couldn't bear to split them up. Tigger & Hobbes (she had no tail, just a little poof!) were destined to be ours.
The gifs she chose were perfect! It really makes the story come alive!
This is a lovely story, but I do hope they intend to get a bigger cage. Unless they allow the birds out most or all of the day, which isn't easy with a cat, that cage is too small. Lovebirds are nice, sweet birds. I have Cockatiels which are lovely little menaces, Lovebirds are much... safer. xD
i have also used this kind of tactic when i've been told NO on getting animals...once, i convinced my 3-4 yr old child that he wanted/needed a doberman puppy (daddy might've told me no, but he couldn't tell the baby that! had a raccoon that i was told i couldn't get--even borrowed the hubby's truck to get it AND the huge outdoor cage it came with...lol, those were the days! and yes, sometimes you reach a stage in your life where you NEED a certain animal! Noor's mom & I are kindred spirits
I kept waiting for the dad to talk about how delicious they are on the grill
Well I don't know why she need anyone permission to get parrots. It's her house... I mean my mom.qould kick us all out and move the parrots in.
I'm with the dad. It's likely he knew the mom's home situation when he married her and did not want their home to end up like her parents. It sounds like it might have been a mess... because, excepting farms, the homes of most people who have a large number of animals are typically a mess. I've noticed a tendency among everyone I know for a couple's home to take on aspects of the home that one of them grew up in. My house has the same sort of behind the scenes disarray that my in-laws house did, which was a small (less than 1000sf) house for a family of six. Common rooms (living, dining, kitchen, bath) that visitors could see are kept nice and neat, but spare bedrooms became catchalls where things piled up. Nothing can be thrown away for fear it might be needed some day or is a gift for some future occasion. If I were a neat freak, it would drive me insane. As it is... just moderately crazy. Homes of SO's siblings are even worse. Showcases for disorganized lives.
That's not always the case. My best friend and her husband have two cats, a dog, a bearded dragon, two snakes, a bunny and a whole lot of fish. They had a parrot and another dog too but they died. Their house is immaculate. My BFF is a bit obsessive about her house.
Load More Replies...Because they died a tragic death in their teens?
Load More Replies...That could be my boyfriend and me. We're having discussions about pets (I'd like to have a dog, (maybe cat too) a chinchilla and or a parrot) but he doesnt let me :( we had 3 rats but 2 died last year and he's alwayd telling me he had allergies etc. I think one day I'll just come home with new baby pets.. XD
Technically love birds are parrots, parrots come lots of sizes and shapes
