Thanks Teal Cat. All Etch-A-Sketches have the power to curve. Turn one k**b at a consistent speed, and with the other k**b start turning it fast, then gradually slow down. The key is turning them at a consistent rate.

Thanks Pam. As long as you lay it out so that everything is connected, what I do, is just retrace over lines so I don't get trapped in a corner. The hard part is following the original line without widening it. Whenever I do a portrait in pencil or Etch-A-Sketch, although unconventional, I start at an eye. I use the eyes as the anchor point for everything, and look to see how they relate to the other features. It's a kind of mathy approach. You can see time-lapse videos of my etches on Instagram, and examples of the other mediums I use, like bleach, digital and pyrography on my webside . Both are linked at the top.

Plotting out regular art means you start with an outline, then usually go to specific components of the work that aren't necessarily connected, doing art on an etch a sketch means you start at one end and then have to somehow plot the entire thing in your mind so you don't get trapped in a corner or forget a section you can't go back to. I used to try doing this when I was a teen and failed miserably, so I have a very tiny understanding of what talent it takes to create these, and I'm absolutely blown away at not only the skill but the planning it must take. Very cool!

I wasn't trying to glorify socialism with this image, I just wanted to find a super iconic portrait that would work with the style of shading I had in mind. I understand that a lot of people will identify Che with Communism, and rightly so; but if you have a huge problem with Communism, you should start by checking the "made in" tag on your computer, smart-phone, clothes, shoes, appliances, etc... and ask yourself why you're supporting it through personal funding.

Couple Saw This DIY Bookshelf Design Online, But They Had No Idea It Would Turn Out So Good

I strongly disagree. It is NOT AT ALL about "creativity". These people copied a design. How is a copied design "uniquely different"? If I was in an exam, and I copied from a neighboring classmate, would that be "creative"? Would it be "uniquely different"? No. It would be the EXACT OPPOSITE of those things.

I think a "LOT" of work would be coming up with an original concept, and fabricating it yourself, instead of paying someone to do that for you. I just don't think using 6th grade math, or the ability to use a power drill is anything special, let alone a "huge process". I think the project looks cool though.

The underlying geometry behind this unoriginal design is twofold: 1. each side of a dodecagon occupies 30 degrees of a circle. 2. the Pythagorian theorem - the side of a square[A](squared)x2 = the diagonal cross section[D](squared). So, A2 = D2/2 ...this is math I had to have a strong grasp of before I was allowed to pass into 7th grade. Sally, if your assertion is that 6th grade math is difficult, then so be it. I disagree.

Easy? YES. I think coming up with an original concept is hard, copying others is easy. I think fabricating shelves is hard, paying someone to do it is easy. And regarding the assembly process, the math involved to plan the copied design is something people have been doing with sticks and string for thousands of years. All that's left is to be able to operate a power drill, which is easy. Tell me the hard part.

So, these people copied an idea, then paid someone to build it, then were able to use 8th grade math and and a power drill to assemble it, and we should be proud of them? We're setting the bar lower and lower.
