It’s amazing people survived the past, some medical devices were nuts, or just very basic compared to today. Sometimes it was charming and so personal, where a doctor actually sat bedside with a patient. Very rare these days.

Here are 14 images, some charming, from children nurses that were trained to actually look at some patients back in the day, using therapy clowns, totally open exposed xray bulbs where everyone was dosed, and operation theater, where everyone could get a good seat and watch. Back in those days the only reason a surgeon wore a gown, was to protect their own clothes, not to protect you.

My name is Mike Savad, I’ve been a photographer for a number of years, I also colorize old photos. I created my own style, making old photos into a work of art. My style is designed to make an old photo look like a painting, redirecting light, adding skies where they were bleached out. I add dirt, corrosion etc to make it more real. I like to think that I went back in time and shot it with my own camera, as my own photography has a similar look.

The past was colorful, people may disagree but it was. My work won’t look like a traditional tinted photo, which often looks washed out and dull. I like bright colors, lots of detail (I will add rings to fingers or eye color if I can see their pupils in the image). If you visit my site, you can see the close details by hovering over the image and clicking the green box, if your on a phone, flip it sideways, the site works better if you do.
